I just loved this tour. Our tour guide Isabel was just wonderful and took such great care of us. The tour had the perfect balance of seeing places with the tour group and having time for yourself while in each city, of which there were many. I was especially glad that the tour did not have the full 40 participants or I don't believe I would have enjoyed it as much. The guides in each city provided wonderful and interesting information about the history of what we were seeing, e.g the Colosseum in Rome, Pompeii, Assisi, Pisa etc. The rooms at each hotel were very nice and everything was taken care of for us i.e. luggage, tickets for museums, wine trips. I wasn't as enamored with the dinners provided and I wasn't alone in that sentiment. That being said, overall it was a wonderful adventure and I would definitely recommend Smartours to others. Thank you so much for a trip of a lifetime!!

This was a very poorly planned and poorly organized tour. We were given an unnecessarily large amount of free time with virtually no guidance on how to navigate on our own or suggestions of local museums, restaurants, affordable shopping areas, bus routes, etc. Particularly in Rome: SmarTours should have known that the first Sunday of the month was a no-fee day for Rome's major tourist attractions. Instead, we were left to flounder around on our own the entire Sunday, and four major sites were crammed into Monday, our last day in Rome. Rome was crowded with tourists, which made the tour even more unpleasant. I chose October assuming the major tourist season was past. I would have appreciated a warning from SmarTours. Because we were left on own a lot, I ended up walking a lot more than I anticipated that the regular tourist season has been expanded for some cities in Europe. I would have made another choice. I came home deeply exhausted and disappointed in my experience of Italy. I no longer have confidence in SmarTours. If you can do so badly in familiar places, I wonder how you will manage in less traveled areas. I will not sign up for another SmarTours tour, and I will not recommend your company to others.

I came to India to see the Taj Mahal and experienced so much more! Jessie is a wonderful storyteller and it felt as though we were on a magical journey through India’s history. From the palaces to the temples and even the traffic, India was unlike any place I had ever been.

This was my fifth smarTours trip but over the past twenty five years I have been fortunate to take over fifty land tours and for quality and value smarTours rates number one for me. This China trip was exceptional. Great itinerary and Sun (Harry) was an exceptional Tour Director in every respect. Hotels were first class and well located. This is a demanding tour - lots of walking and many many steps to climb if you want to get the most from the tour. China in summer is very very hot so bear that in mind. Also , you will eat Chinese cuisine for most lunches and dinners. Hotels offer American food at breakfast. China is an experience not to miss. The cities cannot be beaten anywhere in the world. Beautiful stunning architecture spectacular at night. Trains that are super fast and run on time. Airports that are modern -and beautiful and where we had of our best meals while waiting for our flight! The whole country was super clean with never any graffiti. All of the Chinese people we met were friendly and helpful. Of course there is a language problem but many of the most young people speak some English. Yes, this is still a Communist country but paradoxically one that seems able to be at the same time very Capitalist and entrepreneurial. Without being a regime booster one can still look objectively particularly at our decrepit crumbling infrastructure in particular and ask ‘ where did we go wrong’? It was my first visit for twenty six years and the new China took my breath away. The old China of the Middle Kingdom also still offers incredible experiences such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Terra-cotta Warriors and the exquisite River LI and theYangtse River

We recently traveled to Southern Africa and the trip went beyond our expectations. There were a variety of cultural, historical, and environmental activities. Our tour guide made sure that everyone on the tour was comfortable and engaged. By the end of the tour, we were no longer strangers. My son has challenges walking long distances and our tour guide arranged for a wheelchair for him at several stops so that he could participate with comfort. This is our second smarTours but it will definitely not be the last.

Portugal was a great trip. We had an awesome guide (Nina). She was very organized, so getting in and out of hotels was easy and efficient. She was also very knowledgeable about Portugese history, culture, and the sights we saw. We covered a lot of ground and saw many sights that we would not have seen on our own. We needed more time in Porto and Lisbon! We liked the flexibility of the Smartours, eating on our own and being able to do the excursions that we were interested in. One thing you should know about Portugal if you are thinking of visit there, is that it is very hilly and mountainous. If you have trouble with stairs or climbing hills, it is not an easy trip. This was our first smart tour, and we were very pleased.

Elvis, the tour guide and the bus driver, Milan were terrific. They ran a seamless experience filled with wonderful sights and a lot of information. However, I am disappointed in Smartours and their Smartraveler program . After doing 7 trips, I was told I needed this one to complete my status even though they sent me an email on June 27th informing me that I was a Smartraveler. I feel there is no customer appreciation of loyalty and I will most likely not travel with Smartours again.

The cruise portion was awful - very old boat and not well kept, food awful and one fellow passenger got bug bites most likely from mattress. Bus was old with broken seats. The crew was very nice and did the best with what was there. Granville and other tour leader were terrific as well as bus driver.

Excellent experience. The best tour director-guide. He was knowledgeable, concerned about each person and maintained our daily schedule on time. The city’s selected for this trip to Spain was an excellent choice.

The tour was hectic! It was very informative and very well organized. Here are a few comments for your consideration. The Abu Simbel tour on Monday felt like a “drive by.” That morning we had to wake up at 3:30 am to fly to Aswan and take the connecting flight to Abu Simbel. We took three flights by 3:00 pm that day. Goodness! I have flown for business all my life and never had a crazy schedule like that. It is just too much packed into one day. You should add a day so that Abu Simbel and Aswan can be enjoyed at a more leisurely pace. Next comment: the pricing on some optional tours seemed odd. $36.00 to go to the Luxor Museum when the entrance fee is about $5.00? The charge of $160.00 for the balloon ride seemed high when several folks on TripAdvisor report that the cost is $95.00. Finally, while Smartours advises us on tipping guidelines we were unprepared for the multiple “opportunities” for tipping that we encountered. Tips for security, tips for bathroom attendants, tips for any and everyone who looked at us...or so it felt. We enjoyed our trip but Egypt is such a history lesson that we felt that we would have enjoyed it better had we done the trip at a more leisurely pace. The last day in Cairo was rushed. We did not have enough time at the market or at the Cairo Museum. On a positive note, the hotels and the ship were great! The Cairo Marriott is an architectural marvel. The food was wonderful everywhere and copious and the Egyptian people were welcoming and friendly. Our tour director Khaled was wonderful: a font of information on his country’s history. If I had to design this trip, I would do it at a more leisurely pace so that I could truly enjoy this rich country.
