“DO NOT USE EUROPCAR.
Hire car has a small chipped windscreen, was charged $1600 from my credit card without approval for a windscreen that cost $800 (quoted from Obrien Glass).
Absolutely scummy and unprofessional.”
“I purchased full coverage for rental car through QEEQ. It included collision, comprehensive and theft. QEEQ is a third party that finds you the best deal; contract was with them. They signed me up with Europcar. They confirmed the price and the full insurance coverage. I had it in writing. When I got to the airport Europcar claimed my reservation did NOT include collision and comprehensive coverage. I showed them my paperwork that stated otherwise. They would not accept it. We called QEEQ who confirmed we had full coverage. He spoke with the Europcar representative who wouldn't accept this either. The only thing we could do was drive the car without any collision protection or buy collision and comprehensive and collision AGAIN, this time directly through Europcar and grieve the situation when we got home. We did this. Now both companies are blaming the other and no one wants to refund our money. The credit card won't help me either saying it's the other company's fault. I'm out $600 + dollars and have no none who will help me. NEVER ACCEPT A RENTAL CAR FROM A FOREIGN COMPANY!!”
“Rent a car from otopeni at 11 pm night time when we gave the car back they find out a scratch underneath the car 😅 even the stuff didn't check there and the car it was dirty with mud , you can't see the scratch over there in the middle of the night . They tried to keep the deposit 300 euros”
“Muller Rd Bristol.Non existent customer care, staff turn up late 08:15,so there ia a que of people waiting,I was there for an hour just to off hire.Manageress has her baby in the office, make a point of bringing the sproglet with her to deal with untrained staff who can't operate the IT system. Then I get pulled up for damage that was already there. All in all the don't give a damn,as per other comments this company is not for for purpose and a scam”
“Europcar - Naples train station. Dreadful rude service. Woman was frazzled and refused to honour our booking because we did not have an international licence despite another customer who was returning their rental and revealed that they did not have an International licence but had successfully hired a vehicle with the same company. Very disappointing, we will never use this company again and would not recommend their services to anyone.”
“If you're having problems withdrawing money or if you've been duped by a trading platform, go to madacovi.co for help. They helped me get my money back and make a profit in a few days. You can return your complete profit and reimbursement in a few days by taking your proof and evidence to madacovi.co, just like I did.”
“errible Experience - Unhelpful Staff and Faulty System
We had an incredibly disappointing experience with Europcar. Despite having prepaid for our rental car, we were refused the vehicle at the counter due to a soft credit check that supposedly couldn't verify our address. This was clearly a fault in their system, as our address is valid and verifiable.
What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of effort from both the in-person staff and the help center over the phone. No one tried to find a solution or assist us in any way. We received no apologies or acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused.
Our weekend plans were completely ruined as it was impossible to proceed without a car, especially considering it was just before a bank holiday. We didn't have the chance to rent a car from another company at such short notice.
While we were refunded the money we paid, this did not compensate for our ruined plans and the frustration we experienced. The lack of customer service and the reliance on a malfunctioning system is unacceptable. We will not be using Europcar again and advise others to avoid them as well.”
“I cannot believe the horrendous service / to start with, I was given a car which smelled so badly of cigarettes that it made me unwell (not to mention the state of the stained seats and scratched bodywork). I repeatedly tried to contact the branch who never answer their phone, finally I got a call very soon after leaving a 1* review.
I’m now hoping to speak to them again - hopefully they will respond to this review?
After 5 days the car was replaced with another - I didn’t have chance to refuel the car as the replacement arrived at very short notice. However they have now attempted to bill me for the fuel!! This suggests that some other poor person is about the receive that dreadful car!”
“Rushed me to sign the paperwork as there was a big queue, didn't realise the guy had ticked to upgrade the cover and not told me even though I confirmed I only wanted basic cover, con artists will never use again”
“Europcar Billund Denmark is Corrupt, Cheating, Unethical and bad for customers.
Bottom line, this company creates false damage claims and because they are so hard to contest, they get away with murder.
I rented a car in Billund Denmark inside the airport terminal then had to walk a few hundred yards to find my car. During the checkout, they gave me a damage sheet with "ALL" the previously acknowledged damages. Now note that the car had 15,000 kilometers on the odometer so there were hundreds of tiny marks everywhere. Nobody was in the pick-up car area.
LUCKILY, AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BE STANDARD PRACTICE, I WALKED AROUND and videoed the car. Don't take this lightly, as they claimed I damaged their car (paint chip) underneath the front bumper. Yes, this is really true. So video up down, low, from the top, everywhere you can think of.
After returning the car, again with nobody there, they said I damaged the car in an email a few days later. Total BULLCRAP!!! I went to my video and luckily I found this small scratch prior to driving it off the lot. So I replied that I had evidence that the damage was prior to my rental.
Of course, I have not heard back after 5 days of sending my email and after they charged my credit card almost $500 which I am contesting with Chase.
I probably won't hear back (and I cced my email to every Europcar exec I could find) because they were caught red handed in a lie and they are hoping I just go away which I won't without refund and apology and compensation.
