Service quick but boat did not leave according to timetable. £97 for a day trip is extortionate

Dirty ferry, left late arrived late, was totally packed, dogs everywhere, cafe serving stuff that doesn't even meet the standards of a motorway service station.

When I arrived for the ferry I had booked on to, it was close to sailing time, I asked if would be on this ferry and was told that I would be however when I went to the designated lane there were no staff to direct me to board and a few minutes later the ferry departed. I was travelling to the island to visit a sick relative who sadly died before I could get to the hospital.

3 the last 4 times we have travelled we have twice had our sailing time changed - once when we were already on the island & couldn't receive the notification!! one of our altered sailings went 20/25 minutes late. staff on the quay at freshwater unhelpful - almost rude! its lucky for whitelink there is only little competition. friends & family on the island have had numerous problems this year. let us hope you are not damaging the tourist industry on this lovely island too much.

Compared with prices from December 2017 it shows there has been a big price increase since. I expect this increase in price is to pay for the new modern vessel now crossing the Portsmouth to Fishbourne route. The new vessel is so much better than previous ferries. It is so much quieter and with larger spaces too. I like how there is a children's section separated from other passengers areas; you are no longer bombarded with screaming children. As for the cleanliness of the new vessel, this is poor. I was the first person to board 07:00 Hrs on 24/12/2018 from Portsmouth Harbour to Fishbourne. It was evident that the male toilets had not been cleaned. All 3 cubicles were soiled. There was staining immediately under two of the urinals too. Considering that this was the first sailing of the day I had expected the toilets to have been freshly cleaned; they were not. When I engaged with a member of staff with my feedback I was informed that Wightlink does not employ enough staff to clean the vessel between sailings. Given the increase in fares and £40+ million invested I would expect cleanliness to be at the top of Wightlink's agenda. Sadly, this does not appear to be the case. Wightlink, having a spanking brand new ship needs to be maintained. I am disappointed that your company does not take cleanliness seriously. If you are unable to keep the public toilets shipshape I am now wondering what your food hygiene rating is? I did ask your employee at the food counter what your current food rating was; she didn't know. Again, this is so disappointing as all establishments offering food & drinks ought to have this certificate clearly displayed to the public.

You changed our ferry time and let me know at 2am via email. We were travelling with small children and to change it hours before without phoning/texting was ridiculous. We travel with you regularly but after this will change to red funnel. There has been no apology

Poor because the 0800 Portsmouth - Fishbourne Ferry Sunday 30 September was delayed, despite the signage saying 'Running on Time' - no communication from any Wightlink staff at all. We were heading for a christening and arrival was therefore delayed and we were anxious as we did not know when we would sail. The signage even changed to 'next sailing 0900' before we even saw the 0800 ferry! The ferry did arrive about 0825 (with consequential late departure) but lack of communication is a regular occurrence. Even on the website the latest service update was 1757 (or so) the previous day - no use at all!

Marvelous with disabled assistance, for foot passengers. The Car Ferry on the other hand is for too expensive. £215.00 for a return ticket! Discussing. Hope the proposed tunnel does go ahead. Having a monopoly over something comes a responsibility that shouldn't be abused.

We have used Wightlink for over 30 years. They are always a great service with friendly helpful staff. We sailed with you on 14th and 16th September 2018. We were attending a Classic Car show and all of your staff treated our Classic Corvette Stingray with the utmost care. We were placed at the front of the deck with plenty of room to allow our large doors to open fully. Your Terminal staff were great as always. The team loading and placing the vehicles were great too. We always sail with you because in our opinion you are the best.

Disappointed to receive an email at 10pm before we were due to sail home advising us we couldn't sail from Yarmouth at 12pm to Lymington and we now had to sail from Fishbourne at 1.30 pm to Portsmouth. No confirmation of a partial refund to date and caused us to change our plans for the bank holiday.

Disappointed with how I and scooter group were treated by the company on arrival at Portsmouth and subsequent waiting to be bordered. Staff were non communicative and we were left not knowing which ferry we would be on. Eventually after arriving at 10:12 boarded the 1130 sailing which left at 11:52. I was booked on the 1000 sailing but arrived late due to mechanical fail;ure of my scooter, staff informed me I should have been on time. Happy to be moved onto next sailing but did not happen for a further 2 sailings, eventually 9 scooters were allowed on with some 100+ awaiting to the rear.

Left waiting to board our scheduled ferry for one and a half hours with no communication as to the reason. Also very expensive. Ferry needed a refurb. Loads of car alarms were going off during journey. Toilets were in average condition.

On a day trip to the island, loading onto ferry from Portsmouth very quick, good clear instructions no problem. Same cannot be said on return journey , loading chaotic, vehicles asked to swap lanes and reverse when on ferry , when finally parked rear passengers in my vehicle were unable to get out I had to call attendant to instruct car in next lane to move back , this resulted in several other cars having to move .

The cost of this really short journey is extortionate. We can travel to France for less and that's a much longer journey!

Hello Christopher I'm sorry you found your fare to be high. Comparing us to different types of transport such as continental ferries isn't a fair example as the two operations are quite different, and are often financed in different ways. As an example, the costs of running a shared port are normally split between multiple companies who share facilities, as well as docks which are joint rented by a number of operators rather than individually owned, and may only run the number of departures each day that they can ensure are the most profitable. Also, a large proportion of revenue on longer crossings is earned from onboard spend, such as dining and retailing. However, there are still a number of ways customers can save on their fares with us. Generally speaking, the earlier you book the lower the fare. Lower fares may also be found by travelling on those sailings that fewer customers have booked. It's also worth checking out our Discounts and offers webpage as well as signing up to receive our newsletter. Thanks for travelling with us and I hope we get the chance to welcome you on board again in the future.

Hi Martin I'm sorry you found your fare to be on the high side. There are a number of ways to save. Generally speaking, the earlier customers book with us the more likely they are to pay a lower fare. This enables us to offer lower fares for those sailings that fewer customers have reserved, which means lower fares may be found by being more flexible with dates, routes or times of sailing. It could be worth checking our Discounts and Offers webpage to see if there are any deals you can take advantage of (one of the most popular offers currently is to Boost the value of Tesco Clubcard vouchers by x 3 their value to use with us). Simply hover over the ‘Go’ menu on the top of our homepage. If you’re staying overnight on the Isle of Wight, it could also be worth checking with your hotel or accommodation provider to see if they offer reduced ferry deals – some may even include ferry travel as part of their packages. We have a section dedicated to our accommodation partners on our website, some of who offer these deals Finally, you may want to consider signing up our website to receive our newsletters by email to be kept informed of various news, events and special offers we may run from time to time. Thank you for travelling with us and I do hope that some of the above information is of use to help you secure the best possible
