“Avoid this company, especially Easirent in Eastleigh (Southampton Airpott).
You’ll pay the least initially, this is how they ‘win’ your business. It’s deception, as they run a damage on return scam.
If you’ve taken out a hire and can’t cancel, make sure you spend time looking over the whole vehicle, take pictures and record damage, including the smallest marks and chips.
They will fabricate details when you return the car with regards damage, so protect yourself.
Best advice is to never use them.”
“I prepaid a car, and when I went to pick it up, they said sorry, we overbooked, there's no car. And that's all....I asked them to find me another car, but they don't have any. The customer service was more than ridiculous. The told me: call the agency where I booked the car, and ask them to give me another...it was 11 p.m...still waiting for my refund..it was 2 weeks ago. So I had to found a taxi to reach my destination, and another day another company to hire a car.
My booking number: GB506125870”
“I guess that you may have been offered the cheapest car hire for your trip, it´s so cheap, almost unbelievable, but at the end of the day you will find that you have been charged for the most expensive car hire imaginal, the secret is to read the small print, but who does? you've booked your flights, booked your hotel, booked your car parking or & transfer, who reads the small print? no you don't, you put your trust in the company, but do not trust this company, you will be conned in the most delightful way to hand over your hard earned money for something that you don't understand until it´s too late.”
“Unfair policies, unjust charges, do not use this company.
Summary:
Between inaccurate information, unfair fuel policies, hidden charges, and a ludicrous drop-off charges I STRONGLY advise that nobody use this car hire company.
Location:
They claim to be in Glasgow's Central Station, but are a 25 minute walk from the station. I don't mind a walk, but this might come as an unexpected surprise and I certainly wouldn't classify it as a station rental company.
Fuel Policy:
You have to either take their over-priced tank of fuel, or buy fuel from the local garage AND PROVE IT with a receipt. I have rented cars all over the world and have never come across this kind of insane requirement. Surely fuel is fuel regardless of where it is bought? I was given a nonsense reason of "it might not be full if you fill it far away" which is fine, but I was also told that they'd not accept it if I "topped off" at the local garage and would require receipts from all garages.
This is completely bananas, and made me suspicious of the whole thing, but I proceeded with the hire anyway.
Pick up:
I was given a car, and told it was "immaculate, not a scratch" but sure enough, when I did my walk around (whilst being hurried by the staff member) I found at least 5 obvious scratches. They clearly wanted me to not inspect properly, or hoped I'd not notice.
Drop-off:
Upon drop off I was told that one of the aforementioned scratches had happened during my rental. Despite having highlighted it, the first staff member hadn't noted it down and told me "not to worry about that one". The scratch is barely visible, thinner than a human hair, but still they managed to file it under a charge category which saw me paying £260. It's a case of my word against theirs, but this was a serious case of going by the book, even when it was clearly unfair.
The worst bit is, they won't bother repairing it at all - they never do!”
“I prepaid insurance b4 I left CDN for this rental, to be told upon arrival insurance was mandatory “from them” and it was in the fine print of my reservation what a scam! I would never rent/hire a car from them again! I paid for insurance twice and was not fully disclosed in a format that shows ethical integrity! Trick the consumer model.... 2 thumbs down!”
“IT is more like a scam. Stay away. They are not there to help but to rip-off. They seem to need extra special evidence to prove address and identity which is not made clear while making bookings. Their Customer service should be called Customer Rip-offs.”
“A scrape on the car was talked about at pick up but not noted on the form. 270GBP. This company is not reliable and you cannot trust them.
It's a very cheap car rental on the surface but you will always pay afterwards at drop off”
“Sadly a very poor experience. Charged €225 for a scuffed wheel. The damage was seriously minimal and as I picked up the car in the rain at dusk I am not convinced It was me anyway. Their MO is to charge for damage there and then. Not sure how this can be accurate. The cars from Cork now all have cameras fitted not sure about other branches.”
“An awful experience with the 'hire car' company that goes rather incorrectly by the name of 'Easirent'. Their website is https://www.easirent.com/ and their MD is a Paul Hanley from Liverpool.
I had rented vehicles twice previously from a very well known and reputable company. But on this occasion, I was pushed for time and had work commitments to meet. So I booked a car rental via www.rentalcars.com and they found me the aforementioned company.
On the first day of the rental, I arrived at the designated point for 08:00, according to my booking - Southampton Airport), only to find that the company were not based there at all. They were in fact based around three miles away in Parham Drive, Eastleigh. I was advised that I would be picked up and taken to their office, I was waiting around 25 minutes for this lift to arrive and then sat in rush hour traffic, before eventually arriving at what their driver referred to as "Head Office" around 20 minutes later, I had to jump through a series of hoops, paying for specific things on a debit card and other things on a credit card. But I was promised that I would get £200.00 back from a £287.00 charge. However, I made the mistake of not getting this in writing and it is not detailed in the rental agreement, that I signed with them. Their customer service and work practices left a lot to be desired, such as paying for the fuel in advance.
Eventually, I was able to drive the car away almost 1 and a half hours after the start of the booking time for which I had paid.
Upon, returning the vehicle, there weren't any issues checking out. Although, I did find it a bit odd that they wanted my copy (of the initial carbon checkout of the car) back and I did not get it back.
