“I rented a car in Majorca, on return an employee gave me the all clear and I received paperwork to that affect but the same day they cahrged me 50 euros wihtout an explantation. I called them and they said that they had emailed me and sent me an invoice for a damaged emergency light. I had taken a video and sent it to customer services requesting a refund as the timestamped video showed no evidence of any damage. They then changed thier story and said that I had taken the docments out of the glove compartment and the number plate was damaged. I looked at the photo that they took and they had fraudulently altered the photo as the video showed no damage. This is scandulous! DO NOT USE GOLDCAR”
“AWFUL BEHAVIOUR
On March 16, we arrived late in the evening to Lanzarote airport, our car rental booking was made through an agent.
Arriving at the GoldCar desk there was a confusion about our booking and I called the agent to let them speak directly to the GoldCar staff. It resulted in that the senior GoldCar staff member insulted the woman from the agency in a terrible way. What we and others at the arrival hall overheard was absolutely unacceptable!”
“Fantastic experience if you enjoy being blamed for scratches that were already on the car. I was conveniently charged for “damage” that clearly existed before I even touched the vehicle. When I questioned it, the customer service quickly switched from unprofessional to aggressively unhelpful, with communication suddenly becoming very difficult.
If you like surprises on your bill and awkward confrontations, this is definitely the place for you. For everyone else, I’d strongly recommend avoiding.”
“On arrival Goldcar immediately tried to upsell us to a more expensive model of car. We declined, they tried to force us to take out additional €240 insurance that we also declined at first. Unfortunately they were not going to give us the car so I reluctantly handed over my debit card. I asked for the names of the two gentlemen working so I could make a future complaint. At this point they became very angry, turned their badges around so their name could not be seen and refused to give us the car. They said I was renting the car too cheaply at a peak time, they can rent it for triple the price the next day. They said I should have bought the upgraded car and extra insurance as that was still a fair total price.
They refused to give us the car and told us to leave or they would call security, they said they will document that I was rude as to the reason for denying my family the car.
This left myself, wife and 2 young kids without transport in the night/dark in a strange country.
Numerous locals told us this was very normal behaviour for Goldcar Tenerife, they said they hear daily complaints about suspect behaviour from them and can't believe they are still in business. 'Crooks' was the perfect word that one person used.”
“Greedy bastards. Weren't even friendly as they gave us a contract in Spanish which we found out a month later had insurance we hadn't requested costing 200 e for a weeks rental. I hope they xxxxing choke on it”
“One of the worst car rental experiences I’ve had.
At the counter, multiple expensive extras were added without clear explanation, under time pressure and presented as if they were standard or necessary. I was rushed through the process, like most customers, and only later realised the scale of the charges.
Issues included:
• Two overlapping insurance products charged at the same time
• Additional driver fee charged even though no second driver licence was ever checked or registered
• Cross-border cover charged despite me clearly stating I would not be leaving the country
• A long list of extras added at pickup, resulting in hundreds of euros in unexpected costs
When I contacted customer service, the response was the usual copy-paste:
“You signed the contract, therefore no refund.”
This ignores the reality that customers are rushed at the counter and that extras are not explained transparently. A signature does not equal informed consent when services are bundled, unclear, or unnecessary.
This feels like a deliberate business model: upsell aggressively at pickup, then hide behind the contract afterwards.
I will never use Goldcar again and strongly advise others to avoid unless you are prepared to fight charges later. There are far more transparent rental companies out there.”
“I was early picking up my car at FUE airport and was told they had no vehicles of that type available but I could upgrade for €17 a day. At the pick-up point, there were numerous vehicles of the type I had booked. Strange. On return of the car, the rear parcel shelf was missing (stupidly, I hadn't taken photos of every single square inch of the car). I know I didn't lose it or steal it and the car hadn't been broken in to. Strangely, it was the first thing that was checked. It seems obvious to me that the shelf was already missing. I wonder how many people have been charged for this 'missing' parcel shelf. I would advise anyone hiring a car here to avoid this mob.”
