Great on time service but eye watering price There is a duopoly between Wightlink and Redfunnel both run by venture capitalists. £147 return the most expensive per mile cost in the world ! The reduction in value of Tesco vouchers is also having an effect. As a result the ferries were half full. Make it cheaper and they will come.

Prefer travelling Whitelink but horrified by ever rising costs. Leaves us wondering if we can afford to visit our son and family. Nasty situation to be in.

Never any decent deals or discounts . No reward for loyalty. By product of there being very little choice. A necessity unfortunately . Just seems to get steadily more expensive

Had to wait over an hour and 45 mins on the 26th because of the sickness of a member of your staff, I was due to collect my pet which didn’t happen, so I had to pay extra for her to stay over another night! Not good when we pay an extortionate amount of money as it is for a 45 min crossing, now I’m out of pocket even more!!

Hi Kerry Thank you for your review. I'm very sorry at our failure to provide you with a service you had booked. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to find a replacement for an essential member of our crew. I can only apologise for the impact this had on your travel plans. It sounds like you may be entitled to some compensation for this. For more details, please see the compensation request form on the 'contact us' page of our website. Sorry once again. I do hope you've since been united with your pet.

Hi David I'm glad you find our boats are clean and our staff are friendly. In terms of our fares, I hope you don't mind my copying a reply to another reviewer. It may be of use to you and any other travellers reading this .... Our vehicle fares will increase in line with demand for that crossing. This means you might find lower fares by being more flexible with routes, dates or times - especially on those sailings that fewer customers have booked. There are also other ways customers can save on their fares. It could be worth checking our Discounts and Offers webpage before booking to see if there are any deals that can be taken advantage of (one of the most popular offers is to Boost the value of Tesco Clubcard vouchers by x 3 their value to use with us). Simply hover over the ‘Ferry information’ menu on the top of our website. If you’re staying overnight or longer, it may also be worth checking with your hotel or accommodation provider to see if they offer reduced ferry deals – some may even include ferry travel as part of their packages. Finally, customers signed up to receive our newsletters by email are kept informed of various news, events and special offers we may run from time to time (to sign-up please visit our website). Thanks again for travelling with us. I do hope you find something of interest in the above to help you secure the best possible fare for future travel.

Good when running but not totally reliable which is absolutely critical for those who use it regularly

Hello Michael I'm very to read you've received poor service. We do appreciate the impact travel disruption has on our customers and work hard to reduce any cancellations. Generally speaking, Wightlink’s reliability compares well against that of our competitors’ but I realise this will be of no consolation to any travellers that have been affected. On behalf of Wightlink, my apologies once again for any impact disruption has had on your travel plans with us.

Welcome at entrance unenthusiastic. New ferries lovely but older ones are in poor repair. Never seem to run on time. Poor communication via screen at ports as you can’t actually see it as only one.

Hi there We're so sorry we didn't achieve the levels of service we aim to provide when you travelled with us. A simple, courteous welcome at the entrance gate goes a long way and we're sorry this didn't happen when you sailed with us. We've been working on improving the communication we provide in port and have been installing more screens in our terminals. We do hope you will consider sailing with us again at some point in the future, in part so that we can get the chance to improve your opinion of us.

Ferries delayed both ways, although these things do happen. Costa coffee closed on outbound crossing. Staff friendly. Couldn't understand safety announcements due to poor sound system. Overall, about average service

By moving my ferry off the island to Portsmouth you extended my journey time as I was travelling to Bournemouth. This was done late in the booking and when I rang to see if I could get a ferry to Lyminton i was offered a ferry 5 hours later than my original booking

Good service but disappointed with the delay in the return journey which made us late and we couldn’t drive the rest of the way to our next destination as the weather was dreadful and we were tired so got home a day later than expected

Very expensive crossing. The new Victoria of Wight is excellent, older boats not so good. Staff generally very helpful.

The very expensive crossing even with a 20% discount went without a problem on the way out. Let on quickly as a motorcycle, staff were friendly. Journey back changed the time of booking without any fuss. Problems with the boats propulsion on the way back caused a delay of about 15 minutes but was fine. Overall enjoyed the return journey but very expensive!
