Like the idea of the subscription and less chemicals in the product. Liked the packaging and kit you get. Was never happy with the result though. I have dark brown hair and a lot of grey. I was recommended to use a pre developer and did every time. Result looked great for about 2 days then the brassiness came through on the greys and looked orange. I did discuss options and changed to a different shade but had the same results. Supermarket packets give me a better result than this did so I am going back to that and have cancelled my subscription.

Hi Anita, Thanks for getting in touch. I'm sorry you weren't happy with your result. We now have 27vol developer available which is specially formulated for stubborn greys. It will also reduce brassiness. I would be happy to ship you a free Colour Kit with 27 vol developer for you to try. I would also suggest you try Toscano 4.1 Dark Ash Brown which is a cool colour which will eliminate any warm tones. I am very confident that you'll be happy with the result. Please contact Support at support@theshade.com.au for your free Colour Kit. If you need help with your colour, please don't hesitate to contact one of our colourists here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps!
The colour is good, i got the light ash brown in the semi and my hair is a dark brown and it gives it a nice shine and doesn't look brassy. However, my hair does get very dry afterwards which is a little disappointing.

The colour is a lighter than I was expecting and hasn’t really covered the greys that well. I’m trying to decide if I stick with it and gradually lighten my hair.

Hi Tanya, We can certainly help you with a darker colour, and to ensure your greys are 100% covered. Please contact one of our colourist here who can offer you personalised advice, and help you achieve your colour goals: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! Marco The Shade
The colour is nice, hasn’t quite covered all my greys even though I selected stubborn greys and my hair is feeling a little dry but apart from that I’m very happy with the colour.

Hi Brook, If you wanted to boost grey coverage, then I would suggest that you add some heat to your roots for 2-5 minutes with your hairdryer while the colour is processing, which will help soften and lift the cuticle on your greys, which helps the colour enter to be deposited within the hair too. Pop a shower cap on your head after you have added some heat during the colouring process too, as this will help retain heat and soften and lift the cuticles of the hair which will then allow the colour pigments to enter to be permanently deposited within the hair. The above approach has been effective on even the most stubborn greys, and I am confident that it will work for you as well. Marco
Hi, I didn’t have a great experience with the online colourist. I said on my initial email the colour I wanted and she told me I needed to go 2 shades lighter. I managed to convince her to meet in the middle and go up one shade, but once it was used, it was almost the exact colour of my hair and wasn’t the darker look that I was after.
Helpful Report
Hi Betsy, I have just review the notes of your consultation and the colourist did not "try to convince you to go two levels lighter". She didn't suggest you go lighter at all. She advised a colour which was one level darker than your existing colour, which was exactly what you requested in your colourist consultation. The colour you wanted to try was 2-3 levels darker than your original colour level. We always recommend adding depth in stages, because it is always easier to add colour than to take it away. The colour you suggested would have taken you from a bronde light brown-dark blonde to a dark brown, and as you had indicated you wanted to add one level of depth only, that was not an appropriate choice. The colour our colourist recommended would ensure that you added just one level of depth (as requested), not 2-3 levels of depth (and you may then have been unhappy with such as dark result!). Best Regards, Marco The Shade
I'm really happy with the product. It's easy to use and looks really natural. I do wish there was an option for a longer time span subscription as I don't need to do a repeat every 8 weeks and I now have an over supply of product.

Definitely not light brown! I don’t mind the colour but it’s dark brown for sure (darker than my natural colour which I would say is a medium brown and feels like it has a reddish base not a neutral one). Was hoping for this to be my go to from now on but I’m thinking I’ll be back to the hairdresser unfortunately. Really wanted to love this.

