Broke down at 4pm on Sunday 22nd October, there was no mobile phone signal, & I had to walk at least half a mile in order to obtain a signal on my phone. I explained to the operator that both my wife & myself are both 80 years of age &that I had a heart problem & had difficulty in walking, I was informed that the expected time for help to arrive would be 10 - 57 pm. We received text messages every hour all saying that ( we are trying hard to get someone to us ) what good was that when we have no heat as we were unable to start the car. The temperature had dropped down to 7 degrees. The last message was at 8am on 23rd October still saying that ( we are still trying to get someone to us ) 15 HOURS from my first call it could have been in the news that two people were either in hospital with hypothermia or that two found dead in their car from the cold. We found help we flagged a passing motorist who went back home brought back a flask of tea blankets & his tool kit & repaired our car & we arrived safe at home at 12-45am. We sent a letter of complaint 12 days ago and until today they have chosen not to reply. If this is how they treat priority people, how bad must treat all the others

I've been with RAC for about 3 years and for the first 2 years I used them quite often. Yes, the wait was long but the customer service was top-notch and always amazing from the phone customer service to the engineers fixing the issue on the car. I hadn't called them for about a year and then I recently needed them as my car was showing a puncture but when checking the wheel the puncture was supposed to be on it was fine. I called the first time and I received a very standoffish, rushing me off the phone, not trying to deal with this type of attitude from the phone. I was basically told to deal with it myself despite having tyre cover on my policy. I called again the next day and I got a lovely gentleman who gave me genuine advice and told me how to get this issue resolved. I don't know what happened during this first call as I've never experienced this in the 3 years I've used RAC. The phone customer service rep told me to reset my car system when I told him I don't know how to do this. He said he will talk me through it but that didn't happen. he changed the subject telling me to go and pump the tyre and that was it. I told him I had done this already but it is still showing tyre pressure issues. I felt that all the money I'm paying for the service is going to waste as the help I'm requesting and paying for has not been met. The 2nd call definitely redeemed them as I was ready to cancel my policy and go to another breakdown service. Customer service cannot leave paying customers like that with no useful advice. RAC needs to review their recruitment policies ASAP before you start losing private customers.

Recently I broke down on M1 and was able to get off the motorway and found a lay-by. I was able to report this to RAC via their website (much faster than ringing- there was no answer). I received regular text updates which I found helpful and reassuring. Firstly, I would like to say thank you to Cory who did a fantastic job and provided polite and warm customer experience. Unfortunately Cory was not able to fix my car as the problem was more serious. Cory then communicated with other services to get me towed as my car was too heavy for his van. Then, Marcus came and loaded the car (which was difficult) and took me home. Marcus was warm and professional and did an exceptional job! I then received a text with phone number where I could organise the rest of my journey. Again, fantastic and helpful lady on the other side of the phone arranged the rest of my journey for me, which made me feel supported and reassured I will get where I wanted to go. I was very happy with the whole service. The only down side was the whole experience (car check +towing home) took just over 6 hours. I will remain with RAC for the rest of my driving days :)

Took a little longer than originally said it would to get somebody to me. Although good communication via text messages and kept updated. When the patrol arrived the problem was diagnosed and sorted quickly and I was on my way home within 30mins.

These guys are an absolute riot of a company. The recent reviews on here are shocking and it looks like they need to be shut down. I've just had two days of them not giving a damn about the customer, making me wait hours and hours without any communication at all. They are in cahoots with certain garages and seem to prioritise work based on that - and whether or not they'll make money from buying a part from EuroCarParts (who they have their accounts and commissions with). I gave up on day 2 and tracked down a local mechanic to replace a damaged part that I bought from a parts shop. Avoid at all costs. I had good experiences with them a few years back but it looks like they can't cope or just don't care now.

Happy with the service I got, they automatically renewed my breakdown cover, when I called up they said they’d sent me an email already (they hadn’t). Only offered partial refund as I was past the 14 day period of renewal, sent an email to complaints and they offered a full refund. I think a company should be judged not on the mistakes they make but on how they rectify them, the fact they gave a full refund I am happy to return back With them and show some loyalty.

Today 25th April 2020, my disabled daughter and I broke down on the M80 between Denny and Stirling. Due to the current situation Covid19 the breakdown recovery was pretty quick. I was told it would take 45 mins and Stephan arrived 1hr and 10 later. Apologetic on our wait and very helpful. My Zaferia 06 plate went into a cloud of smoke from the engine. Dash lights where red and Amber. Car was unable to start. Stephen spoke to my machanic who he know as he's a local man himself to give him probable cause of breakdown and fault. Due to social distancing he was unable to take my daughter and I to the garage and then home, something RAC offer. I was offered a paid taxi, but my better half came. My daughter and I were very thankful. Great service Thanks again Stephen

Whist driving from home to Corsham on Saturday 27th October, car started making a terrible racket. Pulled over onto hard shoulder, then grass verge and called RAC. This was at 14.03pm, took ages to get through, explained what was wrong, said we needed to wait for Patrol Man. Andrew appeared within the hour and checked out the vehicle. didn’t have the correct tool to fix the car, which I thought was bad, surely they should have the right kit. In the end he gave us two options, get recovery to destination then find a garage to hopefully fix car or get recovery back home at a total cost of £265 as I didn’t have the right package. After discussion we agreed it was probably better to head home. Andrew told us if Recovery wasn’t there by 16.30pm to call in, which I did. Told we would have to wait as they didn’t have a recovery vehicle available so they had to use a subcontractor who would be with us in 2hrs. Sat in the car freezing in a lay-by waiting for CVR to turn up. Luckily he came half an hour early and he got us sorted in no time. RAC please make sure your patrolmen have the right tools when they are attending breakdowns - I could have been enjoying my Birthday break in a lovely Hotel, not sat at home 😞
