About Mike's Dive Store:

Mike’s London Dive Store may have been established for more than thirty years but its history goes back much further than that. It’s founder, big Mike Calder, was the super-salesman at a dive store in Fulham Palace Road in West London. A local lad who was larger in life than in so many ways, he was so successful at serving divers with the equipment that suited their needs best that people beat a path to his door from all over the country.

Mike was a diver and he believed that if his customers were satisfied they’d return. He took the long view. He was eventually so successful that other dive shop owners even protested he was distorting the market.

It was inevitable that he would set up in business for himself and with the help of a local friend started selling dive equipment from a warehouse at Richmond’s waterside. Eventually he moved the business to the more accessible premises it is in today.

Mike was a giant of the UK’s diving industry in many more ways than one and all who knew him were shocked when he was suddenly taken from us long before his time, in 2009.

Still in his early teens, Scuba Steve started diving in the Sinai in 1989, in the days when Red Sea liveaboard operations were truly pioneering. He accompanied skipper Jan Ellingsen on Colona IV on a 1200 nautical mile trip down to the Sudan and learned to dive on the way. A few exciting encounters with grey reef sharks and he was hooked.

He worked alongside Mike and purchased Mike’s Dive Store when it became available. Mike’s son chose to sell to Steve because he could see that Steve had the same passion as his dad for scuba diving and was confident that he would carry on the tradition of good service and advice from a position of a wealth of knowledge very much as his dad had done.

Mike’s Dive Store is not about shifting boxes of product but having the patience to understand the particular needs and wishes of every one of its individual customers. That’s you!

There are very many aspects to the underwater world and Steve has seen most of them. He instils in his staff this philosophy to only sell the right tools for the job and many of the currently regular customers will tell you that it was Mike sold them their first set of diving equipment. Mike may have passed away but Mike’s Dive Store is alive and well, and Scuba Steve is carrying on the traditions that Mike established for it.

Ordered this on 3 December - Mikes's Dive Store did not appear in Royal Mail System until 12 December and on 16 December still not turned up, will be over two weeks late by the time it turns up, if it ever does. Have tried repeatedly to get Mike's Dive Store to refund the item as will now be too late for my trip. They are not doing so as stating that have to wait for item to turn up, then to send back and only then will they refund. Have asked them to cancel the delivery but they won't. All very poor user experience and will not order from Mike's Dive Store again.

I had been planning on purchasing a new Garmin Descent MK2i for some time now, watching all the reviews and unboxing on youtube. I recently made the decision to purchase this model from Mikes Dive store as I had purchased items from them before. I received this a couple of days after ordering, when opening the box, I was suspicious as there was no seal present. To my surprise all that was in the box was 3 extension straps (1 black, 1 grey & 1 white). I contacted Mikes Dive store, they apologised saying there had been a mixup with the demo's box. They said they would send out the Garmin on next day delivery, I was concerned that they were referring to their demo model and they assured me it would be a BRAND NEW watch (They also said they'd send self-addressed packaging to return the extension straps). This did not arrive the next day, despite me staying in all day, it appeared to be an issue with DPD, so I had to rearrange delivery for 2 further days. This finally arrived and to my dismay, they had sent me their ex-demo model. The new film had been removed from the screen, and although finger prints had been wiped off you could see marks from the oil off skin. Also it was possible to see where the original seal had been peeled off, they could at least made the effort to replace the seal in original position on the box. I am greatly disappointed in spending well over £1000 for basically a secondhand watch. I will not be purchasing anything further from Mikes Dive store and advising everyone to avoid this store.

Had a few issues with Aqualung computers but after a few emails/phone calls all has been satisfactorily sorted out.

Was scheduled to arrive before holiday but didn’t. Can’t answer some delivery questions as still away on holiday, less snorkelling.

I ordered a snorkelling mask which arrived very promptly however it leaks so is useless. When I phoned to ask to return the mask I was told I was unable to get a refund / exchange as I had used it. I would have been more than happy to keep it if it didn't leak and I made sure I could hold it to my face just by breathing in through my nose to create a vacuum prior to using it. Very disappointed.

Sadly the packaging for the fullface mask and photos is deceptive and mis- leading on the inside cardboard advert hat covers the purge valve at chin level is a circle with a red cross stating NO DIVING. It was hiden. Used it once, can't dive with it can't return it. Wasted a small fortune on a misleding product thats turned out to be potentially dangerous as well.

Very poor is a compliment, less then that. I never received my item. The worst experience, for a very normal purchase (9 euro) 22 euro cost of shipping and the item never came for some unidentified and impossible to resolve custumers clearance problems (26 euros to pay extra), nothing of this was in your website, I want my money back

Just to recap you haven't received your item as the duty and clearance was refused at your end, we, unfortunately, are not responsible for the import taxes on the products but we do encourage you to ensure that these are checked prior to purchasing as they vary from country to country. We have contacted the courier for you and requested this is returned to us so we can refund you for your item :)

The service was terrible, I still do not have my watch. I was sent a despatch notice but after 4 days it had not arrived and transpired someone at Mike's had lost in internal screw so the had to send the watch to Suunto. No one has contacted me to tell me what is going on. I still do not have my watch WHERE IS IT WILL SOMEONE CONTACT ME?

