RapidOnline is set in the dark ages so far as online security goes. For anyone with a real job (unable to receive parcels at home), they have a stupid 'order something which will fit through your letterbox, then 30 days later, spend as much as you want' policy. This lost them a £120 order - and was annoying because I ended up buying a different product from Maplin (who are happy delivering a personal order to a business address). Then they have the stupidity to add me to their mailing list uninvited. Much, much worse, a week later I receive an anonymous (Dear customer) email with 'please find attached your invoice' and a pdf attachment. This is (a) indistinguishable from a phishing attack, and (b) extremely bad form in educating your customers. So, you treat me like a criminal, send me spam, and finally show you don't have any respect for my online security.

I made an order and put it on company account. When it didn't arrive, I went online to check where it was and the order had been cancelled! I do not recall receiving an email notification of this cancellation! And there was no explanation online as to why the order had been cancelled! I have since reordered and paid using credit card and the order has not been dispatched! I could have missed the email as I do receive a lot of emails daily and once I have made an order, I do not feel the need to review every email notification of order received, order being dispatched, order now dispatched, surveys and questionnaires!!

Hi Steve. We are sorry to hear that you discovered that an order with us had been cancelled unnecessarily. Unfortunately we cannot find any record of this order to look into the reason why it was cancelled. With regards to your current order, we can confirm that the majority of the order has been dispatched and was delivered to your address on 18/02/2015 and signed for by "QUEK". We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Kind regards, Samantha Wright Web Department

The order came quickly but I am putting a lower score because the packaging was ridiculous. My order was for clay which when ordered from a different company comes in a plastic bag - fine because it it is totally unbreakable! This order came in four cardboard boxes packed with so much paper that it completely filled my recycling bin! I'm afraid that this would stop me using your company again. Sorry.

Failed to correct a postcode on an order which resulted in a failed delivery. Simple miscommunication, refunded failed delivery eventually and rectified issue with subsequent next morning delivery but I still had to shell out for pre-9am delivery. Paid more than I really needed to and deadline was missed regardless. Not poor, but not great either.

Delivery used to be reliable, always arrived next day but now goods arrive mostly two days after order placed.

Very prompt service but disappointed on this occasion as information given about an item did not indicate a change to thread pitch on a screw cap. A small detail, but meant the replacement part received was unusable.

Excellent delivery speed, but unfortunately the items purchased we slightly damaged, despite being excellently packed - which seems to suggest it was the product rather than Rapid at fault. However, I'd still recommend Rapid, as previous orders have been of an excellent quality

Overall im fairly happy with Rapid electronics, having known them and worked with them for quite a long time now (almost 20 years!). However, I do not like the fact that they always charge the full amount of an order to your credit card when items are put on back order! There is no reason to do this whatsoever in my opinion. Other than that I have no issues with them at all.

Hi Lynne. We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with regards to the delivery of your order. Having looked into this matter, it appears that due to a high influx of consignments, UK Mail have been unable to deliver orders in their usual timely manner. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Kind regards, Samantha Wright Web Department

turn around of order is very quick with next day delivery. Single side copper clad pcb low quality in my opinion and doesn't etch at all well compared with Farnell and Maplin boards. Everything else; relays, switches, knobs, connectors etc superb value and quality

As a web programmer there is a lot that Rapid can do to make their website more responsive. From my experience, nothing is cached locally on the customer's device so every page has to be redownloaded from scratch including the header and navigation bar which don't change. It is pretty annoying to have to wait a few seconds for the header to download then the rest of the page be instant. It is also obvious that Rapid are using a CMS (Content Management System) for their website as some items aren't (arguably) in the correct category and the 'from' label below products simply gets the cheapest item in that category - which makes sense, except Rapid put related items in the category too, a soldering irons tip in a soldering irons page so it shows up as 'from £2' for example. I also find the navigation bar to be annoying as it is so large when it opens a customer's cursor has to go around the bar, and when they do want to use it, it closes if the cursor goes out by a single pixel, this could be avoided with simple css transitions. The target audience isn't really clear from the website, I don't know if they target hobbyists or businesses, from the way it remembers past orders and has invoices I guess the latter. The company itself however is really responsive, getting back to my questions in only a few hours in some cases. Orders arrive fast, prices are good and the free delivery on orders over £30 is great. If Rapid are targeting hobbyists, optimizing the website and having more hobby friendly products like ICs would help a lot.

Although my previous dealings with Rapid would be rated good on this occasion the quality of the images on the website have not been good enough for me to properly identify the product I was looking for. The image of the pcb board appeared to continuous strips between the edge connector strips whereas the board delivered had only a series of unconnected dots around each hole. When I asked about returning the board I was told that it was not worth returning the board and I should keep it. Although the price of the board is only £9.99 +VAT I find the principle unacceptable.

In terms of product support, Rapid are placed somewhere below the established industrial suppliers (RS, Farnell, etc) and above the hobby suppliers (Maplin, etc). For example, many of the components sold are not traceable to manufacturer, suppliers var with time and the web site data is incorrect. A good example was some plastic boxes we used to buy. The web site claimed manufacturer A. The data sheet linked to the page claimed manufacturer B and an enquiry to technical claimed manufacturer C! When we found minor differences in colour, fixings and machineability within a batch, the reasons were obvious. This standard may be OK for the hobby market, but not for equipment manufacturers. Needless we now buy these elsewhere. This leads on to the technical support Rapid provide. It is a joke. Well it would be if some of was not dangerous. Some of the answers to questions that I have seen range from misleading, to incorrect, downright dangerous. Technical data onthe site is often misleading or incorrect. Having said this, Rapid are trying to improve their weakenesses and get more business from the industrial sector. We have purchased non catalogue parts, set up scheduled orders, etc. We frequently find ourselves asked to provide a product review for inclusion on their site, with the 'carrot' of a £25 voucher for the best that month. We have yet to have a review published, let alone got any money. Basically, unless you have the item is absolutley fantastic and the best thing you have every bought in all your life, they don't want to know. We tell it how we see it. A recent example was some electricians scissors. The tool did get a glowing report. The 'convenient (their description) carry pouch did not. you had to struggle to extract the scissors. Because of this minor niggle, they did not publish. Why ask if you aren't going to make use of the answers? We have now given up on the reviews. I wonder what will happen with this review. We have a significant spend with Rapid, and this is expected to continue. But they sell to us on price & delivery only. Not on product support or wide product range. I didn't actually got my order because they use UK Mail as couriers who are entirely useless. How can a courier company not offer evening and weekend deliveries? Rapid didn't quibble when I asked for a refund, but made no attempt to keep my business. Will not use again.

I have orders delivered to the channel isles and pay a £9 postage supplement. Because some of the ordered items weren't in stock, Rapid weren't going to send the majority of stocked items until the few remaining components came into stock. Most suppliers would send the stocked items immediately. If that is Rapids usual policy then at least they should contact/email the customer to let them know the components will be delayed and why. Rapid also do not send an email to confirm you order. You only hear back from them when the items are ready for shipment. More communication please Rapid........or should I say not-so-Rapid.
