Poor customer service and unexplained extra charges. I had my renewal price and found that the premium had increased more tha expected then, in addition, an extra, non refundable charge was added due to an ongoing no fault claim. I also find that the contact telephone number is a chargeable number which led to my phone bill increasing by £30 due to waiting time on the phone. One call lasted 50 minutes which is unacceptable.

I telephone Swinton Insurance and instructed them not to renew my car insurance policy as I had a quote which was over half the cost, despite my call they still took the renewal premium. Although to be fare there customer services and complaints team handling the issue well and refunded me. But the error shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Got a great price to start with run my van 8 months then it chucked it was basically scrap bought a car as van prices had been increased considerably and the new insurance company asked for proof of no claims contacted swinton after 30 mins on hold after connected to someone they wanted 88 pounds to cancel the policy held to ransom for MY NCB that I earned put under pressure basically to accept or I wouldn’t get anywhere feel robbed and cheated I would avoid at all costs if I needed van insurance ever again…..

I was insured with for 6 months until I changed my car. The website wouldn’t let me online to change so had to phone. When I provided them new car details they refused to insure it, car was only 2 years younger and same c.c. But they said it couldn’t be insured and I would need to go through a new quote! They then tried to charge 6.5x than the existing policy. So was forced to cancel the policy but they charged me cancellation fee, which I don’t feel they should’ve! I checked online and all the main big companies, comparison sites etc all were only circa £100 more than my previous policy. Now because I cancelled half way through I won’t gain NCD points and will have to wait 18 months until I gain more NCD! Lesson learned do not use this company

Swinton - When you are unfortunate enough to face a damaged windscreen that cannot be repaired, Swinton only allow you to use one of two windscreen repair companies that they prefer unless you want to pay more toward the repair !! - The excess they state on the policy is not in some cases all you pay example is -> The replacement screen is £300 your excess is £75 and Swinton say we will pay up to £150 - Thats right YOU are going to pay the difference which in this case is £125 thats right , on top of the £75 you have to pay so thats £200 You pay in total, and because THEY dictate who repairs your screen when you request a repair you can be made to wait in excess of 8 days - we were !!! - why do Swinton care which windscreen company repairs your screen do they only trust these two companies - why isnt the policy simply worded to read WINDSCREEN REPAIR - we pay upto £150 for windscreen replacement you pay the difference and you must use our repairers otherwise we will pay less toward your repair? - my wife has a 7 day wait to repair and is also faced with driving her vehicle with what could be an illegal screen or not using her car during this period , ... Nice one Swinton !!!

Overall average company. I needed to cancel my policy couse i got injured, and they havent noticed me that i had 1 no claim bonus.. .

Read The Small Print! My cover was only £67, i wanted to cancel the insurance after 10months, they wanted an extra £50 even though the cover was paid up!! Be careful, small print says £25 charge if you cancel within 3months, £25 charge if you cancel within 6 minths and £25 charge if you cancel within 6 months of cover ending!! Clever little rip off merchants Be careful

I renewed my motor insurance with Swinton insurance brokers and was eventually quoted a figure of £586. I paid it but as a mater of interest contacted the AA who quoted £386. I am now wondering where the £200 is actually going as the insurance was provided by the same company AXA 35. I have requested a refund which has been promised within 5 days. AA good Swinton BAD. I have dealt with this company since 1975. Never again.

asked them to change the date payment was taken , was told no problem. then they tried to take it on the date they original set , a week before i got paid, so they added £30 to it and tried again 7 days later. by then i also had £15 charge from the bank as they was no money in the account

Expensive policy then wanted copy of my licence and v5 after I took out the policy and was abroad so sending threat emails about cancelling even tho I had a family member replying to the letters explaining I'm away in Kenya will not be using once policy ends will not recommend to anyone

Terrible car insurer, the company cancelled my policy without any notice not even a letter through the post which resulted in my car being taken by the police because I had no insurance! Yet swinton continued taking payments from my account. I wouldn't insure anything with them again!

Swindon said they had not received my proof of no claims bonus in the stated time but I had sent it. They cancelled my policy and penalised me £75 if I did not take out a second insurance with them. After much arguing I took out the second policy as I could not afford to lose £75. This policy was much more expensive than the original one as they do not to give cheaper insurance to people who had their policy cancelled although they were the ones who cancelled the policy (unfairly) that day. The people on the phone were arrogant, rude and totally uncaring. They did not listen to what I had to say. They were prepared to leave me with no insurance and also penalise me severely in the process. They also take out £2:10 out my account each month and I cannot establish what that is for. Needless to say I would NOT recommend Swinton insurance. I am still insured with them as I cannot afford to change to another company.

Policy easy enough to set up. The ncb was sent to the wrong office as a result the policy was cancelled and the staff in the offices were truly awfull to deal with.

I was involved in an accident on 9th December 2014 which i reported immediately,(as soon as the office was open).I gave details,then was put through to another department which turned out to be Quindell solicitors,who Swintons seem to be linked with in some way.They kept me on the phone for 24 minutes,(0800 numbers are not free on mobile networks),which the first of quite a few costly calls.All Quindell were interested in was a personal injury claim,which i didn't pursue.Wrong decision..After several weeks of non comunication,i called Swintons to enquire as to the progress of proceedings,only to find out that they had no idea what i was talking about..By some act of gross incompetence,the details of my accident had not been passed on to the relavent insurance company,who were blissfully unaware that the incident had even occurred..More expensive phone calls ensued,both to my insurance company and the third partys'...To date,the matter has still not arrived at a satisfactory conclusion,almost FIVE months after the incident occured.And i am out of pocket,with a damaged vehicle..Needless to say,i will not be using Swintons again,and i will be relaying my experience,through the medium of social media ,to warn the general insurance buying public of the potential folly of doing so....I will also now begin following the insurance industrys' complaints procedure.
