Overall: Very good. Enjoyed Most: Quiet, quaint, and centrally located for many rewarding day trips. Didn't have to worry about not getting sleep after long days sight seeing. Enjoyed Least: Musty odor from a storage cellar on lower level; we bought some air fresheners to combat this. Surrounding Area: Very quiet village, and easy access to Lucca or Pisa. Nearby Events or Locales: Santa Maria del Giudice. Within walking distance. Very friendly mini mart close by. Tips or Restaurants: Might want to bring some food, as the mini mart (although very friendly) isn't always available. Besides, there is a standard size refrigerator. Check In Out: After calling property owner and setting a time, we sat at the gate for some time before being greeted by a relative. Didn't get good instructions on how to work anything in the apartment, where to take garbage, etc.

Overall: We had a very good time in this property. Enjoyed Most: The location was outstanding as all the major sites were within easy, short walking distance. Enjoyed Least: The lofts took a little getting used to. Surrounding Area: The property is behind the Savoy and Piazza de Republica so it was easy to find and centrally located. Nearby Events or Locales: The property is in the heart of Florence. Tips or Restaurants: If you have small children the lofts could be dangerous.

Overall: The apartment was great. It was bigger than a hotel room and having the kitchen let us cut some of our food expenses by eating in after shopping at the nearby grocery. Even though our flight was 5 hours late, our greeter was cheerful and helpful. This is our second Rentvillas.com experience and I would definitely choose them over other rental groups because I trust them. Enjoyed Most: It was a great location and having an apartment made us much more comfortable than having a hotel. We cut costs by eating meals "at home" and it really felt like home. Enjoyed Least: There was a slight smell, so we had to open the window when we arrived. Small things were lacking - no clock no alarm, no soap dish in shower, no bottle opener. I would recommend owners move into their apartments for a couple days to test what the experience would be like and fill in what is missing. Surrounding Area: The location was great, filled with bars, cafe, shopping, and centrally located to the Louvre, Tuileries, etc. Tips or Restaurants: Climbing the stairs will allow you to eat another croissant!

Overall: Villa Acacia was stupendous. Part of our group is talking of returning in 2006. We spent 13 days in Italy and we had the most fun basing our travels from this villa. Many thanks to Charity for pointing us to this property. Enjoyed Most: The views from the villa were incredible!!! The close location to the bus stop and store for buying the bus tickets were great for those who did not want to drive. If you climb to the top of the Duomo, you can see our villa in the distance!!!! Look for the tall, spiky trees. If you want to explore Florence at your leisure, the VERY frequent bus service every 15 minutes makes this villa an easy choice!!! Enjoyed Least: You are not within walking distance of a reasonably-priced restaurant. Warning There is a steep hill you must climb when the bus drops you off near your villa unless you want to stay on it for an additional 20 minutes for the bus to do a loop and drop you off further up the hill, a downhill walk to the villa. This hill is really only an issue for people with bad knees, bad backs, or failing stamina. Surrounding Area: It was fairly quiet. The views were stunning. The grounds were VERY well-maintained. Riccardo and Jean were very accomodating. Nearby Events or Locales: La Lastra is within walking distance. The bus drops you off and you walk the 250 meters up hill to the villa Pluses-bus tickets, gas station, and post office. Minuses - no restaurant. Tips or Restaurants: If travelling in cooler weather, bring warmer clothing to sleep in unless you want to pay additional for expensive heat. If you plan on driving, buy a VERY detailed map of Florence and one that includes Via Bolognese....the street upon which the villa is located . This map SAVED our bacon, as driving towards Siena and the Cinque Terre, and driving up from Rome, we heavily relied on its details. When we received the driving directions in our rental packet in the USA, we followed the path along the map. It made for a less stressful experience. If you plan on doing a lot of exploring south of Florence, and you DO not mind driving through and around Florence, then definitely stay at this property. However, if you are not a confident driver and plan your travels south of Florence, I'd recommend a location wherein you do not have to drive through Florence. Not as crazy as Rome....but still insane for the uninitiated. Directions: It's tricky to reach this property regardless of the directions. You come around a curve.....boom!! The sign for La Lastra and the AGIP gas station are right upon you. Most of our travellers had difficulty reaching the property.

Overall: Sweet to be close to one of the "hubs" in Paris. We enjoyed the lovely restaurants and outdoor cafes. The views were "true Paris"! Romantic! Enjoyed Least: Noise from the streets all night. Tips or Restaurants: Bring your own soap and washcloths. Directions: We had Paris City limos pick us up. Great value and zero hassle!

