“I emailed Arnold clark via autotrader website on Saturday 26 september 2020 re a Mercedes car. On Sunday morning i received a call to ask if i wanted to view the car, i agreed a time of 1pm. I further received a call from sales manager Steve Nile to confirm my appointment at 1pm. Further to that i received a call from Nichola Maclean to confirm my appointment at 1pm. This appointment was made due to corona virus regulations.
I turned up at 1pm to be sold the car was sold. I was raging, as taking the time to arrange an appointment and drive to London rd Glasgow, this was a considerable waste of time. When i returned home, i called Steve, however he has still to return my call. I emailed Eddie Hawthorne who is CEO, again, and has yet not bothered to reply. Avoid these time wasters like the plague. I would not buy a light bulb now from this outfit and will deter my family for doing the same.”
“I got a Corsa back in June. With in minutes of driving off from Arnold clark the clutch was playing up. It was being pulled down and I was having to bring the clutch back up with my foot, not only that the gears where clunking and having to be forced in to gear.
Furious over this, I rang them soon as I got home to take it back. The car gets a look over and they tell me there is absolutely nothing up with it.
Booked it back in for them just to do a fluid change.
Drove away and it was still happening, Booked back in for them to eventually tell me yes it needs a few parts.
Gets a new clutch, pedal, slave cylinder, master cylinder and got knows what else.
Finally get my car back after weeks of waiting ...
The gears where smooth again but only for a few days, they started to clunk again. I left it for a bit as no further problems other than the clunking happened.
As a couple of weeks passed the gears started struggling to go in again, the clunking got worse having to force gear change again.
This wasn't happening constantly just now and again but I got it booked back in and explained the same problem is back. They kept it in took it for a drive and said there was nothing up with it.
I explained it doesn't happen every time you change gear time but it's happening and it will get worse.
But as it didn't happen for them they sent me away. I was furious as I new it would end up back to square one, which it did.
Today I was driving on a busy road and my car for the past few weeks had mainly been struggling to go into 3rd gear, so in the space of a very short journey it happened around 5 times, it wont go all the way in to 3rd gear which was causing the car to judder, it would not come back to 2nd it was completely stuck in between gears, I had just got on to a 40mph road I had cars flying past me and I was coming to a stop!
Eventually got home in one piece. Called Arnold Clark (Liverpool) explained what happened, she booked it in with a GearBox specialist next Thursday and said she will have him drive it.
As I explained each time it's been in it does not happen on every gear change so if they take it for a drive and it doesn't happen your assuming it's fine!!! It needs fixing asap.
If my car comes away with one more problem or this one isn't fixed by next week there will a claim being put against you as you are putting me, my son and others at risk! The amount of times I've had to stop on main roads as the gears wouldn't go in and get lodge its ridiculous, a car or lorry anything could of went in to us.
The customer service has been awful I've been made out to be a liar or that I can't drive, bear in mind this has also happened to my dad driving the car who is 2nd driver, been driving over 30 years and has a driving job, also happened to my partner so I'm guessing they can't drive or their lying aswel.
To top it off I still havent got my spare key either which I've been constantly chasing up since I got the car.
Can't stress my frustration any more I'm done with this place, they've got one last chance to fix it, properly or you will be hit with a claim against you.
Terrible customer service
Dodgy cars
Not a bit bothered about you or the car just want the money”
“Paid £95 for transport and was told it would not be driven down for it to come from one arnold clark to another chesterfield arnold clark. According to my papet work it states that it would be 5 miliage on the car. The video I got sent of my (new) car said 7 miles i was fine with this. However when I went to collect the car it had another 43 miles on it which we was not happy as we are paying for a new car and it stated 5 on the mileage.”
“Sales predators. don't waste your time. Never give your details name, address, postcode until you finalise the price. They manipulate the price based on the given info”
“customer service is atrocious steer clear. one of there mechanics from the body shop even said to me " i wish they would just sell sraight cars". Told by Ben at Preston body shop car had been in accident and not repaired correctly. Then asked to take it to St Helens branch were it was confirmed by Dale there had been a repair to the rear end, but the repair was within tolerance. After spending nearly £15000 on a car i then asked becase the car had accident damage if they would at least replace the tyres which were all cracked, car was then booked in for a day only to be told" The sales team won't authorise the replacment of the tyres as they weren't an MOT failure". I explained that i wished for them to be replaced not because of the mot failure but to compensate for selling me an accident damaged car. The sales manager just said "Ive done nothing wrong". I took out a 2 year MOT and service plan to which I have asked for a refund as i would not trust there work. Constant lies in my opinion, steer well clear and go to motorpoint.”