Hi Mark, So sorry for the confusion with any notice -we had not sent any to you? As had only just received your watch! This arrived for service on Tuesday (it was only ordered on Friday just before) We then contacted you on Thursday to let you know that our technician noticed the screw had been damaged (this was before it had been serviced) and therefore sent it that same day to Suunto for analysis. This was looked at once they received it and have offered different options for you. Which you are still considering so hope to find the best solution for you shortly :)

I've been asked to review this product which I cannot because I never received it. It was despatched on the 3rd September but where it is better ask Royal Mail. I have had to hire gear or buy from other suppliers to go diving.

Very disappointed with Mike’s Dive Store. Prior to making my order, I called to check requirements and stock for a prescription mask and snorkel. By paying £10.98 for next day delivery, I was assured it would arrive before my holiday. In reality, it took over a week to arrive and I had to change my order as they did not have my specific item even in stock. No refund on delivery was offered, discount nor apology. During this time, my phone records show I called ten times and sent two emails. The onus seemed to be entirely upon me to follow up and coax my order along. Without these calls, the order would have certainly taken longer. £270 is a huge amount of money and this poor level of service was not what was expected after reading previous reviews. During my last call with Mike’s Dive Store on 18th August I was assured my complaint would be addressed. Two weeks later, I am still waiting. While I do not enjoy complaining, I do not want others to waste the huge amount of time and energy on something that should be so simple.

Hi Charlotte, Very sorry that you have not heard back from us - we had emailed and called you to let you know the shipping has been refunded. After investigation, the items you ordered were in different warehouses so therefore the shipping was more to ensure that the items reached you. We left you a voice message regarding the change of colour to speed up your order. We have not had any emails from you and therefore suspect that the email address may be incorrect or they have been tagged as spam? Again sincere apologies - I do hope you have received our notifications on your refund now.

priced announce on the site : 739 £ priced payed online: 615£ (ok make sense to pay less cause I know I will have to pay the taxe with DHL) but the taxe was fare more expensive! 231£ ! of DHL so in the end it coast me 846£ instead of 739! so unless you are in England I would say avoid that site. Also, I tried to call them but nobody is answering...

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your review and I'm sorry that the duty you had to pay was so much. We do try to explain on the website that since leaving the EU we don't have any control over duty fees for shipping into Europe. We are hoping that there will be more clarity on this issue in the future but unfortunately at the moment we are at the mercy of customs and are unable to even give an estimation of what the duty on individual products might be for different countries. I'm also sorry you weren't able to reach us, we may have been experiencing a high volume of calls then. First time ordering boots from Mike's Dive Store. They sent the wrong size. I spoke with customer service and was assured that another pair would be sent out the following day. Another pair of boots did arrive, as promised, but again they were the wrong size. This issue still hasn't been resolved, I've emailed Jenna, (store manager) and messaged through the website, but no response. Very poor customer service, unfortunately I won't be ordering anything else from Mike's Dive Store.

Hi So sorry that you felt you did not receive the best service. The item you purchased was incorrectly labelled and the wrong size sent, we immediately (before getting the wrong one back) sent another pair – unfortunately, this also was incorrect. We offered a free label which was refused so we collected both boots and refunded your entire order (including shipping) before the boots arrived back. Your refund was completed within a week of your shipped order - so we do hope you feel we have done everything in our power to help. We noted that the sizes were all out of sync and have now updated these on our site. So very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Called at 12:20 and awaited a call back which was not forthcoming. Called again at 17:45 and got through. Unclear why my call had not been returned and got the usual brush off “ Sorry about that” I understood from their site that cylinders can be collected from customers for a small extra fee. This is not the case. The explanation is that they have been unable to find a company prepared to do this, so why is it advertised as such? No plausible explanation was given as to why a caveat was not added stated this facility is not currently available , although They are actively trying to facilitate this. I am not able to drop the twinset off tomorrow and will loose the 7, day turnaround which prompted my call in the first place. On hearing I will be going elsewhere the response was “ That’s fine Sir” 5* customer service, in your dreams.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to review us. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t a good one. We’ve never offered a courier pick up on cylinders, there are too many challenges when picking up cylinders with regards damage to the valves in transit or some couriers refusing to take them which is why we don’t offer the service We do offer a courier pick up on regulators, BCs and computers which is why they are selectable as an option when booking those products in but not on cylinders. Having said that though, I have read through the servicing page description and it’s not clear that the courier service excludes cylinders so I have updated the page to reflect this. Hopefully this will avoid any confusion in the future. Alex

"Urdered Scuabpro Climasphere undersuit for next day delivery, pay extra because I was desperate to get it ASAP. Next day didn't received my item but in the afternoon receiver an email that the item is currently out of stock and can get it next week. If is out of stock please keep it updated on you website!! Not impressed with communication :("
