I recently acquired a copy of "The Riddling Reaver" from WOB, expecting it to be in 'very good' condition as advertised. However, the book I received was far from satisfactory, with visible creases and a notable cut on the spine, which contradicted the condition described in the listing. Expressing my concerns to WOB, I was met with a standard response that the condition of the book fell "within their guidelines", which I found quite disheartening. My previous interactions with WOB's customer service had been relatively positive, with issues usually resolved in my favor, often through refunds. Yet, I've observed a concerning trend in the quality of books listed as 'very good'—a significant portion, over 30%, fail to meet the advertised standard. It appears that my repeated complaints have led to a shift in how WOB addresses customer feedback, now opting to dismiss concerns as 'within guidelines' rather than tackling the underlying issue of quality control. Furthermore, despite the clear quality issue, I am willing to return the book for a refund, but WOB's refusal to cover the return shipping costs adds to my frustration. This stance is particularly vexing because the fault lies with the product's quality, which is their responsibility. A recent interaction with a representative who seemed to brush aside my complaint has led me to believe that WOB may prefer to deflect ongoing quality issues rather than taking steps to enhance their quality assurance processes and ensure customer satisfaction. In light of these experiences, while I have previously been a proponent of WOB's services, the persistent quality issues with their 'very good' condition books and the dismissive handling of legitimate grievances, coupled with their refusal to assume responsibility for return shipping on a quality-related return, have considerably marred my shopping experience with them. In conclusion, WOB might be a viable option if you're looking for books at a relatively low cost, but it falls short if you expect to receive exactly what you ordered in terms of quality and condition.

I will never use WOB again, I have an issue with my deliveries, and CANNOT speak to anyone. This is such poor PR. If any of my family or friends suggest using you I will do my best to ensure they never use you. thanks, but never again

I ordered a book. I got a book. That's the beginning and end of the entry. But everything around it is weird. How does a company send a dozen emails about a bloody book? I'm buying a graphic novel for a friend; not negotiating a seven-figure, multinational trade deal. Sign up, confirm email, we've confirmed your email, here's a code for a discount, have you checked out yet, order received, item sent, item in transit, item delivered, have you reviewed us, have you forgotten to review us? It's a book, dammit! I'm not joining a cult or wanting to embed myself in your ecosystem. You had the book for a good price. Will you stop bothering me about every little thing? I hate micromanagement, being micromanaged doubly so. Book was good though

I will be sticking with ThriftBooks. Although I really love the idea behind their recycling, less land fill, environmentally friendly approach. They said I'd get my order in 5-10 days, its 2 days passed their expected delivery and tracking says another 7-10 "working days". I needed this book for a college course and am now 3 chapters behind, and too late to cancel order.

A map was ordered for our holiday & did not get delivered before our departure date. We thought 8 days would be enough. Map not a lot of use now.

Ordered a book about Agile & Data Warehousing, in 'Very Good Condition'. Now, to me, that means that the jacket is a little bit dog-eared or there's a couple of scuffs....but on the whole, its in a pretty good state. What I got, physical condition-wise was ok, but there were LOTS of pages with highlighted segments, scribbles, bracketed-out....very distracting when trying to read. There was even a note from WoB saying basically, "we know this book isn't great, but we sent it anyway". Interesting ethic ! I wonder if that would work at Ebay, "yeah, the item you wanted, it's a bit more broken than what we said, but we'll send it anyway"...... To me, WoB basically use this way of working to sell on books that are of poor quality that they couldn't get rid of otherwise, or at least at a MUCH lower price. They rely on people thinking, "this only cost me X amount, I really can't be bothered to send it back, I'll just put up with it". Unfortunately, I fall into this category, rightly or wrongly, it's nearly Christmas and faffing around with this isn't high on my priority list. What is high however, is never using WoB again.

