I know when I appropriately place the unit to obtain apical pulse because I can see the NSR or the equivalent for a lead II measurement. I love the unit and need to keep a close eye on it because others do, too.

This is my second Eko product, I have the core which I love but with covid I did not like it as much as a Bluetooth stethoscope (mostly related to my choice in stethoscope head) so I wanted to try to duo. Sound quality on the duo is excellent. One issue I had with other brands of electronic stethoscopes is even on max volumes the sounds were still soft, on the DUO, I keep the volume settings on the lowest 2 settings and have plenty of volume. Bluetooth wireless mode works well, my only complaint is app related and the need to often reopen the app to re-connect, I don’t like having to pull my phone out if I’m in a covid room. If there was a way to not have to go through the connect device screen every single time that’d help. But I would probably also complain if my phone battery died every few hours so I understand the trade off there but if there was a way to streamline the app connection that’d be helpful. I do not use the ekg function, I’m an ICU doc and it is exceedingly rare that I don’t have tele readily available. When I first started using the duo I was disappointed as I got a lot of electrical hum during exam, I assumed due to all the wires and devices running on many of my ICU patients. I’ve figured out I can completely remove the hum by taking my other hand and placing it on the patients skin, ideally without a glove but a gloved hand also reduces the hum significantly as well. I do use the scope with the earpieces a significant amount as well, my 2 complaints there are I wish I could adjust the angle of the earpiece a little and the design of the ear tips is very prone to being dislodged and lost. I would replace my Welch Allyn ear tips once a year when they broke, I’ve replaced 3 Eko tips since April from them becoming dislodged and vanishing.

I have used both the Duo and CORE stethoscopes. I am truely impressed with both. The Duo provides a single lead to view baseline rhythm which can be used to determine irregularities, but p waves and intervals are a bit difficult to discern in larger patients. The CORE has amazing amplification. In review, I would recommend the DUO for a more calm clinical settingand the CORE for anyone in the field due to its audible clarity, but I am impressed with both. The phone app (Samsung android test only) is stable most of the time, but every now and then I do need to forget and repair the connection in Bluetooth settings.

The sound when using the including ear piece is amazingly clear. Better than my Littman 3100. However; getting it connected to my Android phone is another matter. The phone finds the Duo but can't connect unless you clear the Bluetooth cache and data. This is really a pain to do, because you have to hunt for the systems app and unhide it then clear.
