Apart from the high prices, especially for a day return. I was dismayed to find that the toilets near the ticket office were very grubby. The doors were sticky, and needed a good clean. Food on board was packaged and full of E numbers. In this day and age, healthy food should be available. Get you act together Wightlink

No shore staff to help you, one had to guess what to do and the lounge was awful . The ferry definitely needs a makeover

Made me pay an extra £50 to get on an earlier ferry, put a complete downer on the weekend.

The price is eye watering - £240 return for a small car and that's with a discount! The ferries seem very old these days too - ancient, smelly diesels. If there was an alternative we'd use that but there's no choice other than Red Funnel and they clearly price-match each other. The staff at Portsmouth and Fishbourne are friendly and efficient so that's where the 2 stars go.

Poor facilities at port. Dirty vessels. Very expensive. Only use them as a means of visiting my elderly mother

Service largely fine, pricing a real issue. Facilities at Yarmouth disappointing.

Everything about the Wightlink experience was really good. The staff. Cleanliness. Smooth running. Ease of embarking and disembarking. Etc. It’s the price that dropped it from 5 star to 2 star. For a short journey, especially in high season, it is astronomical unless you want to travel at stupid o clock. We love the Isle of Wight but what we spent on the ferry we could have had a long weekend somewhere. You are pricing yourselves out of business.

Officious staff in the Island ticket office with no customer service skills who very gleefully charged more on a ticket that was very clearly an error..Poor attitude affects all of you at Wightlink.

Need more staff on board to deal With idiots. Sailings regular and couple staff that are on board pleasant. We use wightlink every 5 weeks and this trip kids standing on tables, dirty nappies left under seats and dog waste in longe and outside. We paid £280 for this.

It's far too expensive and when we ended up having an extra 1.5 hour drive because our ferry was cancelled and we weren't notified we had to travel to Portsmouth to get across to the island there was no apology. It can't be blamed on front of house staff, just the system. A text message would be easier to pick up on the road when there is no wifi. Luckily we were staying the night otherwise the whole journey would have been wasted. The least wightlink could offer is a free journey to compensate.

Hello David I'm very sorry we had to reschedule your sailing on the day, after the route was suspended due to stormy weather. At the time we notified you by email and you didn't receive a text alert as unfortunately you don't seem to have added a mobile number when making your booking with us. We do ask for a mobile number when booking for this reason and do use this method to notify customers if there's a problem with their journey. Unfortunately you're not entitled to compensation for disruption caused by unsafe weather conditions, but if you contact us on our compensation page you will be able to claim your mileage expenses for being diverted to a different port. I'm sorry this delayed the start of your journey, but pleased we still managed to get you to the Island. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

Ferry’s are usually clean and modern. Service is often late and it’s unbelievably expensive. There aren’t many alternatives so they have a captive market. A cynical rip off, but what choice do you have if you need to get your car to and from the Island.

Hi Anonymous I'm sorry your opinion of our service is so poor. Generally speaking, Wightlink's reliability compares well against that of our competitors' (we display our service performance each month on our 'About Wightlink' webpage). However, I realise this will come as little consolation to any customers affected. It can also be worth checking our Discounts and offers webpage to see if there's a deal to take advantage of. Sorry once again. I do hope you will consider travelling with us again at some point in the future.

The most expensive ferry crossing in Europe apparently. Extortionate if you need to visit elderly relatives on the Island on a regular basis.

Hello G Ross, I am sorry you are finding the cost high to visit your relatives. I would always recommend booking in advance and avoiding busy times to get our lowest fares. If you book accommodation on the Island make sure to check if they have an inclusive ferry rate as we work with many companies on the Island to keep the cost of visiting down. If you travel on foot, don't forget to check our Multilink Passes, as these represent a great discount for customers who travel regularly as a foot passenger. I should perhaps mention that we are not the most expensive ferry in Europe, though it is true that many other ferry services benefit from transport and tourism subsidies. Unfortunately ours does not.

The problem with Wightlink is the service is unreliable. I have suffered cancellations owing to essential crew training, an important crew member being sick, winds gusting at more than 25 knots etc. Yes, all these things happen but Wightlink seems to have no spare crew members to fill gaps should something unexpected occur.

Dear Terence I am very sorry that you have been affected by disruption to our service recently. I understand how annoying and inconvenient this is and apologise that you've had to change your plans. Wightlink are the most reliable cross-Solent operator, but I appreciate this comes as little comfort when something goes wrong. We have a system to call in staff to cover illness, but unfortunately as we need colleagues of a range of different qualifications for each sailing, sometimes it isn't possible to cover every sailing at short notice. Sorry once again!