“The company buried in small print the need to have an international driving permit for a rental in Italy with an UK drivers license. Refused to rent the car, refused to give a refund or credit. Basically stole the money. Customer disservice seems more appropriate name for the way they dealt with this.”
“Absolute scam!!!
I booked a car for 36€ and ended p having to pay 360€.
A month later I got charged another 40€ for some made up fine or something.
NEVER again with Goldcar.”
“I’ve always believed I could handle things on my own, but after weeks of struggling with a platform issue, I finally realized I needed help. A friend told me about Michael and team, and reaching out to them changed everything. From the very beginning, their team showed patience, understanding, and professionalism that immediately put me at ease. They didn’t just focus on fixing the issue — they focused on how I felt through the process. Every step was guided with care and clarity, turning frustration into relief. By the end, I understood why so many people trust Michael and team— they don’t just solve problems, they help you find peace of mind again.”

“Shocking company, even a possible scam company
Advise to never use
Everything not good including attitude of receptionists, who took pleasure in taking the p, in Spanish, even though they spoke English
Car, not as booked, in shocking condition, damage all over. Dirty
High pressure selling used
Ridiculous expensive insurance
Use fear to get you to buy
Car not full of fuel when I picked the car up leaving me to pay astronomic fees when returned after doing 130km
I’ll never use this company ever again
Should be closed down”
“Avoid at all costs. Worse car hire experience ever. Rude staff. Long wait. Damaged cars. Wrong information on paperwork. I could go on and on and on. Shocking! Never again will I use Goldcar! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY”
“Avoid at all costs, and do not be misled by a cheap price. When picking up the car, “All-Risks” insurance was presented as almost obligatory (€400). Then the car broke down, and I had to take a taxi (€250) to pick up a replacement vehicle. I was told the taxi cost would be reimbursed, but it was later refused.
The breakdown was apparently considered my fault, so the All-Risks insurance did not cover it (€500). The second car had a non-functioning air conditioner—two weeks in Puglia in the summer with no A/C. I could exchange it, but I was required to drive to the office myself, a two-hour trip each way.
A complete drama!”
“Avoid this company at all costs. We went on a trip to Oviedo we returned the car full with petrol. Still 6 weeks later the £67 pounds (77 euros) have not been returned to my credit card.”
“Underhand practice at collection counter.
I collected my car key at Malaga airport and due to being in a hurry for a mtg did not question the additional €175 charge on the contract (fuel etc).
Upon returning the car with a full tank I received just €82, when I questioned this with customer service they said €29 for airport tax (fair enough I thought) and €64 for a vehicle upgrade that I was not told of not was it needed as I was travelling on my own.
The Malaga counter staff are pushing the hard sell for insurance, breakdown etc. but to put in a charge without mention is a new low. I raised with the Customer Service team who said that as if signed I had to pay the upgrade.
Beware everyone and take a minute to check what you are paying for, some really unscrupulous counter staff at Malaga Goldcar counter.”
“After having a reservation, I went to pick up my car and the idiot behind the counter told me that I needed an international driver license to rent a car in Spain however, the law states that no international driver license needed if you are staying less than 90 days in Spain, I have a California driver license valid and it’s accepted in Spain.
I went to OK Mobility, and I rented a car there the same day.
This is what you get when you deal with companies like gold car
Don’t waste your money all your time and go to a real rental place.
The counter guy was a real loser”
“Very old car, without modern amenities and with missing elements, bad and misleading service, bad attitude of the staff in Bologna Italy. I booked a Fiat 500 and got a Lancia Ypsilon (probably the ugliest car ever made by an Italian manufacturer). You can't rent something like that in the area where Ferrari, Ducati, Pagani, Lamborghini and Maserati are made. And that one had OVER 78,000 kilometers on it, with missing interior and exterior parts and strange engine noises until it warmed up.”
“I was completely unsure of where to turn until I came across IGRINC.ORG in online reviews. Reaching out to them was the best decision— their swift response immediately impressed me. There were no vague replies or unnecessary delays. They listened carefully, allowed me to share every detail, and showed genuine care in addressing my situation.”