Overall: We enjoyed ourselves and felt like for a week we lived Positano-style in a traditional villa. Enjoyed Most: The views, of course, and the terraces - beautiful. Enjoyed Least: The bathrooms - drainage and shower heads in showers very poor. Couldn't wait to have a decent shower. Surrounding Area: We were high enough to enjoy the views but not too high for it to be inconvenient.Having the grocery shop just down a few steps from us was also great. Directions: Thank you for easy-to-read directions. Check In Out: We were late to arrive and yet we felt welcomed.

Overall: We had a very enjoyable stay here. The property was large and well appointed. It was centrally located for exploration of Normandy. The caretakers, Clairette and Jean Claude, were warm and very friendly. Enjoyed Most: We enjoyed the peaceful rural atmosphere, the spaciousness of the rooms and the grounds, and the ease in getting to a main road to go to specific destinations. Enjoyed Least: We had some confusion in the beginning about the kitchen situation as we had rented villas before and had done breakfasts and some dinners ourselves. The kitchen here is shared by the caretakers and they speak only French so it took us a couple of days to figure out what the situation was. Once we did, however we had them provide our breakfast and dinners and it was great, convenient, and very reasonably priced. Surrounding Area: This property is on or very close to the Cider Route so the surrounding area is just lovely. We visited Giverny on the way to the villa, explored the Cider Route, went to the Bayeux and the D Day beaches, to Caen, to Honfleur and to Mont St. Michel. Nearby Events or Locales: Pont L'Eveque is the nearest town. It isn't within walking distance but is less than 10 minutes by car and very charming. In the past we have been able walk to a village and have enjoyed that experience but this was great, too--can't get more convenient than just walking into the lovely dining room ! Tips or Restaurants: I would suggest planning to have Clairette prepare your breakfast and as many dinners as you can. There is nothing within walking distance (the one small restaurant nearby was closed when we were there) and she does a lovely job both with the meals and the decor. She is flexible with the breakfast so you don't have to plan a specific time, but if you need to be off early it is no problem for her to have things ready at an early hour! Directions: We used a GPS and found it without trouble, but the sign confused us a little because it looked like a hotel sign to us. Check In Out: People should be aware that the caretakers speak only French-- they are very welcoming but when you phone, if you don't speak French, communication will be challenging.

Overall: Overall we enjoyed the property. The grounds were well kept and the interior of the property was clean and tidy. Enjoyed Most: It was clean and well maintained. Enjoyed Least: The house was not close to the village Beaume De Venice; it was on the outskirst. You could not walk for a morning coffee and pastry; you had to drive. We even had bikes and it was a good bike ride to the town. There were only 4 of us renting the property. If 6 of us were staying at the house the seating around the living room would not comfortably accommodate all. Two of the bedrooms did not have pillows to sleep on. We had to use the decorative pillows which were uncomfortable. Surrounding Area: Everything. Wine, ruins, visiting all the surrounding towns. Riding all over the area. Tips or Restaurants: Bring salt and pepper; the kitchen does not supply any spices. Don't worry about bringing toilet paper, dishwasher soap and laundry soap; they are at the villa. Directions: We used our GPS.

Overall: The property is a wonderful combination of the old and new. The house has great character, heavy wood beams in the ceiling, and a marvelous view of the old pigeonnier. Enjoyed Most: It has four nice sized bedrooms with 3 very nice bathrooms. It looked very much like the pictures on the website. The owners were very nice and helpful. Surrounding Area: The surrounding area was quaint and pleasant. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest small town is Doville and it was within walking distance. But it has houses only. The nearest town with shops, restaurants, etc. is La Haye du Puits and it is not within walking distance, but is a quick drive away. Directions: Finding the place requires paying careful attention to the written directions. But if you pay attention to the directions, you will find it without too much problem. Check In Out: The owner checked us in and was very friendly and explained everything well. They have thought through just about everything that someone would ask and took the time to explain where everything is, etc.

Overall: Very nice villa. Enjoyed Most: Location is very peaceful. Enjoyed Least: Stove needs repairs- dials don't work. Also one shower head needs work. Surrounding Area: Close to many beautiful sights. Nearby Events or Locales: A good supermarket was only 5 minutes by car. Tips or Restaurants: Try the owner's wine and olive oil. It is excellent.