Hi Kate, Sorry you weren't happy with your colour result. The colour will soften a little bit and it always a bit brighter or darker than its accurate colour level immediately after colouring. You may find that you are happier with your colour in a day or two. We are happy to advise on how you can soften the colour, and also to suggest a colour which you may be happier with, which could be a dark blonde base, not a brown base. The level 6 is an accurate light brown colour, and it may be that you preferred to see a colour which is two levels lighter such as a dark blonde colour. We can help you slightly soften your existing colour without a lightening process, or to achieve a colour which is lighter with a lightening process if you prefer as well, and we are happy to help 7 days a week. Our colourists can be contacted here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ Thank you! Marco The Shade
I like the feeling of the product It is not drying and harsh . The Color I chose was Paolo, I feel it is a bit too dark and would like to Have a warmer more auburn tone. Can you advise?

I used the golden brown, but the brown was a very dark shade, much darker than i expected. Also my scalp was itchy for a few days.

Hi Deanne, So sorry to hear that you weren't happy with your colour result. You were in touch with our colourists before your most recent colour purchase, but unfortunately you selected a colour which our colourist did not recommend for you, and the colour you used does have a darker finish than the colour recommended for you. If you have any allergies or sensitivities to our product then it is best to review with your GP. We have eliminated the key known allergens from our products, but you could have a reaction to any ingredient in the colour or developer and if you do have a reaction then you should not use it. Thank you very much and wish you the best. Marco The Shade
Ash colours turned my hair red, tried 2 different ash shades but both had very red/orange tones. Using another brand of light ash brown and have no red tones.
Helpful Report
Hi Sarah, There are no red tones at all in our Ash colours. We did explain to you that reddish/brassy colour pigments are naturally present in the hair and they are the last pigments which are lifted out of the hair during lightening, because they have the largest colour molecules. The best approach to correct visible brassiness is to add some depth and cool tones. Adding a bit of depth means that the colour does not have to lift so much and that it is more likely to achieve an accurate, 'true' colour result. Cool tones will counter-act and neutralise unwanted warmth. Some people's hair also naturally throws more warmth than others. We recommended a medium cool brown colour for you, as you did report some brassy tones initially, but unfortunately you didn't try that colour. Different brands classify their colours differently, so you could be using a colour which is described as light brown now but which is closer to our medium brown - unless they are categorised using the exact same classification system, then they can't be compared because they don't necessarily have the same base colour level. I hope that helps. Camilla Colourist - The Shade
Good packaging and instructions. Nice to receive a full application kit. Easy to apply and use products. Things I wasn't so happy with... The Cape provided was nothing like the one in the video...really wish companies would show what customer will receive (same with conditioner and shampoo...initially thought I would receive a whole bottle...quickly assumed that would not be the case). Dye seemed to stain my hairline quite a lot and more than some box supermarket products...it fades but not a good look if you dye hair the day of an event etc. Turned my greys copper! Never had this happen before. I used an extra developer as recommended. Did good coverage just weren't dark brown. My head did burn/tingle a bit from the product which I was surprised at as it was free from the bad chemicals. Overall it was ok. I am considering whether I will use again. Feel like supermarket box products are better or similar and I can get them a lot cheaper on sale. Just have to consider the chemical free aspect but then more products are coming out like this now. Not sure what I expected but was nothing amazing.

Dear Anita, Thanks for your feedback. Full-sized bottles of conditioner are available, but we provide a sachet only of the Colour Protection Shampoo and Conditioner in our Colour Kits. We don't provide a full bottle of shampoo and conditioner with each colour kit! In regard to staining, we provide a sachet of Barrier Oil to apply to your hairline to prevent staining. We are wondering if you applied the Barrier Oil? We also provide a Colour Remover Wipe to clean up any stains or mess after the application. Going by the colour consultation you completed. you selected a neutral colour, which is is lighter than your natural colour. Lightening always reveals natural warmth, so the warmth you saw in your colour result is natural warmth, revealed during lightening. There is no copper tones in the colour you selected, but there are also no cool tones. Cool tones are essential when lightening as lightening always reveals natural warmth, and cool tones will balance and mute the warmth. So we would have recommended a cool based colour which would have given you a neutral colour result. We also recommend that you do a sensitivity test before you use the product, to ensure that the product is suitable for you to use without any reactions. If you had done the sensitivity test then you could have avoided using the product because it appears that you may have a reaction to an ingredient in our colour formulas. While we have eliminated the major irritants commonly found in colour products, you could have a reaction to any ingredient, even an ingredient which is not an major allergen, which is why it is critical to do a sensitivity test before using the colour. Best Regards, Camilla from The Shade
Didn’t help with my grey hairs!

