Works well but cant figure out how to play randomly from my collection

The platform is unstable. It regularly looses contact signal with the streamer. You have to restart the strwamer to regain contact. In play lists, it frequently skips to the next song when in the middle of playing one. I am in the process of changing my streamer purely so I can get rid of Volumio.

I wanted music in a smaller room without spending too much cash. Volumio with a Pi 4 and some bookshelf speakers provides a quality simple solution. Volumio has never crashed and is stable. I use a NAS with over 13,000 songs that can either play as they were on any album in order or I can search, but I don't use that much. While I use the web interface to control Volumio I have used my iPhone also. My 13,000 songs were "ripped" from my large CD collection. Volumio is quicker and more convenient than playing music via the CD player and sounds just as good. Volumio is easy to use and for a free product is a quality option to stream your music. I am using a DAC+ Hat with a Raspberry Pi4. I may add a touch screen to control Volumio in the future. Instead of a USB flash drive, a 265GB USB SSD is used for the NAS plugged directly into the Raspberry Pi4, so that ensures reliability and peak performance.

It's good, but could be so much better. The UI has not changed in several years, and has always been just a bit too slow to be a commercial product. Unless this is fixed, it does not bode well for Volumio, unfortunately, as hardware and player makers are more likely to make their own software rather than license volumio.

I love that Volumio exists, and what you get for free is fantastic, but there are a lot of frustrating elements. The plugin ecosystem seems much worse than it was a few years ago, and it feels like the product development has been drastically moving away from the free tier and more in the direction of absurdly priced hardware and paid plans. Volumio is still awesome, but I have little faith in the direction is going, so I'm setting my rating to build in the future I expect. This space is wide open for an open source project that has a different direction. See what Home Automation has done with their community; Volumio is in a very similar market and is doing a much, much worse job in my opinion.

Using Volumio on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ in our holiday home and that works great the Pi has a HiFiBerry DAC connected to a set of Yamaha active speakers Using the building WiFi it's easy to control with a mobile phone and the iOS Volumio app

I've run several versions of Volumio over the years on the same hardware (rPi3b, HifiBerry HAT clone). Library management, connection to SMB shares to play LAN files etc, always worked well but I had a perpetual struggle to get my primary use case (Spotify endpoint) working reliably. Volume control was also hit-or-miss at best, but that _might_ have been my cheap hardware / fixable with more tuning. Switched to Moode (with the bonus of using a Bluetooth connection for other streaming) and haven't looked back.

I love it. I have all my music stored on a NAS drive so rarely use Volumio to directly stream from Spotify, though, I probably would if Volumio supported Spotify lossless streaming. I have a large CD collection (stored as FLAC) and I find that playing these off of my NAS drive, via Volumio, to be more convenient. My Volumio is Pi 4 based with a DAC hat and although not the prettiest I am more than happy with the sound quality. The interface is satisfactory though it would be nice to have some search features if using locally source music rather than a streaming service. I'm using the latest software and have found Volumio to be very stable. Music starts up instantly and plays without any stuttering. Great. I love Volumio.

The player constantly crashes when connected with any connection to my Holo Spring 3, which works flawlessly with everything else. Regardless, the retailer, in concert with the local distributer, is trying to force me to complete the purchase. We're going before the Tribunal to resolve that. The manufacturer ghosted me after two emails. Be wary.

I have managed to use Volumio from version 2, 3 and now the new 4, and it has been flawless. I have pretty easy requirements (1700 local MP3s/flacs and mostly WEB Radio). I've never had Volumio fail to play any and all of my content. It's a terrific app, and being able to run it on el cheapo Raspberry Pi hardware is a huge plus. The only hitch I've every had was the new version 3 didn't have the right entry for my hat-based DAC but the incredible support from Volumio had that fixed quickly. My only gripes are two items: - The HTTP app does not use HTTPS encryption, so I'm constantly telling my browser this app is okay without a certificate - The security is pretty lame with a username of 'volumio' and the same for the password. I've managed to work around this with a strong Linux password, but I have to change it back to the lame password every time I do an update/upgrade.

Volumio is a great streaming OS/Application that can run on Raspberry Pi computers or personal computers (I haven't tried this version yet). After going through the setup process a few times now, it is pretty easy to get up and running. I also have a WIIM Ultra streamer and Volumio on the Raspberry Pi is very similar albeit without as many inputs and outputs. It works great for me, although I have had a few issues getting interfaces such as screen output and Peppy Meter working consistently. Overall, I would recommend Volumio.

System had good features but suffered some responsiveness/stability issues (needing to restart server etc.). Eventually opted for a commercial product.

Love Volumio, both the system and the hardware. Have found the system ultra stable and reliable with no hitches with connecting or playback. I have their Rivo Plus and Preciso and they sound superb.

Great to use as standalone device. I wanted to set up multiroom - Volumio only does this via subscription. I'd have happily paid a one off fee but I didn't want to commit to monthly/yearly fees so I switched to Lyrion Music Server / piCorePlayer (now running on 4 x Pi Zero W with HiFiBerry DACs and Fosi amps). It works really well, no regrets switching!

Without paying for as subscription it is not worth using. Only Spotify worked and I'm only interested in Tidal So, I no longer use volumio.

Without paying for as subscription it is not worth using. Only Spotify worked and not reliably. I ditched Spotify for deezer which wasn't supported. I no longer use volumio.

Has worked flawlessly in my system since for a couple of years now. Double thumbs up.

Plays back FLAC files from a NAS or DNLA server perfectly, no qualms. Feeds the best signal I could ask for a DIY transport (Raspberry Pi 5) to my DAC. However this is a given as a Premium subscriber to handle purchased music FLAC files to this level. My gripe remains with the inability to negotiate with Spotify to have a lossless playback licence. Volumio is not the only company guilty here (so is Bowers & Wilikins on some other item I own). However £50 per annum is a steep premium for Premium if all I get is a better UI as incremental upgrades. I don’t want to subscribe to Qobuz (lacks Asian music) or Tidal US hip hop centric, not my music range) for lossless/ hi def. Part of the fun with Volumio is the DIY aspect of the hardware, but it soon gets forgotten if I have to plug my smartphone into the USB port of the DAC every time when I want Spotify lossless playback.
