“I completed an order from look fantastic and as a thank you got offered a “free trial box” from SimplyCook. At no point was it clear I was then signing up to a subscription. They took £11.78 out of my bank and I couldn’t see a direct debit set up on my bank or in my subscriptions, so was unable to cancel it myself.
Once I highlighted it to their customer service they let me know they have cancelled it for me and were apologetic, which was nice.
I’m sure the spices are nice. However, completely deceitful service.”
“I was so disgusted by the fact this company tried to fraudulently set me up into paying for their subscription through a deceptive ‘free trial’ of one box.
I signed up through PureGym. Simply Cook took my debit details, and advertised I would receive a ‘free trail of 1 box’ with NO mention of a subscription service. Once I realised I was misled into paying the £9.99 monthly subscription free, I went to cancel the free trial but they don’t allow you to do this until AFTER the 7 day free trial has ended. By which time they would have already taken full payment from your debit card.
I threatened them via email and said I would make a formal complaint with my bank if they did not cancel my free trail immediately. Why would you not allow a customer to cancel a free trial and make them wait until it has ended and they have been charged the full price before they have the option to cancel!
DISGUSTING. FRAUDULENT AND RIDICULOUS.
This company should be taken of the market. To add insult to injury, the pots are half empty and one of them arrived leaking.”
“Subscribed without my permission after having the £1 trial box. This is to inform about a debit amount of £11.78 from my bank account. This is a fraudulent act and needs to be reported as there was no permission for a direct debit.
I had never subscribed to any plan or any order commitment. I had once opted for a £1 trial pack. I believe the refund will be made at the earliest, failing to which we would need to report this to the concerned authorities.”
“Subscribed without my permission after having the £1 trial box. It’s taken 3 months to get them to cancel it (they don’t give you an online account so you can’t cancel yourself). They are now ignoring my requests for a refund.”
“I have all the herbs and spices in my kitchen
Only tried it because it was a gift voucher, now they have taken 10 pounds from my account without any notice or any communication. Scam if you ask me. I'm going to see how "SIMPLE" it is to get my refund.”
“I wish I read the reviews before I ordered the £1 trial. I now think this company is dodgy. They took £1 from both myself and a friend and we’ve never received our orders. Imagine they must be doing this to thousands of people. Imagine the money they’re raking in without shipping our orders. Definitely steer clear of them.”
“Free gift is rubbish. You are really signing up to subscribe. They will send more after free gift and charge. I don’t know if the product is good or not but would never order off anyone who tries to con you.”
“They charged me after I cancelled and waited the second I got paid to charge me, don’t even bother buying the meals for the free trial. Very scammy and deceptive service”
“SimplyCook asks people to pay £1 for delivery to get a free sample, and then once the payment has been processed they tell you that the box is on the way and that you have now committed to regular deliveries with SimplyCook just sending random stuff if you don't order anything. And when cancelling the regular delivery SimplyCook then tells you that the initial offer to try a box is not anymore available.”
“I ordered a sample box online and decided not to subscribe. I did not set up an account login as it was simply a single order. Subsequently I was bombarded with marketing emails without having subscribed - I managed to get these stopped.
Less than 1 month later my credit was charged as if I had subscribed. I had to write to hello@simplycook.com and demand a refund and the deletion of my credit card details. I also managed to get logged on to an account set up in my name by following a "Forgotten password" dialogue and cancelled all future deliveries.
I am very unhappy with, what I consider to be, the underhanded sales and marketing practices of Simply Cook.”
“Same as everyone else who had reviewed- I wished I had seen these before signing up for the £1 free trial. Their app and website are designed BADLY (deliberately?) to not include tracking of your orders, no way to see your subscriptions, but super easy to click what to add to your next boxes, which is extremely confusing (by design I guess) that you can’t know if you’ve ordered the free trial, or like I did- added repeated order because there isn’t any confirmation on app/ website or email. I only realized when my card was charged £.9.99, I blocked it immediately and wrote an email to Simply Cook. They replied and told me what I have done- and said I can keep the second box with 50% refund. Or that I can return the box via Royal Mail which I’ll have to pay postage.
I don’t think they are scammers but their website and app design really need to be improved and more user friendly or else it’s hard to think it’s not done deliberately to get people charged for service they didn’t want. Very disappointing and frustrating experience. Will not continue.”
“They have fraudulent practices as I received an unauthorised charge for a box without having subscribed to one or even picking a subscription let alone recipes. I've tried getting in touch with them and they have not responded to my email either.
I will now have to contact my bank to decline any charges from this company in the future.”
“Signed up for a free box, just seen today they are trying to take £12 when i know i cancelled the membership. Even have proof i've cancelled. I'll get the money back from my credit card company, but wow what thieving tw*ts they are.”
“I am disgusted. Simply Cook send fresh produce including meat via royal mail. My box has not arrived after 3 days and I was told to wait 3-5 WORKING days for delivery from date of dispatch. This is disgusting. Would you leave a packet of chicken in a box for 5 days then cook and eat it?... I will be throwing the whole lot in the bin. And most certainly won't use you again”
“Difficult to cancel after starting the trial. You have to wait seven days after which you forget. No reminder the next box is coming. Very scammy
simply explained”