Hi Karen, Sorry you didn't achieve the colour coverage you were after. We are adding a 27 vol developer in a few days time which is specifically developed to cover colour resistant greys. This new 27 vol developer is very effective in achieving grey coverage over stubborn greys. Unfortunately it can be harder to cover greys, as their outer cuticle layer is more tightly packed, and greys can have a coarser texture which makes it more difficult for the colour to be absorbed. We will be advising everyone shortly when the 27 vol will be available. Camilla
It’s a great concept but didn’t work out for me. I thought the information, products, postage speed etc was really good but I was left with awful orange hair. I followed the instructions and times. Maybe my hair just has too much warm pigment.

Hi Kate, We received your emails dated June 30th and July 2nd and replied to them both. I will send you another email now. Sorry for your inconvenience. Best Regards, The Shade team
Love the concept of buying online, thought the colour selection process was great, packaging and time to receive via post also great. Got my husband to help applying product and we followed instructions with no concerns. The colour I selected was 'Roma' and of the understanding this would achieve a golden brown colour. The outcome was alot darker and more red in colour, disappointing as wanted to stay close my nature colour. Not sure how I feel about the overall experience. I would definitely talk about it with friends (have to because of the big difference in colour of my hair) but would say be weary of colour selection outcomes.
Helpful Report
Hi! We're happy to hear that you liked the overall product and would love to help you find your perfect shade! Roma has prominent warm secondary tones. All warm colours do include red tones in the base of the secondary tone, which is why our colourists ask not only what tones do you want to see in your hair, but also what tones you don't want to see in your hair. Also, warm tones absorb light and they do look darker than their technical colour level (cool tones reflect light and look lighter than their technical colour level). So a colour level which is the same as your natural colour, but which has warm tones, will look darker. The colour advice directly from our colourists (available 7 days a week) provides more personalised colour advice, which takes further factors into consideration. We would be very happy to recommend a colour which would work well for you, and provide advice on how to gently soften your colour, so please get in touch with our colourists directly here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ Thank you very much!
Hi, I was very happy with the products supplied, the only feedback I have is one of the reasons I color my hair is a couple of greys at the very front, I colored my hair 2 weeks ago and the color has already come away from the trouble greys, even with the grey softener product
Helpful Report
Hi Kirsty! Thanks for getting in touch and we are glad to hear you are generally happy with the product. Some greys can be particularly colour resistant, unfortunately, and we're sorry to hear that the colour coverage didn't last over some of your greys. It would be helpful if you applied heat with your hairdryer just in the areas where you have the most stubborn greys the next time you colour. We are happy to send you a free colour kit so that you can try that approach. If you would like to proceed with that, please contact Support at support@theshade.com.au who will arrange it. I've used all manner of hair dye. This is ok. Hair not super shiny or super moisturised, but survived colour process. Colour still on brassy side despite picking ashy tone.

The product was great and easy to use. Definitely needed multiple packs for long hair. Colour was however still very warm tone and my roots were orange, so that was a bit disappointing. Would be great I you sold toner.

Love this product as I have a chemical allergy to a preservative well-known throughout Europe as MI—I alternate between medium to light blondes as my natural hair colour is mouse.
Helpful Report
Product felt lovely and gave good coverage however where I was looking for a copper colour it only came out as brown and darker than was expected.
Helpful Report
Hi Alex, If your colour result was darker, that could only be because you either had darker colour pigments in your hair before colouring from previous colour, or your natural colour was more than two levels darker than level 6, as our colour can lift by two levels only. Our colourists can help, but we need more information about your hair history and goals so please contact them directly here https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! The Shade team
