Avoid at all costs! If I could give 0 I would. Appalling service. Considering you pay for a service for security and peace of mind, the RAC caused more distress and financial loss. Tried to dispute a claim as they said we didn’t have cover to get us home. However we did have this cover. They will not refund us spent £500 to get vehicle back home and was very stressful. Do not recommend.

When it takes 7 hours for a patrolman to come you have plenty of time to do some research. Saw this https://www.whatcar.com/advice/owning/which-is-the-best-breakdown-service/n1215 review on what whatcar which basically says RAC is most expensive and slowest recovery service. My personal experience is 4 out of 4 recoveries in 20 years have taken over 4 hours. Finally decided to move. Why didn’t I go 19 years ago

It's very very bad experiences It's very very bad experiences, I called them for my car , and they said sorry we can't come today, they said book for tomorrow. Very bad service. I don't recommend them definitely

Broke down around 1pm, Conwy. Called RAC, which couldn't find a local technician, so the job wasn't recorded for around 40 minutes. We were then given a time estimation, 4:40-5:40. At 4:40, this came through as an updated, which had changed to estimation between 8:40 -11:20. We called RAC to inform them we were with a child. They said they'd make a note. Very automated responses from customer service, who didn't appear to be bothered. We weren't asked this when reporting our break down. The time then changed again, making out it would be sooner, more like 8:30-9:30 (pm) and changed again later to 10:00-2:00 (roughly) The system is clearly beyond a joke. Rang to complain and speak to a manager. Was told this can only be done online. I persisted and customer service rep went to speak to a manager, who did not talk with me but said they'd ring back (never did) RAC rang at 9:49 to ask if we were ok to wait for recovery at 7 am (are they kidding!?) Husband explained we needed a recovery truck suitable to tow a van home and reminded them we have a young child with us. We were told a third company would contact this to get us home, after my husband was firmer with them and refused to be fobbed off. I called to make a complaint as it was 10:30 pm and we still hadn't been called. It was suggested that I make a complaint online. I asked to speak to a manager but was told they'd all gone home and it was out of hours. Another fob off. I expressed how unhappy I was about the whole process and that I wanted to speak to a manager and customer service said they'd record this and request an out of hours manager to call. Recovery van (small one) from a third party showed up at 10:50 pm and asked if we had a flat battery. Poor note keeping and communication from RAC as that was clearly not the case and we made this clear several times on the phone and also when reporting the breakdown and stating within the additional information that the battery is not flat. The battery is not the issue. The recovery has managed to help to start the van (thankfully, in some ways) but this has caused anxiety about if we will get home safely. A recovery truck should have turned up at the very least to ensure my son's safety getting home, especially after being stuck in the same place for over 9 hours. RAC vehicle tracker didn't even find the correct location we were in. We joined the AA today. RAC - never again. A compare on chat GPT will tell you that. Poor customer service. Long, long wait times. When you break down you don't want to wait this long and there is no priority for people with children.

I have been waiting since this morning at 9am to 9.20pm for RAC breakdown but they didn’t come at all. 9.20 pm they have sent me messages Your assistance for my Vehicle has been rescheduled to tomorrow. A patrol will arrive between 07:00-12:00. You'll get an update when they're on the way. This is ridicules and unacceptable. If anyone think to buy RAC breakdown cover, remember you will regret for ever.

No one came. Still waiting 12+ hours. Seems to be a lot of staff in customer services and not many recovery vehicles out. Waited for 4 hours in my vehicle. After numerous phonecalls, I finally accepted that no one was coming, despite all the positive texts and operators saying they'll be there when they can etc. I had to walk miles home past midnight. No one cares. Absolutely useless. I feel really let down. I never had this problem with AA or Green flag, I only changed to get a multi car cover. I can't even be bothered to write an official complaint. It won't be read and it'll be a waste of my time.

Had RAC out to do a comprehensive inspection that cost me >£300 the end of last year. My car unfortunately broke down recently and has been in the garage where they discovered that the bumper is ZIP TIED ON and this was not picked up whatsoever at the inspection. The complaint has been closed as they "expected it to be picked up at the inspection" when the whole point of the complaint was that it wasn't picked up.

