Hello, thank you for your review and feedback! In regards to the question, the correct answer I linked to PPE is that you must ensure that PPE is well maintained and replaced or repaired when necessary. This is correct and dependant on the PPE you would either maintain, replace or repair it. I can see where you are coming from about repairing PPE as in some cases it probably wouldn't be appropriate, such as a cracked hard hat which would probably be best replaced. However, the HSE guidance for PPE at Work (https://www.hse.gov.uk/pUbns/priced/l25.pdf) references repairing several times throughout, and more specifically states: "Simple repairs can be carried out by a trained wearer, for example replacing broken laces on safety shoes but more intricate repairs should be done by staff with the required skills and technical knowledge. Only the correct spare parts, as recommended by the manufacturer, should be used. It may be a good idea to keep a stock of spare parts. If the technical knowledge is not available internally then contract services may be available from the manufacturer or supplier or a specialist maintenance firm could be used." As the answer says, it should be repaired "when necessary" to make it clear that it won’t always be the case - in line with HSE guidance it can be repaired where relevant. It isn’t the employee's role to the repairing, but PPE can be repaired only when necessary.
