“I couldn’t decide on a colour for months, unsure of what would suit me. I changed my mind last minute and chose golden brown. When the package arrived it had everything I needed and the instructions were clear and straight forward. The colour looked quite reddish when I was applying which made me a little nervous, but when it washed out the colour was beautiful and suited me very well. The shampoo and conditioner included were also really nice. I have recommended The Shade to everyone who likes to colour their hair and I’ll be buying it again when I want to colour my hair again. I chose the option that washes out the fastest incase I wasn’t a fan but I’ll choose the most permanent option next time. It was difficult but doable to colour my own hair and one pack was enough, but if anyone has longer hair two packs is definitely a good option for even coverage.”

“I have been using The Shade for a few years now to cover my greys. Blend 2 colours 'Verona chocolate brown and Trieste light copper brown. Love the colour. Use permanent colour on my roots and a semi permanent colour on the rest of my hair.”

“I cannot believe how much money I have saved since switching to colouring my hair with The Shade! My last hairdressers appointment cost over $500 and i was in there for over 7 hours! As a mum of 4 with a FIFO hubby, i dont have the time (or the money) to do this consistently so as a result, I kept putting off getting my hair done until it looked terrible. “Using The Shade's subscription service has been a game changer for me. I live in a small country town and the knowledge that I will have my colour of choice in my hot little hand on schedule is so fantastic I can't even put it into words. I have thick, shoulder length hair and there is plenty of colour in one pack for good coverage. I use a demi permanent and it is gentle on my hair and gives good grey coverage (of which I have many). The mix is gentle on my hair, and the Dark Ash Blonde colour I have chosen doesn't fade to orange like many other colours I have used, or leave a horrid build up on the ends of my hair. So, so happy. If you are a home "colourist" I cannot recommend the shade enough.”

“The consultation process was amazing. I was very excited to get the box. The box was very exciting too, lots in it and great instuctions. But I had the consultation and ordered the Sorrento 9.1 Light Ash Blonde with vol. 10 developer as directed to counteract orange tone in my hair and after following the instructions to the letter my hair is... exactly the same. Very disappointed. Was trying to avoid going back to the hairdresser, but now I'll have that expense in addition to this one.”

“I absolutely love using The Shade hair colouring at home! It’s so easy and completely hassle-free. I really appreciate that it’s free from harsh chemicals – there’s no strong smell and no stinging on my scalp when I apply it. “Great coverage - I have hairline greys that pop out every 2 weeks (due to pregnancy and fast hair growth) and watching the greys whilst waiting for a salon appointment was unbearable. Purchased the Ash Brown kit to try on advice from my hair dresser and now I am grey free, I use the kit to top up the roots and it blends perfectly to the end colour. Easy to apply and no smell which is great.”

“Unfortunately, it gave me scalp irritation and rashes which had to be treated with medication. Attched photos which is after 3 days of steroid medication. I kept the colour only for 10 mins and had to wash off due to reaction. So I couldn't speak much of colour though. When i checked with the colour consultation i have mentioned about the scalp condition yet this was suggested to me.”

Hi Saroja, Sorry to hear that you have had a reaction to our products. We do strongly recommend that all new customers perform an Allergy Alert Test prior to applying to your hair. Full instructions for this test are found on the Instruction Card in the Colour Kit. We only hear of that reaction very rarely, but it generally is because of an allergy to an ingredient in our colour. Our colour formula has eliminated some of the key ingredients in permanent colour which can trigger allergic reactions (such as PPD) but there are lots of other ingredients in our colour and you may be allergic of any of them. Some of our colours have slightly different ingredients than others, so we have listed the ingredients for each colour separately, which you can find here: https://theshade.com.au/ingredients/ , together with the ingredients for all our other products including the developer which you mix with the colour. So the best thing to do is select a specific colour and check its ingredients. We advise that you do not use our products if you have had an allergic reaction to them and that you see a GP. It would be useful to know exactly what ingredient you are allergic too, and your doctor should be able to help with that, which will then help you avoid products with that ingredient in the future.
