Absolutely appalling would never travel with this company again. Booked our motorhome on our holiday to the isle of Wight due to unfortunate circumstances we had to take our small car instead, we were charged an extra £60 for the privilege of taking the car on the same ferry same time. Wightlink say the car was more expensive on the day we travelled. Disgusting

Following a cancellation of my return sailing on Sunday 29 July I tried to call the contact number in the e-mail sent to me notifying me of the cancellation. I had an elderly passenger with me and simply accepting the later sailing on which I had been re-booked was not acceptable. Despite numerous attempts the phone was never answered. Hopeless.

Hello Graham I'm sorry your experience of travelling with us is poor. The service performance of our ferries is high - though I realise this will be of little consolation if you've been affected by delays. Our performance is updated on our website each month on the 'About Wightlink' page. I'm sorry you found our staff to be rude. If you'd like to use the form on our 'contact us' page, we'd be happy to investigate this further.

I’ve been travelling to the IOW on Wightlink regularly since 2010. In the last 18 months the ferry has been late leaving time and again. The excuse has always been a broken down coach, which conveniently means Wightlink do not have to pay compensation. The price has gone up and up, the ferries are old and the one I travelled on had disgusting toilets, no decent food outlets, and had a funny smell. All for the cut price of £105 day return.

Hello Jilly I'm sorry your opinion of us is so poor and I apologise that you were delayed. I realise it will be of little consolation to you as you were delayed but our service performance has improved significantly since we built the new terminal at Portsmouth and are now using double-deck loading both sides of the Solent. This is all part of a £45 million investment to improve our service - the final part being the arrival of our new flagship, Victoria of Wight, due to enter service later this year. I do hope that you will continue to travel with us and start to experience an improvement for yourself.

Hi Dave I'm sorry you were delayed both ways. Our punctuality has improved significantly since our new port facilities have been installed, though I realise this will come as little consolation to you as you were affected. Depending on the reason for the delay you may be entitled to compensation. Simply head over to the 'contact us' page of our website and read the details on the compensation form for more information and to make a claim. Kind Regards The Team at Wightlink

Delayed ferry outgoing. Not advised or informed our return ferry would depart from a completely different location to where our tickets said.

Hello Jemma Thank you for your review. I'm sorry your outgoing ferry was delayed. I'm a little confused, we've not diverted any of our ferries since last year. Did you book through a third-party or agent that gave you the wrong details on your ticket?

The boat left an hour and seven minutes late due to a staff shortage. Second time this has happened to us in a year.

So many sailings were cancelled on my original choice of route (Portsmouth-Fishbourne) I knew the sailing you rebooked me on would have been full to bursting. I changed routes to Lymington-Yarmouth to avoid. Having got to the terminal 66 minutes early (you do allow up to 60 on your ticket) I was told by a little jobsworth in the hut to come back in half an hour. When I refused to drive round burning fuel, he relented and I queued up, managing to get the earlier ferry, which was far from full in any case - so much for the little jobsworth. On the return trip I was bounced off my booked sailing because of a broken down vessel earlier, and had to wait for 90 minutes until the next one. I was livid. Clearly you have nothing but contempt for your customers.

Dear James I was sorry to read you were affected by disruption when you travelled with us recently and apologise for the poor service you received. If you were delayed to your booked sailing time by more than 90 minutes then you may be eligible to claim some of your fare back under our compensation policy, please see our website for details.

Ferry broken on Friday (departure) night, caused Portsmouth grid lock and took an hour to move 1 mile! Ferry broken again on Sunday (return) afternoon. If you offer a service, deliver that service. c.£140 for a very poor experience, suggest you invest some money and stop maximising profits.

Hello James I was sorry to read you were affected over the weekend when one of our car ferries was unfortunately withdrawn from service. This delay was caused by a mechanical problem, which we are investigating to prevent in future. In general delays are rare and 99.5% of services on our Portsmouth car ferry route were on time last month. I appreciate this will come as little comfort as you were one of the few customers who have been affected. If you were delayed by over 60 minutes you may be entitled to claim some of your ferry fare back as compensation, please see our website for more information. Sorry again for the disappointing service you received.

You’re too expensive! Stop building unnecessary and ugly structures and just make it cheaper to visit family on and off the island.

Sorry you find our fares to be high. It can be worth checking our discounts and offers webpage to see if there's a deal you can take advantage of. Sailing off-peak when fewer customers are traveling can also reduce your fare.
