Avoid First Home Improvements at all costs. This company is nothing but a scam from start to finish. If you like being ripped off, lied to, and left with drafty, defective windows, then sure go ahead. But if you want quality work and decent customer service, stay far away. The sales process is a complete joke. They trap you in a 3–4-hour interrogation, starting with a ridiculously high price - literally thousands more than the job is worth - then pretend they’re giving you a special deal with fake discounts. This is their Sales Pitch. Even after the so-called discount, you’re still overpaying by 50% or more. They’ll pressure you to sign on the spot, claiming the price is only valid today – Old School Scams. Say no, at least wait as they’ll call you the next day with an even better offer. Never sign while they’re in your home. And their claims? They say they’re manufacturers -they’re not. They say their windows are A+ rated – what a JOKE. Then comes the installation disaster. Everything must be in writing!! If not? they’ll pretend it wasn’t been offered. Even basic things like air vents drilled by professionals need to be listed in the contract, otherwise, they’ll just drill them on-site like a bunch of amateurs. Make sure the glass type they are using and specify in the contract to add insulation like expanding foam. If not, they don’t bother - Instead of using proper expandable foam, they will slap on silicone and cover gaps with super-glued trims. Expect drafts, damp, mold, and cracks within months - the only repair they will do - they will cover everything with silicone. Their windows use undersized cheap Q-lon gaskets, a sponge-like material that lets wind and cold air straight through. The result? Constant drafts through the beading area. In the worse case if you decide to buy from them: DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING STRAIGHT AWAY once they’ve finished the job. Take the time to properly check everything. Look for scratches, cracks, poor sealing, and gaps in the beading—because that’s where the drafts come in. The installers will try to rush you, drag you to their van, and get you to sign, claiming any issues will be "sorted later." That’s a lie. Once you’ve paid, you’re screwed!! And if you think customer service will help, think again. When you complain, they’ll send some installation manager who barely checks anything and just asks, "What do you want us to do?" 13 visits later and still the same issues. If they send an independent inspector, they’ll push for RISA Ltd. - do not accept this. They hire RISA only to do visual inspections, which means they won’t find missing insulation, air gaps, or structural defects. FHI knows this loophole and uses it to dodge responsibility. Once that report is done, they’ll ignore everything else and pretend the problem doesn’t exist. And if you think that’s bad, wait until you leave a bad review. They don’t just ignore complaints—they mock you publicly. When I called them out, they responded by calling me a storyteller, using monkey emojis, and trying to make me look like the problem - shifting. A professional company? Not even close. If you’re wondering how they get so many good reviews, just check Trustpilot, Google, Facebook, and YouTube. Notice how many suspiciously perfect reviews list the full names of salespeople and installers? Who does that? If you’re getting scammed, contact your finance provider ASAP and stop payments until they sort it out. You can also file a Section 75 claim if you paid by credit or finance. Another option is to take them to small claims court - because trust me, they will fight harder to cover up their mistakes than to fix them. They know their windows are rubbish and can’t actually fix the drafts coming through the beads, so instead, they just smash silicone on the beading corners to try and cover it up. As for installation issues? They won’t bother, whether it’s water ingress, gaps, or poor sealing. None of it matters to them as long as they can pass Building Regulations. And don’t waste your time with their Head of Compliance. His job isn’t to help you - it’s to make you give up and cover their wrongdoings. Even with clear evidence - photos of shoddy workmanship, videos of drafts blowing out a candle, proof of damage caused by their installers—he ignored it. Instead, I got some legal nonsense like, "Without Prejudice – matter resolved, and no further issues remain extant." Meanwhile, the drafts, damage, gaps, damp, and mold are still there. This company doesn’t stand by its work. They will fight harder to deny responsibility than to actually provide a decent product. Avoid First Home Improvements at all costs. They will overcharge you, install cheap rubbish, ignore your complaints, and laugh in your face when you try to fight back. I won’t stop warning people about them.

