BEWARE – RAC WARRANTY NOT HONOURED I had a rocker cover replaced by RAC, which required removing the fuel injectors. The stretch bolts must be tightened correctly or replaced — yet one snapped after six months, which should never happen. I was taken to an RAC-approved garage and followed the SMR team’s instructions exactly: get the diagnosis and then send the invoice for a warranty claim. Only afterwards was I told this was wrong — apparently a mobile mechanic must attempt the repair first, even though they wouldn’t have the tools to remove a snapped injector bolt. Because of this incorrect advice, I’m now £900 out of pocket, plus the £600 for the original repair. I feel completely misled and I am now taking this further.

the worst company i've ever had to deal with. been stranded currently for 19 hours with no end in sight. they didn't care that my son has asthma and the cold has caused him to have an attack. had 8 calls with them (usually after spending 30 mins on hold), and everything they've said on all 8 calls has turned out to be a lie. what's on the website under my 'help' is also innaccurate - i'm pretty sure they're not arriving 3 hours ago. a few of them have also been extremely rude over the phone. i'm not the type to usually leave reviews, but this whole experience has been a nightmare. oh and they're blaming the weather but it's just a bit of light rain! i've got 10 months of this membership left but i'm about to sign up for the AA instead. So to sum up, please avoid this company at all costs! absolute shambles and rude at the same time

AVOID!! Single female stranded, requested the rescue at 8pm, estimated arrival 04:40, left the car and paid for a taxi. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Avoid. Breakdown on countryroad. Vehicle could not be driven. 9.5 hours and we're OAPs. No food nor heating. Do not use the RAC.

Has a flat tyre on M1 was told an hour then went up to 3 hours then changed to 7 hours, this is on motorway middle of night this is the kind of service RAC providing an emergency, I pay £54 a month for this. I will be cancelling my payments as soon as I get home and I will never recommend RAC to anybody please please use a decent company like AA or even green flag. This is the second time they have done this to me. Basically being scammed by this company. Phone roadrunner tires in Rotherham 45 minutes later they were here. That is what I call service. Once again avoid RAC at all cost.

dreadful organization, go the AA, RAC are useless and expensive , broke down, the attendant was rude, unhelpful and angry, waste of time and money!!

This week, I joined the RAC. Since then, I've spent hours trying to contact the rescue team, but the app never completes the connection to the RAC after I fill out the rescue form. My phone and internet signal are top-of-the-range. I called the RAC offices, but today, Sunday, no one answers—just the answering machine. A company of this size should have staff answering the phone every day of the year. Phone communication is likely the most reliable, as the website generates multiple connection issues.

AVOID THIS COMPANY! RAC mobile mechanics were booked in to get my car back on the road a month ago. They took payment for a part but have cancelled 7 times in a row (with little to no notice). Some of those times they just didn’t show up and didn’t even tell me they weren’t coming. When the mechanic finally did show up a couple of weeks ago, he had to go again because head office had ordered the wrong part. Their customer care is shocking, they just don’t seem to care at all, causing the customer to go round in circles. The customer care team only work 9am-2pm, Mon- Fri, so it’s a nightmare for anyone with a job to get anywhere with them. When emailing, they either don’t reply or they dismiss and close the case without a solution. It’s now a month later and I’m still without a working car, due to the incompetence of this company. I’ve cancelled the job and still waiting for them to process a refund for the parts that they owe me. AVOID!

Won’t me using in future . Van brake down on the motorway led me to call them. The vehicle that arrived didn’t have a working apparatus to tow me to my location. Another vehicle arrives . They tow me to some random shop garage in Manchester somewhere . There I wait 4 hours for a tow truck to come in freezing cold . As my engine didn’t work, I couldn’t keep warm. Absolute garbage service . Total trash . Spend your money elsewhere . These lot aren’t worth a penny .

