“I think the idea of Solarquotes is quite good. If someone doesn't know where to start, you've got great information and a referral service of trusted providers. I think where it is lacking is value for money. Out of curiosity, I got one quote for my place and the price was $5000 higher than what I could get on my own. This was from an electrician and solar installer I trust and who has already done work on my place. The hardware was identical in both cases. My installer didn't even pass on the $1400 PV rebate in victoria. He only added the STCs and was still cheaper. It should also be noted that my installer offered a lot more STCs for the exact same hardware, which makes it look like the solarquotes one was pocketing some STCs. Meanwhile, the solarquotes recommended installer added a lot of line items to the quote to make it look like I was getting a lot of value. For example, he added "Certificate of electrical safety", "Free solar monitoring" and so on. Now, the certificate is a mandatory requirement and the monitoring was being provided by the OEM's own platform so neither was a true free addition on his part. He also added a bollard even though my battery was no where near the garage or carport.
I have no doubt the solarquotes person would have probably done a good job. But when the price difference is this high, its hard to recommend Solarquotes.”

That you for the communication over the phone, and for leaving us this feedback. As I mentioned, SolarQuotes does not have the ability to set our installers prices, we would be in very big trouble if we did that. We refer customers to independent installers, and their prices can vary quite a bit depending on labour costs, brands used, business overheads, and how rebates and STCs are handled like you mentioned.
However all accredited installers should pass on the correct rebates and calculate STCs properly. If something doesn’t look right, we encourage customers to raise it with us so we can look into it. If you can - please forward me that quote you mentioned so I can look into this and make sure everything is above board. We do take these issues seriously and act when standards aren’t met. I'm also interested in talking to your solar installer in case they would be a good fit for us. “Your information was great - unfortunately none of the installers have followed up and actually provided a quote. As I was unable to meet with them personally and did everything over the phone. 1komma5 did call back but still haven’t received the quote I wouldn’t be recommending them to anyone”

“Solar quotes is fine, but only one of the three companies responded and that was after a week, by which time I had contacted the company that installed my solar at my current home. They responded instantly and I accepted their quote. I asked for Enphase but the company that responded informed me they didn’t deal with Enphase anyway. Obviously some companies don’t need work!”

“We selected through the quiz that we were interested in the higher end products (do it once, do it right sort of attitude), and ended up with three quotes from companies who provide all lower end products. Information on the website is good however the video asking about your technicians give you their top rated products - only 100 responses out of 500 companies linked in with you - I’m not sure those numbers quite add up for giving recommendations and ratings. We’re still at it getting quotes 🤷🏼♀️”

“While the service was very efficient in getting a quote from a reliable tradesman we only received 1 quote as that is all Solar Quotes had on their system and that quote was expensive. I believe this is because the radius it looked for tradesman around where I live (Blue Mountains) is to small. If it chose from a radius of say 25km it would have picked up tradesman from Richmond/Windsor and Penrith which regularly service the Blue Mountains area.”

Neither of the suppliers who contacted me to quote could provide the equipment/service I was looking for, so was a waste of time. Neither could provide equipement that was able to charge the battery from the grid.”

Thanks for your feedback and apologies about the experience here. Hot water heat pumps are still quite new for us, which is why you were only matched with one installer this time. We’re ironing out the kinks so that customers have more of a choice going forward, we are currently vetting hot water heat pump installers for this reason. I’ll also follow up with the installer you were matched with to remind them about the importance of follow up communication, it only makes things easier.
