“I have been very disappointed with First Tutors. There was a poor selection of Maths Tutors in our area which I found surprising. The distance noted is 'as the crow flies' which is unhelpful. Most Tutors don't travel and you have to go to them. Several Tutors I contacted did not respond. Those I did contact did not have any qualifications uploaded and when I asked for them abruptly ended conversation. When I did eventually find a tutor and pay the fee the tutor then messed me around for three weeks cancelling each time on the day and eventually told me to find someone else so I am no further forward after a huge amount of effort and hassle. Based on my experience I could not recommend the site unfortunately.”

Dear Sian, Thank you for your feedback. The site has two measurements for distance, 'As the crow flies' and then the distance 'Via roads', both of which are available at the top of any request you make to a tutor along with the map showing location. If you have a problem with your tutor we ask that you let us know and to leave feedback on the tutor's profile so that we can call him/her to account. “I found the site easy to use and informative. Relevant information of the individual tutors was easy to assess and this helped our choice of tutor, especially with the travel distance away being useful. The charging structure and what was and wasn't covered to be clear, with the actual charges being reasonable. The use of the actual site itself seemed quite logical.”

“First Tutors procedure(system) for keeping the prospective clients access informations easily and methodically is a plus point for them. Also their regular requests for up dates on the ongoing search /results achieved re obtaining the tutor is also good. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody seeking a good professional tutor(having already been vetted by First Tutors) in any subject.”

“Good, easy to use and intuitive website. Lots of tutors registered, particularly for secondary subjects, both local and offering lessons online. I found a great tutor for my daughter. Fairly reasonable one-off charge paid by the tutee. However this can be re-assessed. If the charge was lesser, I would hire a lot more tutors and in general it could considerably increase traffic. I found it too much to pay £15 to 'try out' someone, who I may not necessarily find suitable, maybe because my learning style may not be the same as the teacher! If it was £5 on the other hand, I'd try out (and hire) several other tutors (different subjects/ levels) and in the long run, end up paying a lot more, whilst feeling value for money.”

“They will send you lots of tutors but do not tell you until the end that you have to pay £20 per tutor to get there details! Joke really due to the fact that if a tutor is no good or does not show you have to keep paying £20 a turn plus tutor fees. Poor practice”