“My experience of Arnold Clark has been appalling from start to finish. 10000% would not recommend, in fact if I could sit outside the shop and tell people not to go in, I would. They are rude, unhelpful, money grabbers who's customer service is none existent. They sell faulty cars and carry out shoddy repairs. Absolute band of crooks. Do not trust.”
“I will never buy another car from Arnold Clark, car is 20 months old, bonding coming apart on front grill, called their sales manager to discuss, long story short, as car was used Arnold Clark will not repair, the car was pre registered to Arnold Clark sales manger never out of there hands, sold as standard vehicle, turns out, the grill is from an upgraded vehicle non standard part and I should have known this when I bought it, surely Arnold Clark should have declared they changed it, which he denied, so ford won’t fix, Arnold Clark won’t fix, he even suggested that I could have done it, when car was advertised with this grill, never dealt with such dishonest people, will never buy another car from this bunch”
“Bought a used car from West Brom branch on 13th July 2020.
Paid a deposit. Finance accepted. Discovered a few days later that the vehicle needed some parts and there would be a delay. Long story short.....the car has still not been delivered! SIX WEEKS LATER! The car left West Brom, got as far as Stoke, and was left there for almost a week. Meantime, I had liaised with my local branch who said my car was there for collection.....only to be called back ten minutes later to be told that the car actually WAS NOT there, it was still in Stoke because NO ONE knew how to operate the ghost alarm. The branch don't want to know. The customer service department don't want to know either! They have agreed to refund the delivery charge !!! The refuse to offer any other compensation - my phone bill is likely to be around
£ 100 after all the calls I have had to make. Lie I said to them, as a gesture of goodwill, and for the inconvenience I have suffered, the least they could do was offer me a refund for the service plan I took out with them? Absolutely NOT!! Absolute cowboys. Stay away.”
“Arnold Clark Lenzie a complete waste of my time and effort. I had been thinking about a newer car since before lockdown. Decided would try here as close to house and can go at my leisure go on Monday 10th August and have a quick look then get talking with sale team.
I see a car I like and get a test drive in similar model then back to discuss figure- usual low ball offer for my own but this improves and get to where I think is Ok for me so happy days. Point out the front wheel has been kerbed so they agree repair as part of sale. AM happy with this.
We will have car ready by Wednesday 12th or Thursday 13th at latest.
So on Wednesday 12th get a call at work around 2pm to say we won't have car ready for tomorrow now lost the V5. SO what happens now well we will apply for new one and will be good to go on 17th oh and hope you haven't swapped your insurance over as might have to ho back to yours. Luckily I hadn't so say OK but had a nagging doubt.
Finish work do a quick check and see a warning no V% don't buy it from DVLA themselves. A little digging with DVLA and see a warning can't guarantee turn around in usual 5 days due to COVID.
So why would a dealer who is involved daily with DVLA not know this.
I try and call dealership from 7-8pm that night but phone just rings out even though so go to online customer services and leave my desire to cancel as no V5 don't buy.
So get a call on 13th around 11:30 whilst at work with a voicemail left to call back and will explain it's not what DVLA say it is. Well given you don't seem to know who would I trust DVLA or you?
Call back later and speak with sales team am advised we will have this by 17th. Well am assuming you seen DVLA warning can't guarantee this so advised well it might be Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday or later. Well 5 working days gets you to 19th at earliest given no guarantee and post is slower just now not so sure. Well we don't want you stressed or feeling pressured - I'm not just think this is a farce and too Arthur Daley like, had decided not going ahead and want deposit returned.
Well change in tone is remarkable where am treated like I've just been stepped on. Well my manager was going to give you a full tank of petrol. Given paid for 3/4 of this as part of deal was suitably underwhelmed. No I'm going elsewhere and just return my deposit thanks don't need this headache. Your own contract agreement said 13th at latest not maybe one day next week or next week again.
