30 minutes to get through on phones, they want everything to be done online. Had to wait 7 hours for a mobile mechanic to attend. RAC kept changing expected arrival time. Cancelling membership.

DO NOT USE RAC DO NOT USE RAC - especially for Motorhome/ Caravan cover. We broke down 8 hours from home, vehicle wouldn't start. RAC towed us to a local garage, within 2 days the garage said they couldn't help, it needs to be towed to a Nissan specialist. We called RAC to get it towed to our home by a Nissan specialist, they said that while the car was in the garage they towed it to, it's MOT ran out (two days ago) and they cant tow a car without MOT. We can't get an MOT as the car wont start. We can't get RAC to tow as they wont without MOT. So our £26k car and motorhome (our second home) has been stranded 8 hours from home for 5 months. We're completely stuffed as we cant afford a tow. It's literally created a critical circumstance for our life and the complaints department don't care.

Waited a long time for recovery and when i was I was charged an additional £179 They took almost 3 hours and took over the road and were very noisy Very disruptive and a lot of conplaibts from neighbours I have been a customer for 13 years and receiving this invoice was very annoying as I didn’t know if the additional charge.

Contacted RAC at 12.10pm and was sent a link to fill in details on my mobile. Second call was to ask for £40 for a call out charge !!! Several messages came on my phone to say how busy they were. Eventually I received a call to say they were on there way to my car and gave a Teesside address an address where we had travelled from which was incorrect I had broken down at York. The driver said he would have to get in touch with the Yorkshire area office as he was based at Teesside, so I was back to square one !!! Another call came to say sorry for their mistake and that i had given the correct York address and they would be there ASAP. I had mentioned several times that we were two ladies on our own aged 77 and 86 and could they now class this problem as URGENT. When at last the RAC car mechanic turned up and looked at my car he could not do a repair so he forwarded a message on his tablet for the car to be transported back home to Teesside. When i asked if he could put on his tablet this matter was urgent we were 77/86 frozen and no toilets and said we had been waiting for hours he said " I cant do that, you just have to wait till the transporter gets here and left. The transporter came at 17.18 p.m he was from an Independent company and looked after us so well great service. Put the heater on full blast to thaw us out. So this was a terrible experience, it took from the first contact at 12.10 to 17.18 when the transporter turned up. The service was poor and mistakes were made (incorrect address) so NO I will not be using the services of the R A C ever again.

Broke down at 7.15pm. Logged call with RAC. Estimated time for 2 hours. ETA changed to 8.15pm. Changed again to 9.15pm. Changed again to 9.45pm - no sign at 9.50pm so I called them to be told, there is 8 breakdowns in front of me, even though I have already been waiting almost 3 hours. My new estimated time is 4am. Also, that was for an RAC van to attend even though I explained the car was not fixable and a lorry was required. Sending a van first is policy apparently. I was broken down in a deserted road in heavy rain and was expected to stay with car for 10+ hours and counting. My battery would have died, so I’m not sure how they planned on communicating. Eventually gave up and abandoned car. The length of wait is not acceptable but the higher issue is the continual changing of an estimated time which would have allowed me to make plans. Shocking service. I will be cancelling and making sure nobody I know joins. It’s not the first time this is happened either. Lost all trust.

Distressing situation - constantly change arrival time been waiting since 7:30 am It’s 1:40pm and now they’ve updated to 7 at night - which will probably change again Try the AA in future this is Not worth paying for a policy and is not consistent with their plan of it being within 60 minutes Seriously upset and it hasn’t even been resolved yet .

Horrible service, left 7 hours by the roadside for a patrol to turn up and say he can’t take me and the car home as he doesn’t have enough driving hours. No one looked at the car as it was a simple problem was left on a dark country road till 5am the next morning absolutely the worst service ever

Patrols are Great but the attendance time and sheer lack of communication is shocking. The last 2 times my ETA links times have jumped all over the place forward and backwards and as I had to get back to my vehicle I missed the patrol once and was running back and forth. Last night I ordered a slot 8-12 for a patrol to come out and change my battery I bought 5 weeks ago that an RAC garages confirmed it’s on its way out. My text at 7.30am said they would be with me shortly. After no communication at 11am I rang to be told 2pm now. I have to get to work ! I could’ve gone this morning had I had proper communication. It's gone right down hill, people can’t just sit around for 8 hrs waiting for the RAC when you have been given a 3 hr slot. And worse no communication !! I will be moving as soon as

I broke down last night on a deserted street in an industrial estate, I am a woman travelling alone, my sister called the RAC at 9pm but no one arrived Eventually I had to abandon the car and my sister called a taxi for me which was approximately 11:30pm We both made several calls and I was told a manager would call me back within 60 minutes and I am still waiting for the call Absolutely appalling service, unsafe practices, irresponsible behaviour Buyer beware!!!

Booked before 2pm. Could have picked another service but timeslot given as between 3-5pm. Time creeps up and up. At 6:35pm when you check again, the new ETA is between 8am - 12pm the next day. Female on her own. Helplines closed. The company is a joke.

Very disappointed with this company, paying for the first class service they promised! Waiting over 6 hours to be told they had nobody in the area, they sent a garage from over 2 hours away that broke down on the way to me. I will be looking for a new break down service ASAP.

3 days now since car engine went - I was babysitting and 15 miles from home.car still at babysitting as every time I tried to get to it at same time as RAC window, they’d add on 3/4 hours to the time, I know I’ll need a tow truck. I’m now going to try to find someone privately to take it home for me so I can at least get it off the babysitting clients driveway! You’re just rubbish RAC. Embarrassing!

Hit a massive pothole at around 6pm in Fife. In the car was myself and my 3 year old son. Contacted RAC and included that I was stuck with a 3 year old in the car. At this time of year it was dark at 6pm. An hour passed and still no confirmation on when RAC would reach me. Had to call a family member to come and collect son. 12am came around and I still had no confirmed time. Ended up joining the AA as a van had passed and stopped asking if I was ok. He got me sorted in about 30 mins. Id never recommend the RAC to anyone.

Had a tyre burst in Jedburgh contacted Rac at around 21.00hrs and they never came just sent texts till 23.30 to say they were extremely busy. We called them several times and they continued to pass me on to Mercedes Benz. They booked a courier different times with the taxi to carry us home since it was a Saturday into Sunday morning. The 24hrs response came at around 03.30 am to collect the car to the storage and taxi was booked for 05.20am suggesting almost 2hrs of us waiting in the cold in the middle of early hours of the morning for the taxi in the dark and cold. The 24hrs response driver was not prepared to wait coz of his own reasons and was suggesting I leave the car keys at a garage nearby or under the car tyre so that when he comes they will tour the car which was uncomfortable for me and I told him and he left saying the car won't be toured because he could not wait until taxi comes because RAC and Mercedes could not give a specific ETA. We spent almost 9hrs because we where in a rural area and not same priority since allocation was done by priority. They guy we spoke to even suggest that we went back to where we were coming from so we wait for taxi there, which was in Edinburgh. I suggested I wont leave the keys with anyone who is not the recovery person or under the tyre as suggested since it was not 100% and the guy we spoke to stated that the car had to be attended and toured with specialist equipment without the keys. The taxi came at 0645 instead of 05.20. The whole experience was disgusting. Paying for Rac roadside recovery for so many years only to be treated with less priority for 9hrs. Four women were left vulnerable, in the cold for 9 hrs!!