If I could have put zero then I sure would have terrible customer service don’t care what problems you have, the fitters are not qualified enough, only come out if they can be bothered to work, shows up with wrong tools needed for job when they do turn up if you’re lucky, they do a botched job, and even the service team don’t have faith in the installers they said not to bother with this company in my opinion PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. This is really disappointing to hear as this is not the experience we would like customers to have. Can we please ask that you send your contract number/customer details to customerservices@firsthomeimprovements.co.uk so that we can investigate this. Kind Regards, First Home Improvements

Do not invite this awful company into your home!. They say that they will give you a no obligation quote that I valid for 2 years. Don’t believe it! I made an appointment for 8th February 2024. The man arrived and was in my home for four and a half hours!. The quote started at 22k then after the help to buy scheme discount came down to 14k THEN after a phone call by the rep to his manager came down to 10k but, this offer was only valid if I put a £100 deposit there and then. I asked if I could take some time to consider this offer and the answer was NO, he said if I didn’t take up the offer there and then it would be offered to another person. Definitely not a way to conduct a business!. I was point blank told that I wouldn’t get an offer like that anywhere else with the same quality of windows and doors. As I didn’t give in to the total pressured hard sell he went away with a totally different attitude to that of when he arrived. Although this company are not breaking any laws by this pressurised hard sell they are totally not worth employing to do the job. Go to a company that offer a genuine no obligation quote! I ended up today with a quote for a lot less than the 10k with just as good products and we’re not in my home four and a half hours!

I wish I could put less than 1 star, absolutely appalling, turned up at our house at 6pm and did not leave until 10, were new to owning a house and looked to improve the heat retention due to my partners condition, was pushed into taking a deal they made because " if we didn't sign tonight then this deal would be off the table and would be double the price" was told to think of my partner and take into consideration " importance for her" was then not show a single quote, tried to cancel the production to which every phone call resulted in being fobbed off, or told they wasn't able to get a manager. This took so much time to which went past our cooling off period and now they are avoiding our phone calls and claiming there's nothing to do. Absolutely disgusting company

25k for some windows and doors that incredibly drops down to 15k with a quick phone call to his manager? how on earth do they do this? just pull a random number out of thin air and hope people will pay it. I think this company need to take a long hard look at the financial state the country is in and remember a lot of people are in a cost of living crisis! 25k!!!!

Our next door neighbours used this company to get their new windows installed. The installation team parked across our driveway blocking us in for 3 hours without permission. Unwrapped the windows in the public cul de sac letting all the packaging fly in the wind into neighbouring driveways and fields with livestock in. They just didn’t care about the rubbish, leaving it all over the road too. They then put a promotional sign saying how successful the installation was in the neighbours’ having the new windows fitted driveway for a month. It looked so naff. The neighbours then had to have a number of the windows refitted as problems 2 months later. Another sign was put in the garden saying how the installation was successful. The sign should’ve read: “Another fly tipping mess and second installation due to the first being sub standard” ….

Don't let them come to your house for a quote! They put a lot of pressure on you and wasted 3 hours of my time. They also gave me a really high quote that was then slashed less than half and even then I still got a better quote from my local shop.

I don’t usually do this but I was so disgusted by the way I have recently been treated by First Home Improvement. I took a job as a canvasser knocking on doors. The original agreement was £150 base pay a week and £80 a lead. At first this sounds not too bad. I was expected to work 4 days a week minimum and did so, of course what you want is leads. But in truth you’ll only get leads if people are actually interested in getting some work done. No one wants a free quote. So it’s 50/50 if you get someone in, then 50/50 if they’re not busy, then another 50/50 if they want any work done. But the reason I’m writing this is after doing a four days 6-8 hours a day canvassing for them I was not even payed my base pay because‘I had not generated any leads’. I’m not in the best position hence taking such a difficult job for the less than minimum wage I was promised and then this wasn’t even paid. Utterly disgusted with them and I advise anyone not to work for them or get work done by them if this is how the treat their employees.