Why would trust you if you lose vital document what else don't you get right, glad it wasn't brakes, tyres or something vital on car.
Am off to somewhere where they give a damn and get basic stuff right.”

“Put a deposit on a used car a fortnight was told to come in to collect it a week later as it was "ready"..
Arrived at the Hyundai garage in Inverness, only to be told the cleaner could not open the drivers door..
Due to an alarm issue, they had to replace the door bolts. But rather than replace them with the correct bolts they decided and I quote " a bolt is a bolt" and stuck any old bolt on it resulting in the door jamming.. This was a week ago and still no contract from them..
I do have a demo car that I had to stomp and shout to get.. But as for information coming from them... None...
The car is costing me 5k.. So it's classed as a budget car..
My advice to you is Arnold Clark only want to close a deal for the money... And if you are looking for a car 5k or less, you need not expect good customer service..”
“Chose a Vauxhall mokkq, wasn't ready when they said it would be, kept getting fobbed off for 2 weeks! rang Vauxhall dealers where the car was who told who the car had accident damage.salesman knew but didn't tell us. Luckily we got out of the deal before committing.feel really down trodden by this company.”
“Went into Arnold Clark Dumfries to look at Mercedes b class today30th car was filthy badge was stuck on with insulating tape guy went to get salesman so I left swiftly”
“Dropped my car off at my local Arnold Clark on a Sunday evening after being recovered by Green Flag. Tensioner was faulty and the drive belt had snapped. Returned to the garage this morning to organise getting the car booked in only to be told they would not be able to even have a look at it until September 7th. Staff member's attitude was very poor and she was very rude indeed. She said that I could leave it with them and they may or may not be able to look at it before that date. She asked what was the issue and after telling her she said I would need to pay £130 upfront for diagnostics. After informing her what the issue was and assuring her there was no damage to the engine she said that I would need to pay another £100+ for an engine check. I called an independent garage who recovered my car for me, carried out the job in a matter of hours and charged me £170 for all work and parts.
I dread to think how much my bill would have been from AC, do not use this company!!”
“Sales people are rude and won't leave you alone to look at cars.
The chav salesman at the Huddersfield branch would not go away so I did, he lost a potential sale.”
“Sold a two year service plan only to discover my new fiesta only needed a service every 2 years / 18000miles. The service document Invoice was vague and unclear and not sure whether the oil filter, oil change, or brake fluid were changed. Not confident and seeking an independent assessment as to whether it’s been done. Will update shortly”
“Bought a car with a 2 year service /mot package. Year 1 car passed its MOT but apparently needed a lot of work done , over £1000 , work which included new tyres as apparently mine were perishing. Took car to my own local mechanic and told only 1 item was urgently needed done - less than £100 and that tyres would last me at least another 3 to 4 months. Went back after 4 months - nope tyres still good - those tyres were eventually replaced 9 months after AC told me they needed done.
This year - 2nd service/mot - car fails mot due to unsecure exhaust - quoted over £900 ( for manufacturer part), also told I had an oil leak from driveshaft. Take car again to my own local mechanic - he says oil leak is almost non existant and doesnt need touched. Exhaust - welded no need to replace and MOT redone - PASS. Cost including VAT and MOT £92 !!!!!!!
Absolute rip off lying shower of ***** I will never use AC for anything again and i'm making sure I tell as many people as possible - they have been getting away with this for too long”
“Google won't allow this review for some reason. I've taken my car for its service/MOT to a Vauxhall dealership for around 10 years. Why? So that my Lifetime Warranty would be maintained. Paid more than I would have at other garages. It passed the MOT without any issue in 2019. Last Saturday, the wishbone snapped while my son was driving it. He was lucky he didn't get killed. The provisional diagnosis - rotten sub-floor or frame (can't remember which he said). How on earth did it go from a pass to rotten in 9 months? I heard today that's it's a known fault........
I work for the nhs and thought I'd write to their CRS department to enquire about a free hire car for nhs staff. They say allow 4 working days, which I did. No reply. So I thought we'd do a wee social experiment. They were polite and very quick to reply when the name was Anglo-Saxon, not so polite when the name is not Anglo Saxon. Lack of diversity training perhaps?”