Overall: Very enjoyable stay in a countryside environment. Villa is on a working vineyard and olive orchard. Nice yard areas around the buildings and pool. Very quiet nad relaxing. Enjoyed Most: Location close to major road but just far enough away to avoid any road noise. Owner was very friendly. She offers free winetasting from her own vineyard. Wine is very good. I bought some to take home. Enjoyed Least: Property initially very difficult to locate. Surrounding Area: Short drive to Lake with pleasant shore-front park and walkways. Nearby Events or Locales: Small supermarket only 5 minutes away. Very convenient.

Overall: Perfect place for many families together.Lots of interesting places to visit in the area within an hour's drive. Enjoyed Most: The outdoor area was nice and with lots of shade.Nice swimming pool with plenty of reclining chairs. Each apartment was different but all were very charming. Enjoyed Least: Nothing - we enjoyed everything (expect the rooster who started his routine at 6 o'clock on the neigbor's farm.) Surrounding Area: Very charming countryside, lots of places to visit. We enjoyed the cathedral in Orvieto, the city Siena (market on wednesdays - park at the north end of the village, by the stadium), the fortified village Montereggioni, chocolate and ice cream in Perugia, the awesome "Grotto de Frasassi" (a day trip - lunch in Gubbio, then the caves followed by dinner in Perugia on your way home). Nearby Events or Locales: Vernazzano is a not even a village, but had 2 local bars, both within walking distance.Tuoro sul Trasiemo is the closest village (5 min. to drive), but not really within walking distance. Restaurants are everywhere in the countryside - we tried and recommend an outdoor restaurant situated halfway between the property and Cortona, along the local road. Tips or Restaurants: The local foods stores are open unril 8 in the evening, and even open for a short while on Sundays, so it was easy to get food and beverages after we arrived. The store is a 5-minute drive from the property.Bigger stores are a 15 minute drive--there's one in Carmucia (near Cortona) that has a good selection of meat, seafood and wine.Buy the map of the Umbria + Marche area (Touring Editore no. 8) Directions: None - the directions were perfect. Check In Out: Everything went smoothly.

Overall: We had a great time during our stay. Enjoyed Most: 3 couples, 3 bathrooms. Nice location--lots room in the villa. Great hostess. Surrounding Area: It was beautiful countryside. Close drive to groceries and sights. Nearby Events or Locales: We could walk to the town, Staggia. It was very small. No groceries that we found. But a nice enough restaurant. Tips or Restaurants: Purchase toilet paper. We almost forgot that was our responsibility. Our hostess had been sure there was some there. Directions: Nope. We drove by our first time. Just needed to regroup. Found it on the second try. Check In Out: We had no problems.

Overall: Very good. Enjoyed Most: Help from the management team. Enjoyed Least: Musty smell in the living room. Surrounding Area: Lots of great things to do and see in a beautiful environment. Nearby Events or Locales: Vorno. A little too far to walk. Directions: We did use a GPS. Check In Out: Nicolas and Barbara were very helpful.

Overall: We had a marvelous time at La Novizia. We spent the second week of our three-week holiday in Italy there and it was a restful haven. Enjoyed Most: We loved the setting and the expansive views of the dreamy Tuscan countryside. The house is authentic and charming and yet has all the modern conveniences: air-conditioned bedrooms, essential in July, washer-dryer and a clothesline with a view! and dishwasher. It is perfectly maintained and kept impeccably clean by the maid who comes in daily. The pool, while not enormous, was a refreshing respite at the end of the day and the site of a great deal of family fun. Its setting among rosemary bushes and lavender added aromatherapy to our splashing! Enjoyed Least: The kitchen, though charming and authentic, is not very practical because of the fact that it is built on two levels. Surrounding Area: We visited Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Certaldo, all of which are within easy driving distance of the villa. We had also planned to see some other nearby towns but were seduced into spending a couple of quiet days just enjoying the property. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest small town is Fiano, which is 2km away across the fields and olive groves. It would be an inviting walk in cooler weather but the 30-35 degree weather made us opt for our air-conditioned car. Tips or Restaurants: The house was extremely well equipped and had everything we needed. All the supplies I had brought with me fore example matches, cutting board, sharp knife, cleaning supplies stayed in my suitcase.

