“There's a lot of good information on the website which is useful in making sense of what's involved in installing solar. Some of the info needs updating. I know things have changed in the last few years and reading reports more than two, or more, years old makes me wonder if it could be more current in places.
Only two of the three installers got in touch and quoted. The quotes were reasonable and consistent but I felt like I was dealing with sales reps, rather than professional consultants- I appreciate a no BS down to earth approach. I was not after a new best friend or someone's life story. In the end I chose an installer who was highly recommended having done many installations in the neighbourhood over the years.”

“One firm, Solar Pro, came to site, provided copious information and sent a complete quote. The other two were not interested in seeing the site, didn't ask many questions but still wanted us to sign up.

“The SolarQuotes articles on solar systems viability, installations, expected power production and investment payback were informative and appreciated.
I was not surprised, however, that the two installers referred by SolarQuotes were not interested in quoting on our installation.
They were both from cities over one hundred kilometres from our town of Barrington. Stands to reason that if you're busy at home, why bother travelling for work.
Luckily we have a local installer whose quote was well within the expected price indicated by the SolarQuotes articles.

“I asked for 2 quotes and although both replied to my initial enquiry and said they would quote, only one company ended up doing so which was a little disappointing.
The company I ended up getting a quote from was highly professional and I commend them, but at the end of the day I couldn't justify their extra $900. Comparision other $4781 versus $5692 for the same thing. If their price had been a bit closer I likely would have gone with them as they offered great service.
And yes, there was a huge mix of quotes, but the $4781 I've mentioned above is for panels of similar quality and & the exact same inverter. I did get much cheaper quotes (as low as $2998), but they were, what I would consider to be, inferior products, with reviews leaving me questioning the quality of installation.”

“Only one of the 3 businesses that quoted made a genuine effort. One threw out an inflated quote that did not meet the requirements I set. Another only sent a quote after I emailed them a week after first contact, again not matching the inverter type requested. The third did all the things you would expect from a good operator, quotes met the 2 inverter types I wanted to be quoted, made follow-up calls and answered questions.
Don't go into this process believing the information in the "How Much do Solar Panels Cost" on the solarquotes website. There is nothing complicated about my install and is in fact easier than most because the prospective installer has access to house during building, yet even quotes using budget panels and inverter where above range listed on that page.”

“The companies solar quotes sent to me we're on average $1000 more than "marketing solar companies" as described by one of the bidders. I did manage to come to an agreement with one of the companies however the prices was still above other quotes but I did manage to get slightly better equipment.
One of the companies did really nothing but bag the other bidders and quote $800 more for a lower kw unit aaaannd when I emailed them to let them know the hadn't got the job they basically went on to lecture me some more. Eh.. even if the did come up with a good price I don't want to deal with a constantly negative person..
Anyway, with all that negative information I received from them, I think I chose the best of the worst!

“Only 1 quote, from PPL who I am sure are a top company. I have sourced another quote from another installer however.
On page 8 (I bought the book!) you quote that it would take about an hour to read - I must be a very slow reader - 208 pages divided by 60 minutes = three and a half pages a minute and trying to learn from it at the same time.
