“I absolutely love The Shade hair colour. It is non-irritating, does not have that awful ammonia smell and lasts longer than the store bought colours. The shampoo and conditioner is fantastic and leaves my hair soft and healthy. And the customer service is just great! I am happy to be a customer!”

Hi Amanda, Sorry you weren't happy with your colour. You coloured with a darkest brown + dark brown combination. If you saw a black colour result from that colour blends, that indicates that your hair over-absorbed the colour, leading to a darker colour result. That indicates that your hair may be porous as porous hair can over-absorb colour. Hair can have increased porosity if it has previously been lightened (particularly repeated lightening processes), if it is damaged, or some natural hair textures such as curly or very fine hair can naturally be more porous. Going forward, if your hair is dry or damaged, then it is best to try to boost and improve the condition of your hair to reduce porosity, and also to bear in mind that you are likely to have darker colour results so to adjust your colour selection to bear that in mind. We can advise how to soften your colour and a colourist will be in touch to provide further advice. I can see that you contacted our colourist team for advise yesterday afternoon (Sunday). “Purchased the the shade black! Application was smooth, colour turned out vibrant, product smells delightful as no crazy chemical smell. And bonus was easy to wash off the skin. I would 100% recomend this just make sure you get the bowl and brush”

“I found my whole experience with The Shade to be fantastic. I’ve started using home hair dyes in the last year as the cost and time to go to a salon was just not feasible anymore. I was sick of the hit and miss results of supermarket kits so turned to The Shade hoping for a better result and I’m so happy I did. I uploaded my mess of a before picture, dodgy patchwork colour and greys taking over, and a colourist matched me based on my desired results. I had a slight issue with the order when it came, which was really my doing after messing up promo codes, and they rectified the situation immediately and sent me what I needed to get started. The results are fantastic after only one use my colour is so much fresher and more professional looking. My hair felt so healthy after and I’m looking forward to using it again through my subscription and keep improving on my results. 10/10 would recommend.”

“My first time using this hair colour. I had previously used box dyes which require a root touch up every 2 weeks to keep grey hair at bay. And they fade out very quickly. So far it's been 2 weeks and while my greys are GROWING out, the colour has not faded out nor have the existing greys faded out. Pretty impressive. I am quite pleased so far. I am not a fan of the smell of the colour or the conditioner in the box though. Still better than smelling ammonia any day. TBC... I'll keep using and see how it goes for root work and recolour later.”

“I used a duo mix of 8 / 7.43 to get an auburn shade on my mid brown hair. My hair was a washed out light copper with grey in my regrowth so decided to use the permanent colour. Applied to the roots first then the rest of my hair. The thickness of the mix is good, it doesnt run and doesnt have a chemical smell. I have a sensitive scalp and didnt have any problems after using. The conditioner is great, left my hair very soft and shiny and again doesnt have a strong smell. Very pleased with the finished result and I will be using this going to the future as its easier and cheaper than going to the hairdressers every 8 weeks. Recommended!”

“The Shade colour is good covers greys easily, this is my first time using so I don't know how long it lasts or if it fades and washes out quickly. The only bad thing is the smell...yuk sorry but it reminded me of when you walk past some old chainsmoker and they smell like stale smoke. It was a weird smell I expected a herbal or floral smell. Not sure if I will repurchase it again, I might be able to tolerate the smell if it wears well.”