Overall: Maison Rose is a beautiful 200 year old home with excellent outdoor living space and an outdoor kitchen. The house was large enough to accommodate two families with active children, yet it was full of cozy little places to curl up with a book. We enjoyed our time there very much and were very impressed with the property owner. He was very involved and helpful during our stay. Enjoyed Most: I definitely loved the outdoor kitchen and eating area near the pool! The children loved the pool, piano, pool table, and hiding spots. We adults found ourselves living outdoors with the fully equipped poolside kitchen. Everything about the furnishings were thoughtful: on the pool deck there were plenty of chaise lounges for the sun worshipper as well as the shade lovers. One of our children made it her goal to sit in every chair in the house before the week was over; I think her count was 117 chairs! Enjoyed Least: Many of the bathrooms only had a bidet and not a toilet. Also, there were not enough towels. Surrounding Area: We loved Gourdon! Definitely worth a trip for the views alone! Nearby Events or Locales: Plascasier was the nearest town and it was within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Bring towels. The owners live next door, and were very helpful in suggesting activities that we'd enjoy. One of the activities that they suggested, which turned out to be the highlight of the entire France trip for our children, was a hike along a river, culminating in pools of water that we swam in.We will have fond memories forever of La Maison Rose!

Overall: We enjoyed the entire stay. The house was in walking distance to town. A five minute walk to the bakery and cafe. A 10 min walk to the InterMarche grocery store. Enjoyed Most: The wonderful vaulted ceilings, the great bathrooms, and the wonderful patio and pool. Enjoyed Least: The downstairs rooms, especially the kitchen, could use a bit more light. We brought some of the lamps from upstairs rooms that we were not using. Surrounding Area: The Chateau and cafe. Nearby Events or Locales: It was right in the middle of town Tips or Restaurants: There was nothing in the way of spices except salt and pepper. Bring some if you plan to cook. The InterMarche had a good selection of all the grocery items you would need. Directions: We used a GPS to get everywhere. It was simple to get to the local areas. Check In Out: Caretakers greeted us.

Overall: Very good to almost excellent. The apartment was spacious. The terrace was exactly a advertised....large, quiet, and inviting. The owner/host is most gracious and excellent for any questions, or needs....very accommodating. Her having a number of food items in the kitchen and refrigerator for us upon arrival was very gracious, along with the bottle of wine. Enjoyed Most: The location, the space within the apartment, the owner, the terrace, and the extra and small amenities that are included, such as the highly equipped kitchen. Enjoyed Least: The stairway to the upper bedroom is rather steep. Surrounding Area: That it is not in Avignon.....so no crowds, easy walking to many restaurants, and a few shops....and their weekly market is fantastic. Tips or Restaurants: Not really, small things: Think about getting some ice, use Yelp! for dining recommendations...we found them to be spot-on. Be sure to go to the weekly Thursday market right in town a few blocks away.....a very, very good market. Directions: We used GPS and would recommend that highly. The written instructions we had were good, a bit confusing at the very beginning just out of the train station, but I would blame us for that, more than the directions. Check In Out: No, Danielle, met us upon arrival, and was sure to be up and say good-bye on the day we left rather early in the morning. She could not have been more accommodating or helpful.

Overall: Perfect. Enjoyed Most: Everything. Enjoyed Least: The downstairs bedroom's bathroom is shared with the laundry and the lock wasn't easy to use. Surrounding Area: Everything, many beautiful towns within 30-40 kms. Nearby Events or Locales: Yes, but it was very small. Tips or Restaurants: Nothing was missing. They have really thought of everything. Directions: Yes, we had a GPS and the directions were very clear. Check In Out: The owners greeted us and said goodbye even though we left early in the morning

Overall: First, this is a huge and beautiful old house, painstakingly and lovingly restored. The design has real character, the decor is distinctive and every room exudes a kind of personal touch that only a proud owner carrying out the work for their own pleasure can achieve. Enjoyed Most: Plumbing throughout is modern, even luxurious, which I mention here because plumbing is not always the highest priority in France. The kitchen also is well appointed, fully stocked with all utensils one could reasonably need, and we liked the way the kitchen was part of the main living room which meant that whoever was cooking was not cut off from the flow of conversation. The owners were staying in the house next door which I would normally regard as a negative, but in this case they were a very pleasant and helpful couple and we enjoyed having them around. My younger daughter had her first birthday while we were there and we were really pleased that the owners baked a birthday cake for her. On a more neutral note, the grounds of the house are very large and the setting by the river very beautiful. However, little landscaping has been done as of yet so that there was no "garden" as such. I am sure the owners intend to address this. Enjoyed Least: There was no swimming pool. I would not have booked this property if I had realized this - although one was not advertised on the web site. The immediate area disappoints. To the west, there is Saint Emilion and the glories of Bordeaux but this is about an one hour drive away. To the east, there is the beauty of the Dordogne but it takes over a one hour drive to get to any of the beautiful towns and villages. Surrounding Area: We did not find the immediate area to be of much interest.