I’ve ordered from WoB for a number of years without any issues, however recently, my most recent orders have being in an unacceptable condition as to what they were advertised-which seems to be a recurrent theme in recent bad reviews. I usually buy books as gifts and to avoid buying new/save from landfill etc, so buying a book described as being in ‘very good condition’ - you expect a certain standard. Unfortunately books have arrived torn, water stained and pages coming away at the book block, which make then unable and quite frankly, embarrassing to gift. It seems a bit hit and miss these days-perhaps the company has got too big and quality assurance has slipped. WoB are clearly mis-selling items - be truthful in their condition and customers will then decide for themselves whether to buy or not. The customer service assistants that have dealt with my issues have been good and refunded in full on a previous occasion-and I’m waiting to hear on the most recent complaint-however, it’s not so much about the cost as many of the books are inexpensive….WoB please just readdress your quality assurance measures and sell books honestly according to their quality!

On March 21st I ordered 'States of Mind: ESP and Altered States of Consciousness'. It was described as being in 'very good' condition and cost £5.59 excluding postage. On March 21st I received an email saying the book had been dispatched. The next day I received a further email saying 'I'm afraid that during our quality control checks we found that your item was in very poor condition due to damage occurring whilst in storage at the warehouse. Unfortunately we don't have any more copies of that item in stock at the moment to replace the order with.' The book is not a common one. I looked again on Amazon and saw that only three copies were listed, including one from World of Books priced at £23.50 and described as being in 'good' condition only (I have a screen grab of this). So I've had a frustrating and puzzling experience with World of Books. Why was a book in very good condition being sold at so much less than one in just good condition? Why wasn't I told how the book got damaged? Why wasn't I sent a picture of the damaged copy so that I could choose whether I still wanted it? Why was I told World of Books didn't have another copy when they did? And surely both copies would have been stored in the same place, so why weren't both copies damaged? The two-star rating is for the prompt was my refuned request was processed.

Just received the title I ordered, slightly delayed delivery but still a fast delivery (as usual). However, it is not the edition of the book shown on the website and it is not in the excellent condition promised. It has a different front cover to the one I ordered so it does not fit in with the other volumes I have received from World of Books, the pages are very yellowed, the cover is scruffy. Very disappointed.

One of the books I ordered was grubby with loose pages. After 3 days still waiting for "world of books" to respond to my complaint. Not good customer service.

Ordered two books, both were in poor condition. Postage to send back cost almost as much as the books cost so I threw them away. Complete waste of money and they cost about half the amount of a new book. However some people may have been happy with these books because they were both readable with no missing pages.

First order was fantastic. Second order - one lift the flap book that was meant to be "very good condition" arrived with flaps missing and stickers stuck over words. Gave them benefit of the doubt as they offered to replace. Third order - 1 out of 3 arrived. 2 weeks after order I received email to say one of the books was deemed too damaged to send, asked me to select replacement. Replacement has still not been received. Then received an email to say third book in the order had been dispatched only to receive another email the following day to say that the supposed dispatched book was too damaged to send. Appears to be little communication in the company. Terrible customer service.

I did not receive my item after the days that it instructed me to wait (on the website) and assumed as it was a larger order it may come separately (as also instructed by the website) but it didn’t. I emailed 3 times and no response. Only email was this one! A review email. Not happy at all and I’m very disappointed as I’ve always used WOB’s. I will try to make a phone call as this seems to be possibly the only way I will get a resolve.

2.5/5 stars Website and order was easy to use - no problems there. Prices are fairly high for what is essentially a book that would've been sent to landfill/recycle. For example, their own book buying service offers the price of £0.43 for a book they're selling for £4.99. Delivery was completed in an average time frame over the course of a week (disregarding the book that got lost in the post). However, books were not packaged at all except for a thin plastic bag which had ripped open on 3/4 packages. One book was so mangled that I had to get a refund - the pages were curled up and torn apart and it had damp damage and smelt mouldy. Another book did not arrive and I had to request a replacement, so my order was not completed until almost a month after my order was placed. Customer service was fairly responsive and were able to resolve the problems easily. For this reason the review is not 1/5. Overall I wouldn't jump to use the service again. I wouldn't necessarily recommend others to buy from them. I would say seek out a competitor.
