Feels like they’re charging premium $$ for a Beta version of their software. Premium features (Tidal) don’t work consistently, and the pricing model doesn’t make sense. I can buy a new dedicated Tidal connect device for the price of a three year volumio subscription, and I won’t have to supply the hardware. Not worth the price for the premium subscription if all you want is tidal connect

I liked the fact that you can install it on a USB drive (that's exactly what I did). Tested in the free version playing DSD format. I set the volume in the Volumio program interface to 30%, on the amplifier the volume control was turned off for about 11 hours. Launched the DSD file. Volumio reproduced a sound similar to "white noise" at maximum volume. After that, on my acoustics, the high-frequency speakers + high-frequency filter capacitors + tubes in the preamplifier failed. I'm not sure about the lamps, maybe it's a coincidence. This happened when playing the DSD format in the free version, the volume control in the Volumio interface does not work and the DSD format is played at 100% volume, only instead of the music itself, a sound similar to "white noise" is played, but if you raise the volume to 100%, then already music is playing. This is, in part, my fault, because before that I used Foobar and there is the same problem. Then I signed up a Volumio test Premium account and everything is in order there, the sound is regulated. It took about 1 month to restore my audio path. It's a shame, but I didn't manage to listen to Volumio normally. It would probably not be bad to make a warning in the interface of the free Volumio before playing the DSD format.

The value is just not there. All I want is Tidal connect. I'm not going to pay for premium just to get access to that one feature.

It basically works like it should. BUT the mobile app is SO non-intuitive to use. The back-button is not used in the same way as 10.000.000+ other apps. Third party app like 'VolumioControl' works way, way better. And the feature-set for the free version is just too lacking and the benefits in the paid version is not worth it for me, since I have no need for music from outside my network.

great interface, nice integration with the cell phone app, the visuals are spot on. unfortunately high priced plan with the pay for tier (I can get pandora, with content for 2 dollars more a month), duplicates free software, need to have a server to stream the music besides the app. does not "enhance" the audio by upconverting (the data is gone once it's gone). smoke and mirrors.

Works good but way too expensive to stream lossless music and lack of support to streaming services such as apple music, amazon music even at the premium price. Also, I do prefer to have inbuilt DSP as an option. Thanks.

Actually the specs of Volumio at first sounded pretty good. Espescially the possibility to use a Qobuz plugin. But the obligation to create an account and the necessity of a subscription led me to look further. I hate subscription plans, because you f***ed if the provider has authentification server problems, or there are DNS issues. I had that with adobe and ditched Lightroom because of this. I already pay for using Qobuz and that's okay. But at least 60€ extra per year in addition to that, just to play Qobuz, is way to much. I would have probably paid 50 bucks for a one-time purchase of the plugin. But now, using BubbleUPnP, works brilliantly for me. Now I run moOde Audio in combination with an open home BubbleUPnP-server on my streamers, and I'm very happy with it. This way, I don't need an account and I don't need to pay for it monthly. I'm happy to make a donation for it, though. If I'd be in the market for a serious streaming solution, it would be probably Audirvana or Roon.

Loved the software but stopped using it since the new version no longer has the snapcast support.

The trend of taking self hosted devices on personal networks and forcing them to have accounts is unwanted.

As soon as Volumio 3 has the same Plugins available than Volumio 2, i will give a better Review. But some important Plugins are missing, for example the Autostart / Autoplay Plugin
Helpful Report
Volumio 2 was great now Volumio 3 requires a login to use plugins. And a lot of the volumio 2 plugins are missing.

The software needs to be tested and hardened more; two reboots and you can reinstall and setup the whole stuff again. Besides that: when starting up after a new install, set the volume to 30 instead of 100! Attaching a NAS-share need to be documented a bit more than what is mentioned in the software at present (foreward of backward slashes in path for instance)

Tidal connect only occasionally works, and only for a single track on raspberry pi 3 and zero W. The built in tidal support is ok, but nowhere near the same user experience as the main tidal app.

I think it's bad that they removed the GPIO Control plugin!!!

works ok except for the most important feature for me- TIDAL INTEGRATION, which brings me pretty close to my breaking point where i say "to hell with this" and move on to a more stable environment. how hard can it be to sync two apps together every few seconds??? every other vender is doing so this so easily, as it should be!

Reliability with the current version is very very poor. Pre v3, things worked well enough (Although seeking past what is buffered does not work). But v3 is very broken. Specifically, it crashes often requiring a restart & loses connection to Tidal Connect while you are playing. I look forward to the issues with v3 being resolved, as Volumio is brilliant, when it is working.

Would not reliably play music. App kept freezing and was unable to get it to pass MQA to my MQA DAC. Unsubscribed and uninstalled.

I subscribed to MyVolumio mainly to be able to use Tidal Connect, and it does not work properly. I am not able to stream songs in Hifi quality and the connection drops frequently. I've reached out to Customer Support, which did not gave a solution neither a workaround. Also, the lack of UI theming or customization makes it unappealing as a web player. It comes with three UI themes only, and they are not only hard to use but also ugly as hell.

Volumio is a well designed product. The monthly price is a bit steep and it doesn't work on my Cambridge devices. It work on my Pie Dacs, but so do other free players of similar quality. So Volumio is not right for me.