Anyway, I am SURE I am not the only one getting scammed by this dishonest company.”
“The worse company ever ! They said my car would be 70 percent electric charged it was 60 percent, I called 5 times to report this error I just kept getting transferred to different people! Mobility gave me this rental . But I rather not drive than the old car they dropped off !”
“I flew to Iberia airport in Costa Rica. I was driven to Europcar/Fox Rental a car. I had reservation there. I spoke to a man named Joal he stated that he has worked there for 3 years. When I showed him my car insurance from USAA and car insurance from my credit card, he said I would have to give him $18,000.00 Yes Eighteen thousand US dollars as a car deposit if I didn't take their insurance. He also asked me for $150.00 cash money if I wanted a lower rate. I have never felt so scammed in my life. Please stay away from this rental car. They are scammers. If you want a car that fits more than a carry on suitcase they will ask you for cash and a credit card for payment. Joal and Alex are not good people. Alex even asked me for a tip for setting my carplay up. Unbelievable but true. I went to other car rental places and they said they had never heard of such a Hugh car deposit. They also charged me $40.00 for an additional driver that never existed.”
“My car broke down 3 times within one week in Costa Rica. 1st the V-Belt broke, then a fuse triggered and last but not least the bolts from the tire broke when trying to unscrew them.
Support from Europcar? None! This will become a legal case as the car was clearly not in an optimal condition as Europcar promoted. In addition there is no support from them at all!”
“We booked on the app to collect from Larnaca Airport, the price on the app was €103, when we got to the kiosk we told we had to pay for full insurance on top of the amount on the app. Had to pay €222 before we got the keys.
Car was badly maintained, clutch was basically shot and the breaks were barely working.
Absolute disgrace - I'm embarrassed to say I used Europcar.”
“Really disappointed in my experience. I arrived at the Europcar desk and submitted my rental booking information which was for the agreed amount of £59. This included unlimited mileage, collision Damage Waiver, Theft Protection, Third Party liability etc which was satisfactory to me.
The gentleman at the desk said that was all in order and asked if I might take a few minutes to register as I had never used Europcar before. I was in a rush but happy to do so.
I was never asked if I wanted premium protection. That it was put on my bill without my consent is completely unsatisfactory. I have never had that happen to me before. When I am asked at a car rental if I want additional insurance I always decline. I have never had the experience of it being put on my bill without being asked. Is that the Europcar policy? I have asked them to clarify that but they have not done so. It is very suspicious practice - although a quick google search shows it has happened to many others
I was told that since it was my first time using Europcar I was being given a free upgrade so i assumed that represented the difference in my paperwork
I was then given a form and told to sign where the x's were.
I do feel that I have been tricked into paying a higher fee. It's not just a few euros, my bill has trippled. I contacted customer complaints who more or less said it was my word against theirs and since I signed the paperwork the case is closed.
Would never use again and would not recommend anyone else does”
“When we returned the vehicle, we had to return it to the unmanned area of the airport, no person their to check the car back in, like when i’ve returned cars in Spain and Portugal, with yourselves. We left the car parked in what we thought was a safe environment and inspected the car on departure.
On returning home, you contacted me to inform me of damage to drivers side bumper, small chip of a stone or something smaller less than 5mm of damage, something we were unaware of. The car park is not tarmac all the way round and is covered with stones. The damage to the vehicle could have been caused; after we returned the car. I have asked for the photos they sent to be time stamped or dated which they have not sent yet! Or acknowledged, Other than an email detailing the cost. We took out extra insurance too! Which doesn’t seem to cover the cost of this. Along with the photo that you are claiming is worth £855.85
Damage management fee of dealing with this £42.94
After looking through lots of reviews it seems to be a common occurrence! Had there been someone at the drop off point, then this damage might have been discovered or even been proven not to be there!
So be careful when hiring from this company, as they could be trying it on, and there is no proof, so I’d recommend video an arrival and when returning the car!”
“cammersThis company are scammers.
My booking confirmation clearly stated the ‘one way fee’ for dropping the car at a different location than I collect it, was included in the quoted price. However they have charged me $55 for a one way fee.
Furthermore, I dropped the car off at Perth airport at 16:00 and the booking confirmation said it had to be back by 16:30.
I handed the keys to a young man who worked for Europcar in the ‘return rental car’ drop off zone, and I thanked him for his nice service. This made my airport checking much faster as I did not have to go to the Europcar desk myself.
Sadly this backfired and he has scammed me by not returning the keys till 17:30. This means I have been charged an additional day hire. I can prove I was on the flight at 17:30 therefore the car was well and truly returned.
They did this on purpose and have scammed me for an extra $106.
Do not use them EVER!
Terrible scammers and customer service is shit

“A complete scam. When I went to pick up the car in Dublin, Europacar required, required me to pay €52.00 a day for insurance or get a letter from my bank at 1:00 AM on a Sunday.
It would have added nearly $800
to my reservation. No indication of this anywhere. This is an outrage.
I got a Budget Rental for less than the €52.a day insurance. Never trust the price at Europacar, and avoid being scammed at the last minute.”