we had a very lovely, but very chatty salesman. He took his time explaining all aspects of the company, including their history, and brought some example windows for us to see. He was polite with it, but quite pushy for the sale. He ended up not leaving our house until gone 10pm (when he arrived at 6pm!). The surveyor: came out 3 weeks later to confirm measurements. Did the job well and quick! The installation: this was booked for 19th/20th September. The first day was 1 guy who was specifically there to do our big patio doors. Polite, friendly and did the job well. Tidied up after himself too - brought his own hoover. Day 2 was 2 men to install the windows. Not such a great experience. Spoke badly about other staff members, left mess all in our garden which our dog found days later and was chewing, luckily we caught him in time. Also didn't bring their own hoover, asked to use ours to hoover up debris. When we then went to use it the next day, it was broken. After: When the window installers left, they told us we had to pay our balance in full the same day. Initially when we agreed to go ahead with purchasing the windows, we were told that we would have a month to make sure we were happy with the product before we had to pay. We contacted customer service to query it and she actioned it quickly and we had a call from the install manager, telling us we had been told wrong at the point of sale & that option was only for customers playing monthly. We also noticed that the windows didn't line up properly when closed, meaning a draft was still coming in. There was scuffs on one of the handles where it had obviously been dropped. And the patio handle doesn't work correctly - has to be yanked up super hard in order to lock the door. Not the high quality we were sold and disappointing when paying so much money. We contacted customer service again, who again passed the message onto install manager, who called the same day explaining he'd call back later the day with a date for them to come out. After 4 days of not hearing anything, we had to chase them again. When we finally got a return call to book in, we couldn't get an appointment for over a month's time. Once visited (on 26th October) to fix our issues reported, they were only actually able to change the handle that was installed scuffed/scratched and adjust a lock on the back patio doors. They were unable to fix any of the gaps we reported in the window hinges which are just constantly letting the cold in and not insulating the rooms in the slightest. This was the exact reason we got the windows replaced in the first place, so we feel we have paid over £11,000 to have windows fitted that are leaving us in the cold having to put the heating on just as much as before. Overall we feel that we were sold this super amazing product and it has definitely not lived up to the expectations.

Absolutely scam!!!!!! Do not go for these people. Aggressive business sales that do not take no for an answer. Should have done research before allowing a quote to even happen because it was diabolical. 7,000 for a front door only to be dropped down to 1,000 ?!?!? Madness and lots of pressure to sign a deal there and then.

We invited them round to give us a price for replacing four windows and two doors. We made it clear at the beginning that we wouldn't be signing anything and that we didn't want it done until early next year. The lady was polite enough, but the sales pitch was just so long winded and a hard sell. When we eventually after two hours arrived at the price, it was nearly £27k, over exaggerated and ridiculous for what we wanted. Numerous calls were then made to her boss (at which time I switched off), to see if anything can be done on the price. Miraculously, the price dropped from nearly £27k to £12K if we signed then and there. We really thought it was a scam and as we had already made it clear we would not be signing anything, the sales lady left. That was two hours of our life we will never get back. Then today we received a text from them offering a new price of £10k inc of VAT. Can you imagine if we had agreed to the first price how much over the top we would have paid, luckily we are not that stupid. Stick to companies you know, who will measure up, don't need to do a hard sell and will give you a quote to think about.

Pressure sales tactic Got first Home improvements in to get a price for 6 windows and a front door. The salesman was polite and the product was good, the sales pitch was long but thorough. After over 2hrs we got to the price. An initial price is given to shock you (far more than the work should have been) and then they offer you massive discounts to get to a more sensible price, which would have been fine if we could compare with other quotes but the price is there and then only, take it or leave it in an attempt to pressurise you to commit. Once my wife and I explained we were not going to make a snap decision, the mood changed and the salesman was out the door. A complete waste of an evening and not a company I ever want to engage with if that is how they get business. Part of the promotion price is a discount on your quote if you agree to leave them a positive review, so now I don't believe any of the reviews from buyers!

I echo the experiences of most others on here. 3 hours … 3 HOURS of my Saturday morning I’ll never get back. Quite frankly, a really high pressures sales situation to be put in, I got frustrated and upset. Be prepared to hear a long winded company background story and settle in with a tea. Cancel all your plans for the week … And to top it off, at the end, they provide you with an incredibly escalated quote, and then SLASH it by over 70% with discounts and offers that you can only take up for as long as the sales person stays. Maybe if they tell you that at the beginning of the three hours… you’d actually have some time to think about it…. Or better yet, don’t try fob off your customers with escalated prices and then try to ‘relieve’ them by thinking they’re getting a massive deal when the reality is you can get those reasonable prices first-time from other local suppliers. Genuinely one of the worst experiences of my life.

We have just had First Home Improvements around to quote. Awful, high pressure sales tactics. Wanted both me and my partner, despite being told that we didn't want to do that. Spent an hour on pointless "about the company" sales drivel, including making phone calls and trying to wear us down to commit to something without having time to think. After an hour of wasting time, no measurements had been taken, no options had been discussed and no quotes had been produced. When my wife needed to deal with the children and needed to leave, the sale person wouldn't carry on, despite us saying that it is the way we prefer to work; one of us spends time getting quotes, then we both consider it later. Such awful high pressure sales makes me worry about vulnerable people being exploited by this company. Don't invite them in, they will waste your time.