I have never had worse customer service. My car broke down at 7.30pm. After leaving me, a solo female traveller, alone for 5 hours, without access to a bathroom or sanitation, they then said they don’t have enough tow trucks and the earliest my car could be collected would be 5am. I had to leave my car key with the local petrol station, and make my own onward journey. My car only arrived at its designated destination two days later. When I found the RAC and asked where my car was during this time, they were unable to tell me. They said it was with a trusted provider and was either in Milton Keynes or Northampton. To this day, they still are unable to tell me where they stored my car. Their customer service team ignored my messages, and then said they would uphold the complaint but offer no compensation. I found the whole process insulting and if I could give them zero stars, I would. I would be embarrassed to work for this company.

Shocking left sat at the roadside for over 5 hours with disabled passenger. Not a single call from the RAC to check on disabled passenger.

Car broke down on the side of a country road with a flat battery. After informing the RAC I am type 1 diabetic, they put me to the top of the priority list, and said they would arrive in a few hours. A few hours go by, I check the website and I see they had moved my expected time to another +2 hours. Another hour goes by, I check the website and again another +2 hours had been added. At this point 6 hours had gone by, I had to eat my emergency food for the diabetes. I canceled the service, called another breakdown cover, and they arrived in 30 minutes. This was the only time I had to use my breakdown cover with the RAC and I will not be using this provider again. You have lost faith and business with this experience.

Paid the rac to have a repair at my home (two ignition coils) since then my car has been cutting out. Left me sat here for two days without a call out now they think I should pay £75 for a call out for a problem that wasn’t there before?! Seems totally wrong to me. I was with the rac for years on another policy under a family policy and recently got my own beginning of the year, I just feel rather baffled that I’m getting told I’ll be charged?! When I’ve already paid for a repair that was meant to resolve it.

After paying my cover for 24 years without needing RAC , i broke down on a motorway , called them 6.30pm , they said 45 minutes, they kept putting timeframe back i was stranded in the pitch black darkness for over 6 hours as they turned up at 1am , rude uncaring call centre every time i called , which was every hour as nobody contacted me to say anything, dreadful stressful experience, and would not recommend to anyone, i definitely will not renew my cover , ive asked for somebody high up to call me , but as i thought , that call has not happened, absolutely disgusting service

They left us stranded and didn't even apologise after 18 years with them told us 9 hours to come to 2 disabled people absolutely disgusting if you dont believe check rac on YouTube will be joining the aa

I had to wait 4 hours for a patrolman to arrive and then another hour for a spare wheel to be collected. This was in rain and cool weather conditions. I have received an apology but I am so disappointed on how early on a Saturday morning there are too few staff to respond to customers.

Don’t even deserve a 1 star. Absolutely terrible service. They think it’s acceptable to leave a woman and a disabled child waiting for almost 6 hours with a flat battery. Disgraceful service. God forbid you show frustration any excuse to refuse service and cancel the job. Will NEVER EVER use again. I got AA cover in the time I was waiting for the RAC. The AA arrived l within the hour got the car started in minutes. Shame on you RAC.

19/09/2025 - 4 hour wait - no services Day one - 2300 to 0300 hrs Unable to make contact by phone Completed form online Advised wait time 2-3 hours. Weather was good. No major traffic issues. Phoned RAC after 3 hours. Told I was given incorrect waiting time and the average waiting was 4 hours. At 0300 hrs - After waiting in my car for over 4 hours, I was told that no mechanics or recovery vehicles were available. Had to return home in a taxi. Day two - 3 hour wait RAC phoned to advise me to return to my car at 1030 to meet mechanic. Immediately returned to car by taxi. No mechanic present Phoned RAC - told no booking on system. After 4 further phone calls mechanic arrived. Waited 3 hours. Example of poor service Phoned RAC asked for call to be escalated and for a manager to return my call. Advised manager not available but one would call me shortly. Asked when this would be there. Told manager was at lunch - at 11:22. !! Never received call back. Phoned RAC At least 10 times to resolve issue. Each operator gave me a different story. The staff were incompetent. One rep said they would transfer me to customer service. They transferred me back to main menu. After a few rings, received message - line closed. Don’t be fooled when they tell you that the call will be escalated. - it wint. The wait time remains unchanged This was the worse customer experience in my life and I am 67 years old. Avoid this organisation at all costs.