I have been waiting 10 hours SO FAR for a tow truck to arrive. I've been stranded since noon today and it's now 10.00pm with no update on when a truck will arrive. Absolutely appalling service. Do not use RAC!!!!

My policy has increased & been renewed automatically, I am unable to turn the automatic setting off on the app as it has a padlock icon next to it. Tried to ring them a couple of times, but couldn’t get through as they were extremely busy and automated message said to ring back. Even if you had broken down the message said to fill a form in to get help!! I sent them a query through and they’ve offered to reduce the premium by £19 per month otherwise I’ll have to pay a £48 cancellation fee to leave. So much for being a loyal customer!

We are having an awful experience with RAC Breakdown Recovery. Our campervan broke down 100 miles from home while pulling into a campsite. It turned out to be a serious gearbox failure, so recovery was clearly required. A rescue unit came the next day, confirmed it needed recovery, and assured us there would be space for our family of four on the recovery lorry. Since we were camping for 3 days, we booked the recovery for our leaving day. When the lorry arrived, the driver said they could only take two passengers. This completely contradicted what we were told earlier and left us scrambling to organise an emergency taxi with the onward travel team for two adults and two small children — an incredibly stressful end to what should have been a relaxing trip. If we had been told the truth when booking, we could’ve planned accordingly. To make matters worse, our van was collected at 12:00 on Monday, and despite being told it would be back the same day, we heard nothing. I called RAC multiple times — at 5pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. Each time I was promised a callback. None came. Eventually, I received a call and a text message saying the van had been left at a service station and was being transferred to a long-distance agent. I called again on Tuesday at 18:20, only to be told it’s with “national recovery” and could take 3–5 working days — something that had never once been mentioned previously. Our campervan contains valuables and bikes mounted on the back, and now we’re left completely in the dark — no one can tell us where it is, when it’s coming back, or whether it’s safe. This experience has been frustrating, upsetting and completely lacking in the professional service you’d expect from a national breakdown provider. The communication has been appalling, promises have been broken, and we’ve been left feeling completely let down.

On my renewal day I noticed my premium had increased by 30 % ,and renewed automatically, and I was told I couldn't be reimbursed the full amount taken out of my bank when I decided to cancel my membership. I would be charged £25 I think. On the renewal day , unbelievable. I got a better level of cover for half the price with another company. I will never use RAC again. It's just legalised theft .

Disgusting service. Don’t ever buy European cover with rac. They left myself and my 10 year old son stranded on the side of the road after taking our vehicle to a lock up unit. They apparently couldn’t find us accommodation. We had to try to get to an airport in the middle of a foreign country and pay for an emergency flight ourselves. They then refused to even diagnose our vehicl le and twisted everything I said on the first call I made to them when I was extremely stressed and stranded on the side of the road. They did nothing to help us at all. Absolutely disgusting don’t buy their cover it will not help you if you need it!

Absolute appalling service from RAC. Waited 5 hours & they don’t turn up, just keep adding another couple of hours on. There should be a law against companies like this taking peoples money & not providing a service.

Called for a breakdown at 2pm two kids in the car one’s autistic. The car is under motability scheme so not my choice to be with these cowboys! It’s now 8pm they haven’t come they just called me to see if they can come at 7 in the morning the cars not even by my house. I’ve had to get a taxi home with my kids it’s hot and they expect u to wait with the car this long! They are disgusting! There is no way I can get back over there for 7 so my cars just stuck there now till god knows when I can’t get over the service and how motability still use them!

Absolutely horrific service! Wife’s car had a flat tyre at home which would not hold air with no spare wheel , so called the RAC out. They came 5 days later and took the wheel off and propped it up against a recently rendered wall , which left a huge dirty mark on the wall! Made worse by the technician then trying to get it off the wall with a dirty rag and making it worse! All viewable on the external house cameras! Technician then left the property without telling us of the damage to the wall! Sent a complaint to RAC and still not heard anything back!

My Daughter is currently parked up in the middle of nowhere and stranded having now been there for 5 hours and now being told she’s not going to be recovered tonight. Young female alone in countryside in dark with little phone signal - absolutely appalling service. I can’t help as 6/7 hrs away. Will be cancelling our family policy!
