save a long story the rac damaged my engine. The cost of repair is over £10000 they have admitted to some damage and they shouldn't have jumpstart it on a tow bar which they did ( apparently the recovery driver told us the damage it might have cause if he did it and the what could happen) but the recovery did not tell us anything about it might cause damage and did it anyway. If they had told us the dangers it might cause and what could go wrong, then we would not have let him do it) all the recovery driver said was, I'm going to try jumping it and told us what to do. Nothing elsemThey've only offered £3500 that's not even half of what they should be paying. Will never go back to them. Don't bother wasting your time, they'll only make the issue worse.

Switched to RAC from AA while at Barclays Bank, who proudly sold me the idea, savings & simplicity of switching... more than a year later needed help for the first time with a flat battery. My partner had been waiting outside Yeovil hospital for four hours to take me home, but I was unexpectedly kept in for observation overnight. Called RAC explaining situation, long before I knew I’d be staying, they were going to prioritize as “medical emergency”. Just like many of the previous unsatisfied customers below, I had one 45 mins and 3 “arriving in 30 min texts”, last one being “arriving in 70 mins”! Eventually had a call exactly 4 hours later. Having lost confidence in their ability to coordinate their patrols after three hours, we arranged help from friends to jump start the car. My partner was home in bed when I had the call in hospital that the RAC was nearby. Bad, bad service, although I imagine the patrols are probably capable & professional - unlike the team of coordinators. I have to go back to the AA. Just why are Barclays actively promoting the RAC? That’s a rhetorical question.

I had left my lights on and drained my battery so called RAC. The patrol man was rude to me saying it was "my fault" ...I know it was but these things happen and I was shocked that he was so rude, after all I didn't do it intentionally! He told me that because I'd left my lights on I'd damaged my battery and would need to replace it. He put it on charge for 15mins then told me it had failed the test. However I was suspicious and said no, I would not buy a new battery as mine was only a few months old - I've been driving nearly 40 years and have had flat batteries before in the past and just had a jump start with no further problems. I went back indoors after thinking he had finished, then 10 mins later he was still on my drive and rang me on my mobile asking me to go back outside and offered me 40% discount on a new battery. I once again said no ...I felt very uncomfortable to be honest. I then did a Google search after he'd gone and found that Watchdog had done a report on RAC a few years ago for getting people to buy a new battery when it wasn't necessary. Looks like they are still trying to do this!! My car is now running fine after taking it for a nice long drive straight after.

6 hours ago i phoned and still no mechanic. I've been paying for this for years, over £20- a month and can't remember the last time i used them. I had a call over an hour ago from their special intervention team and they assured me that he would be with me in 34 minutes. He's just phoned to say that he's an hour away so she lied to me before?! I will definitely be cancelling and changing to another breakdown provider! If i could give zero stars i would!

Do not use them! No help whatsoever! They didn’t even attempt to help me after I had a breakdown in the middle of the motorway with my 3 years old baby!

Stranded for over 4hrs in early hours of the morning, with my car in a dangerous place, I was recommended by the RAC to abandon my car and find a way home. When I informed them it would be highly dangerous to leave my car across the road with no one to flag down oncoming traffic and guide them around my stationary car (already informed the previous three people I spoke to of this fact) I was once again left waiting for the never appearing tow truck. Luckily, through the amazing good will of passerbys I was able to move the car to a less dangerous position and get home. Not sure what im going to do with my abandoned car as at 4am in the morning I was fed up of listening to 'on-hold' music. Luckily I was only a few miles from home!

Well my car broke down in the middle of nowhere rang RAC they said someone will be you 1 to 4 hours. And so 4 hours past so I rang again only to be told it had been cancelled by this it's getting dark and my car dangerous position no food or water midnight came still no one so another phone call only to be told no one was coming that day and they would get a taxi and that I would have to ring again the next day. So the next morning arrived 7 am I rang the Rac who then informed me that someone will be with me at 0840 so i had to arrange a taxi £65 to get me back to my car 0840 came and went 10 am someone finally turned up only to be told he cant fix it and it will be recovered he then left me still in a very dangerous position and to get another taxi back to where I was staying and I asked the Rac to ring me 40 minutes before so I could meet the recovery agent at my car so I never received a call 36 hours later my car was recovered and they said the is on it's way to you're garage the next day little confidence in them it never arrived so another call only be told it's in a compound and they don't know when it will be with me. STAY CLEAR OF THIS COWBOY OUTFIT

The RAC mechanic was excellent, but it means nothing when the relay service mess up the taxi booking, leaving me stranded with two small children 400 miles from home, are rude, refuse to pay for onward travel because 'it's a long way' when the service I signed up for stated UK-wide cover, and then keep my vehicle in storage for three days (so far), again because 'it's a long way'. Their customer service are not allowed to tell me anything, apparently, nor are they allowed to give a geographical location for my camper van nor which subcontractor it is in storage with (yes - 'storage'. I signed up for relay, not storage)!. They will not give out any other numbers and instead just say 'customer solutions will call you'. Which they never do. Just to be clear, this is MY CAMPER VAN which THEY HAVE but won't tell me where or when I'll get it back. It has all of my bank cards and most of my family's clothes plus fresh food rotting on board. This must be close to criminal - DO NOT USE THE RAC.

25 minutes wait before the call centre dealt with my call and then the agent had no idea of my location and recorded it wrongly - twice. The rescue vehicle finally arrived 2 hours later and the call centre had given him the wrong information as to the cause of the breakdown.

Totally unprofessional and are only worried about taking money. RAC patrol man didn't know what he was doing and ruined my car. Save your money and go with the AA.

It took 3 days to recover my car & caravan, I'd taken out extra cover because of the caravan, which they tried to use as an excuse for having no one to send! They didn't care that my passengers were an 81 year old & a bipolar lady. The RAC wouldn't refund the balance of my membership as apparently 72 hours for them is "using the service" My membership number is 200110004738485

Stuck at the side of the road with a flat tyre and my wife and 4 children in the car. Took almost 5 hours for someone to come and the RAC pride themselves that they got someone out within the timescale that they said. When I called after 3 hours she admitted that they hadn't put on the system that I had children in the car. Their follow up emails from customer service were rude and pathetic. Avoid at all costs.

If anyone in UK think you are safe to travel by having the breakdown with RAC think again! There is not such a thing as safety or customer care with RAC. basically, they take your money for many years and when you need them, they will tell you to deal with it yourself. Car broke down on the middle of nowhere and waited for over 10 hours in 30-degree heat with no food no water and no one show up, no phone calls no apology! I was 200 miles away from home and I have to pay privately to recover my vehicle which was instructed by RAC agent. When I've sent a claim to get my money back RAC deny any knowledge of it. Here is the game RAC playing when your vehicle breakdown. 1- If you are brave enough to wait for 2 days, they will send a sub-contractor to move your vehicle from the current location to up to 5 miles radius and leave your vehicle on a private restricted area. 2- Then they promise you someone else will come within 30 minutes to recover your vehicle to your home address. 3- As soon the first sub-contractor off load your vehicle it is customer responsibility simple as that. None ever will show up. I have witness this on the day when my vehicle broke down. I though it was only me having the problem with RAC, but what I found out while I was waiting for the RAC to recover my vehicle I saw few more RAC customers having the exact same problem, leave them the same area and give them the same promise. I asked one of the RAC customer how long has been waiting with your kids for the RAC patrol and the answer was shocked me 23 hours!!! I don’t know what happen with RAC but defiantly I won’t be renewing my contract with them and will never trust this company again. RAC should be a shame for what they do to them customers.
