“The website was very easy to use and we found a great tutor, however your website is not clear at all about having to pay £25 to release the tutor details. We didn't realise this until we had already made contact with our chosen tutor and to get her details it said to pay, not even then did it say an amount until you are asked for your card details. You need to be more upfront about the cost.”

“The website was easy to use to locate a suitable tutor in my local area so it met its main purpose. It looks like First Tutors focus on obtaining references and checking details which is good. Website works well. I don't like the fact that the searcher has to pay to contact the tutor - sales leads are normally paid for by the seller - and the fee is not cheap. And there is no facility for ongoing comms with the tutor after they have taken your money within the website unless you start a new enquiry.”

Dear Paul, Thank you for your feedback. Our one-off introduction fee helps to cover the cost of reference and identity checks on all of our registered tutors. These fees are variable and are linked to the tutor's price per hour to make our service as affordable as possible. Websites such as First Tutors are regulated by the Employment Agencies Standards directorate and we cannot charge tutors for finding work. Once payment of the introduction fee has been made and you receive your tutor’s full contact details you do need to communicate directly with your tutor (by telephone, email, text) to finalise your arrangements for lessons, outside of the website. “Easy to find a long list of good tutors with reviews and near by. Was a bit confused by the setup where you chat to your tutor then buy their details (I think this information could be made more prominent) but overall very happy with the service.”

“I had my first class with Gary. Very friendly and good teaching method. I believe he is good at tailoring the lessons to my own needs, showing great flexibility. Giving the classes from his home, also gives a bit of saving (instead of renting a practice room in a studio, which other teachers do). This saving translates to more classes (or even practice time you need later) to get even better.”

“I am extremely pleased with the help and support Miranda is giving my 11 year old son with his English. Even after 3 weeks my sons confidence has improved and he is actually remembering what he is being taught, which is a huge accomplishment for my son. I look forward to seeing more progress and would definitely recommend Miranda to others.”

“Simon is a fantastic tutor for our daughter who will take her A level geography this summer. Right from the start, he was able to get straight to the reason why she was finding some of the course difficult. Simon is able to relate the subject to things that are meaningful for her. He lets her set the pace, mindful that students do have their homework to do from school. If she wants, our daughter can do some practice questions for Simon to check. Lots of examine technique advice too. Very encouraging and motivating - great at building student confidence. We have no hesitation in recommending Simon.”