On the way back to my drop off point, I asked to be dropped at the train station. On the way here, I asked the drive (driving me back in the car I had hired), I asked for confirmation that I would receive the £200 back as promised. The driver was the same person who had picked me up at the Airport 7 days prior. He confirmed that I would and it normally would take 2-3 days, but could take up to 28 days. The 28 days seemed a little strange to me, but I felt too uneasy to question it further at the time.
After a week, I had still not received the £200 back and decided to call Easirent to follow this up. I was told by their branch that the money I had paid was all part of the "insurance towards the car". I challenged the person to which I was speaking regarding this, He became quite defensive initially, before going on to tell me that I had read the contract incorrectly and that no-one would make such a claim that I would get this £200 back. With his comments having inferred I was lying and was further incensed when he was talking over me. The line went dead.
I called back around 20 minutes later, only to find that the branch had closed and was duly transferred to what I was told was their actual head office. The person I spoke to (Tom, I believe) advised me that I was not entitled to any money back and reiterated what the previous person had said with regards to the insurance. After continually talking over me and preventing me from speaking, he eventually hung up on me.
Following this, I did an internet search of the company, only to find an abundance of very poor reviews. Many people have reported the same thing as me. If nothing else, I would like to prevent anymore people from being scammed and/ or conned like I have.
I shall be reporting this company to the trading standards. I do not feel that they have acted in good faith at all and I feel lied to.”
“Terrible car rental company don’t use maybe looks cheap and it actually costs more than the other rental companies. At least the charge you what they show up online. They are con AVOID”
“The Glasgow city store are absolute crooks I checked before booking how much the insurance would be to cut the excess I was told £20 per day then when my husband got there he was conned and told it was £34 per day he paid it not knowing they had conned him into personal liability insurance avoid avoid avoid”
“Employee in person and then employee on the phone said I could have brought the car back later due to their slowness in providing me with a car.
No one mentioned any price to pay on top and I have been “secretly” charged 40€.
Had to check statements to notice it.
Terrible planning at pick up (bank holiday apart) and customer service not transparent”
“Me and my friends rented a car from them for 10 days back in January, we booked a 5 seated car on the website but when we got there there were no 5 seated car available. We were given a 7 seated family car instead and were required to pay £1800 deposit. We were in a rush so did not have time to look for another rental company, so on top of the £1800 we also paid for the rental fees and insurance cover. When we returned the car they refused to return the £1800 as they believed the car had been involved in car accident which it wasn't. I asked them to check their dash cam but they refused, called their customer service and they said we signed an agreement which they have the right to take our full deposit without explanation. I have asked them to provide a full report of the car repairing and they have failed to do so.”
“They stoled me 300 euros. I repeat thousand times that i didnt want kasko or extra insurance. They always said “yes, dont worry”.
When i return in the agency at the end of my holiday they show me the bill with the extra insurance.. unbelievable. AVOID repeat STEAL ME 300 EURO.
Im seeing that 94 % of 1 star on 5 on 600 reviews.. ok im not the only one”
“I’ve delayed writing this as advised until my complaint was finalised....I found out today that it was so this is my honest review of this company. They are scammers and need to be avoided at all costs.
I hired a car from them last December for 10 days from Southampton airport. On collecting the car I was very uncomfortable as I felt very pressured to take out extra astronomical insurance. They kept repeating that if the found even the tiniest scratch when I returned the car I would be charged for it. I had already paid for the car online so when I suggested that maybe I should cancel the agreement I was told I would still be charged as I had entered into the rental time so a refund was unavailable.
I was told that I’d been given an upgrade and asked to go online and give them a 5 star review otherwise his boss would question why I’d been given a free upgrade. I’m not sure whether it was an upgrade but I didn’t give them a review at this point.
Because of the pressure to take the insurance out and being made to feel so uneasy I was so so careful with the car and returned it 10 days later in exactly the same condition as when I collected it. On checking the car over I was informed that the scuffs on the alloys (which had been picked up on the inspection on collecting the car) were worse. I disputed this and wrote that on the paperwork despite the easirent employee writing it was new damage.
When I got home it was no great surprise to see that $479 had been stopped on my credit card. I emailed the company numerous times and got no response. I then read reviews to discover this appears to happen time and time again with this company.
One of the reviews stated that 4 months after the rental there had money taken from the reviewers card for speeding fines that he knew he hadn’t committed. I was worried this would happen so called my card company and explained the situation. They informed me that I could put in a transaction dispute for the money taken. I lodged this and easirent were given time to reply.
Six weeks later I received a reply saying unfortunately the charge stood as I had signed the paperwork and a copy of the paperwork was included for me to see. To my disbelief the paperwork had been altered and damages to a window had been added. I think the alloy claim was probably dropped as maybe they had used this once to often. Easirent would not give me the original and said the photocopier was broken. Thankfully I insisted on taking a photograph of the documentation
I lodged a counterclaim and included the photograph of the original document which was very different to the paperwork that Easirent had submitted to my credit card company. Today I heard that the claim had been found in favour of me and the $479 would be credited back to my account.
PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY. There are many reviews stating similar events. They fraudulently changed the paperwork that I had signed and charged me for damage that wasn’t there.”
