“The colour was much darker than I expected despite putting in what I had used previously. It was easy to mix. The application was fine. It Covered most of the greys but not all. The shampoo and conditioner are hard to open once you are in the shower. I didn't see any difference from using a box from the supermarket. I wouldn't support a subscription but maybe a buy when you want it as I wouldn't normally colour my hair every 5 weeks.”

“The color I selected was much darker than presented in the photo advertisement. I have changed my color choice and will wait on the outcome of the next application to determine if I continue my subscription.”

“I wanted to love this! Some parts were good, others disappointing. The hair clips in the kit were really poor quality - they couldn't hold my (short) hair - the springs just weren't strong. The colour itself was good - no strong smell and good coverage of greys. The shampoo was very 'sudsy' makes me think there were lots of sulfates, and way too highly perfumed - I got a headache from the smell that lingered in my hair. A 'touch up' kit would be great, as I don't always want to do a full colour”

“Slightly disappointed as the grey coverage isn’t long lasting for me, even with the extra developer for pre-softening. I’m currently 3 weeks in and I can see most of my greys have returned. Colour started coming off gradually pretty much since the first wash. My colour was Dark Golden Brown, and like most other reviews, I found it to be darker than I expected. Under sunlight though it’s nice. The good thing is because it’s a subscription, it forces me to colour regularly to cover my greys. It also didn’t cause any irritation on my very sensitive scalp.”

“I was expecting a better outcome to be honest. I used the softener before the colouring process and the outcome was still not very good. The greys are still evident and the color didn’t take to them enough like the advertisements. The shampoo and conditioner smelled lovely. The packaging of products wonderful. I was very hopeful of a better outcome.”

“Love the kit but not the colour. I've tried the dark blonde and the Ash blonde on consultation advice but both colours give my hair a red/orange tinge which is something I totally hate. Other than that, it's great but I won't use it again because of the tinge.”

“Good coverage for greys, but I ordered a 6 which is the color level I would usually have and it was much darker than a level 6 would normally be on my hair. I also noticed quite a bit of hair fall when I was rinsing the dye out (pre-test was fine), and I also found that the shampoo and conditioner left my hair feeling quite matted. The color has lasted well (4 weeks). Overall reasonably good color but I would go a level lighter if I was to order again.”

“I selected Sorrento colour, as I wanted a cool ash blonde shade. My hair was previously coloured with fine blonde foils. As you can see from the attached photo, my hair came out, including the new hair growth, a toffee colour. It doesn’t look anything like the images on your site. Whilst it isn’t bad, it isn’t what I wanted. I have considered purchasing Veneto next time, however I am unsure it will be a cool ash blonde colour due to my previous experience. I did speak to a colourist, who was lovely however she didn’t explain why my natural blonde uncoloured hair would be darker and have a warm appearance with Sorrento. I am thinking about canceling my subscription and waiting until my colour grows out and/or going to a salon. Your product was easy to apply and left my hair texture soft and shiny so if the colour had come out like the photos displayed on your website I would have been happy to continue to use The Shade products. “Given it was a blond colour it was darker than I expected. However I do love the colour. I found it also faded quickly. I did contact shade and was told the right thing to do. Which I did do. Will try again a little earlier than I normally would and see how it goes.”

“The colour is very nice, but I wouldn't call this a very user friendly kit. First, the clips don't have any strength and just fall out of my hair. The developer cream is in a metal tube, and very hard to squeeze the contents out of. It pierced my gloves so, I ended up with a stained finger at the end. The shampoo and conditioner sachets are also very hard to open in the shower. It took ages to get them opened properly. The conditioner didn't seem to do much for my hair. It still felt dry and very frizzy once it dried. It's a great idea, but not for me.”

“Great application kit, colour not true 4.1 ash dark brown had a lot red tone still and did not cover greys even after following a further 10min to develop. Colour left hair dry and I was pleased the kit had a moisturising conditioner. Overall it is a good DYI home product.”

Hi Sandra, Thanks for your feedback. Our Toscano 4.1 Dark Ash Brown neutralises warm tones; I suspect there is an underlying reason why there is still red tones in your hair. We recommend a process called pre-softening ($2.95) for stubborn greys. “I actually did not use the product, as I could not get support from a colourist after many attempts on the web site, email and phoning. I tried to explain that I have greyish white regrowth and have been having my hair colored professionally for years previously natural colour blonde and whether or not to use the bleach precolour wash to soften my very soft fine regrowth touchup.”

“The survey suggested "Chocolate Blonde" would be the colour for me but, unfortunately my greys turned a reddish colour. I used the extra developer beforehand, as suggested because my hair can be quite resistant to colour. The idea is good but not for me, sorry. Too fiddly to apply the colour (I had to get my husband to help with the back).”
