The CarFax was helpful and it would be a great selling tool to the used car dealers to offer for free...It helped us get our money back from a dealer that kind of" misled" us on the mileage, claiming he got the car at an auction and was "unaware" of the difference...Thanks!!!

I have owned two of three of these vehicles since we bought them new so I already knew their history. Just wanted to see the carfax report. I thought the report would include at least major mechanical issues, but it did not. If I was buying another car I don't think I could depend on Carfax's history report covering all the issues. And, on the third car it reported that the speedometer wasn't right and it was all in red, stating a violation. It was only off by a few hundred miles which was an obvious oversight on the part of the technician that tried doing the last vehicle inspection report. Maybe he looked at it wrong or wrote it down wrong or something. I would have appreciated them telling me how to get this corrected. I was a bit disappointed. If I had not already known their history, I probably would have been satisfied with it. ( :

If all info is true, how many owners , no accidents that's some of the details I was looking for. Last time I purchase a caxfax the info was not correct.. It showed no-accidents, but 2-mths later it showed an accident on the car I purchase.. So, carfax are not up to date at times when you purchase..

Honestly, I tried CarFax for the first time to find out a little more info on an older Mercedes that I was considering purchasing, specifically trying to verify the mileage. Unfortunately, CarFax had next to nothing on this car regarding accidents, repairs, or mileage. I don't regret the money spent. I just wish that I could have obtained a little more data.

The searching was great and the original information was very help full in finding the right truck. How ever this is where the story takes a turn for the worse. I have an extended warranty and after making a claim to the warranty companey The denied my claim saying Carfax shows a branded title, (odometer exceeds mechanical limits). I contacted Carfax and was advised after a very long delay that it would stay on the report until "I" fixed the issue with CA department of motor vehicles (DMV). The branded title did not show up until after I purchased the vehicle and I did not send anything to DMV saying the odometer exceeds mechanical limits. After e-mailing a rep. from Carfax and pointing out that the vehicle in question has a 6 digit odometer and if it had "rolled over then the truck would have over 1 million miles on it. Yes according to Carfax I'm driving a truck with over 1 million miles, 1,000,000 miles! The disclaimer on the report says the branded title for exceeds mechanical limits is for when vehicles with a 5 digit odometer has gone past 100,000 miles. So at 99,999 then it turns back to 00,000 and starts over. I pointed this out to the rep from Carfax and they did not care! It even says it may be a clerical error but when a request is made to fix it they refused. The report says to lower the value of the vehicle because of the miles/ branded title. So now thanks to a report that they will not change, I'm stuck paying for a repair that would have been covered under my warranty and a vehicle that is worth less if you believe the truck has over 1 million miles. A little common sense can go a long way. Carfax offers a good service but it is not gospel. Look and see if the vehicle has been in a major crash or has open recalls, ect..... So do not believe everything you read on the report. Mistakes can be made.

I purchased a preowned BMW M5 earlier this year, which apparently had some bodywork done to it due to previous minor body damage. I pulled both, carfax & autocheck reports but none of them had any incident reported. Regardless of the history reports, I did buy the vehicle & found out the fact that only if an incident is reported to police, insurance, agency or dmv, it will show on the history reports. Otherwise there's no guarantee that what you're getting has 100% history events reported.

Some dealers say they offer a car fax and repair report with every vehicle they sell but even while just browsing the dealership online i found the car fax info on the vehicles even before going to visit them. I was pleasantly surprised as i assumed you only got that info after starting to deal. I ended up buying from a dealership that did not offer free car fax reports but bought one instead. Similar to the famous "TRUST BUT VERIFY" quote. I verified the info the dealership gave me instantly rating the company as well as the vehicle; it did alert me of a recall and other info i was not aware of that showed the depth of the dealership as just a facilitator. However, the fox mascot is old like the old Taco Bell dog. Taco Bell had the sense to lose it and move forward while still benefitting from the recall factor. Car buying is no joke, at least your mascot hasn't defined the entire quality and caliber of what your company offers as a consumer advocate. Think "FACTS" not fax or fox...don't fall into the trap of still trying to make a gecko cute/funny and lose he opportunity to provide valuable info about your company I was unaware existed. To think i would want to win a stuffed animal seems juvenile not light and an insult to the intelligence of serious, cautious, educated consumers. But, a gimmick is a gimmick, dog, fox, gecko, whatever. There is so much clutter,... a man and woman buying cars for their entire family should be complimented for being smart consumers. Will you start poking and tickling it next like pillsbury? I would love you save the day with "FACTS" in a world of gimmicks, lies, and advertising spins. We know the company exists,,, GROW your image not make fun of it.... you are BETTER than I imagined after using you digging deeper. I hope you can concentrate on making a consumer feel smarter through a buying process usually detested. They can received the "Facts"and be educated with power without having to divulge it is only because of your company or saying they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. Congratulations on the development/exposure to this point but a person who repeats the same joke over and over is soon laughed at not with. Use the time you spend on the fox making consumers feel smarter...we love compliments about how smart we are! Yes, I own an ad agency, have built and programmed numerous radio stations and other branding/consulting companies across the U.S. and Europe since the late 70's, and I feel obligated to tell a great company that I've watched you grow (via a auto dealer client for 12 years, publicly through marketing, and now recently and most importantly as a direct consumer. IT HAS TAKEN ME 10 YEARS TO BECOME A DIRECT CONSUMER!!! You HELPED me, you were my "easy button" and by digging into your business; I realize you are better than what you are showing us. Share "YOUR" facts with us...we need you to tell us how smart and powerful you make us as auto consumers without the condescending financial institution or health care "we're here for you approach." My apologies for the book... but I was solicited for feedback even if my response is more than you may have wanted.

I was led to believe I purchased the "unlimited" version of carfax... but it is only "unlimited" with license plate numbers, not VIN numbers. The "unlimited" version only gives you the ability to look up five vin numbers. But I was able to look up the one vehicle I was interested in...

Carfax worked great. Too bad the car that we went to look at was completely destroyed. Carfax showed the right mileage but the car looked like it went through a destruction derby. Too bad, glad we got a Carfax vehicle history report though. Thanks again Carfax!
