Excellent service that does not require payment until you have found a suitable tutor. I was wary of other sites who require payment before you have even make contact with a tutor. I would recommend First Tutor and will continue to use their service to assist my seven year old son Malaki's dream of becoming a Chorister.

Brilliant first lesson, thoroughly enjoyed my self. Walked away with a better understanding of the guitar and learned a lot in the first hour. Looking forward to the next one.

My experience was hit and miss as I contacted 3 tutors but only heard back from 1 of them. The 1 tutor that did reply was professional and efficient in his response to me.

Dear Paula, Thank you for your review and I am sorry to hear that you haven't been fully satisfied with your experience using the site. We do understand it is disappointing when you open a tuition request with a tutor and they do not respond to you. We do send an email alert to the tutor to advise them when they have a new enquiry, and always hope that they will respond promptly. I am very sorry this was not the case for you with two tutors you tried to contact. Tutors who do not respond to enquiries have their account deactivated after a period of time: we do this to try to ensure only available and responsive tutors have active profiles on the site. I am pleased that you did have a positive experience contacting one of your tutors, and hope that your tuition arrangement is going well. If you need any assistance, please do get in touch with our Customer Support team and we will do our best to help you. Kind regards, First Tutors

My opinion on first tutors is a mixed one. I was using the sub section of music. The search facilities on this section differ to Academic. Its brown decor made it feel out of date, the search function wasn't ideal and felt equally last updated around 2005... It wasn't clear how the website worked, at no point was it explained that there would be a finders fee (not that I saw, even if its not hidden it wasn't explained clear enough) until I was messaging a teacher and I put my mobile number and it said "your comment goes against our rules and will have to be reviewed" or along those lines which left me feeling that I had broken a rule I didn't know existed. Looking back at the website the first mention of the 7.99 fee is below 2 of the lengthiest paragraphs and below the search funtion. When I arrive at this website I am looking for a tutor. Respectfully I am not interested in "who you are or About Us". I am looking for a tutor. Hence the reason I went straight to the search function. It leads me to feel that the creators of First Tutors fear people leaving the website after seeing the finders fee which is why they leave it so far down the page. It feels slightly like they do not believe in the value they are offering customers, otherwise they would be more transparent. I was HAPPY to pay the finders fee as the best part of the whole experience was how good my new guitar teacher is. HOWEVER, I think there needs to be more transparency, there should be a welcome page that explains how it works. E.g. Step 1 - Choose a subject Step 2 - Choose a tutor Step 3 - Pay finders fee to release details Step 4 - Book your first session I truly believe that because of the confusing nature of your website and finding fee scenario you will be losing business not just for you but for your tutors as well. The end result is good, if you fight you way through the poorly designed and functioning website. If it had an update worthy of 2020 and a little more transparency I believe it would be fantastic. All of this coming from a millennial, the next generation of people looking through your website. Sent with all best wishes.

This is a practical service that enabled me to find a suitable tutor at the first try, and for a very reasonable fee.

My daughter had her first lesson with Roderick last night and she described it as the best science lesson she's had in a long time. She said he actually taught her rather than just giving her questions to work through. She got loads from one lesson and is looking forward to the next one. Roderick is very professional and takes the time to ensure he is fully prepared before lessons.

Very easy to search for a tutor, the website is easy to navigate. It did confuse me when it came to paying the fee so that the tutors details could be released but contacting the help team was easy and I had a very prompt reply. I would recommend this site for anyone searching for a tutor.

Unfortunately the tutor had problems engaging and holding my son’s attention during the first lesson and then refused to teach my son, so I can’t say that I’ve had a good experience with Inga.

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that tuition has not gone well with your chosen tutor. We do have a procedure in place where tuition does not go as expected, but as we weren't aware there was a problem we haven't had the opportunity to explain this to you. Customer service have now emailed you regarding this complaint, and if you have any further problems do let us know. Kind regards, Customer Service Team First Tutors

The only negative thing I have to comment is around the fee that First Tutors charge which can be between £4.99 and £24.99. I recently used a chemistry tutor paying £24.99 to release her details. Then paid the tutor. I also wanted a maths tutor which would have cost another £24.99. I found a maths tutor elsewhere. I was told by First Tutor that this fee which strangely ranges in price, is to cover the cost of qualification / reference checks however I would hope that you would check all qualifications before adding a tutor to your site. There are many other tutor services that do not charge that fee and I am more likely to use an alternative company.

Dear Gillian, Thank you for your feedback. Our fees help cover the cost of identity and reference checks on all of our registered tutors and the fee payable is displayed in the header of the request. We only ask for this payment once you have discussed your requirements in full and you are happy to go ahead with tuition. The fee does vary from £4.99-£24.99, according to how much a tutor charges per hour. Websites such as First Tutors are now regulated by the Employment Agencies Standards directorate. Under Section 6 of the Employment Agencies Act 1973, this means we cannot charge tutors for finding work, nor can any other website or agency. Kind regards, Customer Service Team First Tutors

Was delighted to find this site and how easy it was to use as I didn't know where to start with finding someone for grinds. It gave me confidence that tutors are vetted through First Tutors. The process of contacting a tutor was professional and secure. We are now using a tutor who is proving to be just what we needed.

I thought it as gonna be cumbersome - using tech for the sake of it but not at all. It worked. It worked well because there is a highly competent-looking tutor due to visit this week of the first time. Hurray!
