“I mistakenly signed up to use Checkatrade to promote our Cleaning company. On 11th October I notified them giving 30 days notice (in writing) that I no longer wanted to subscribe to their services. Since then we have been bombarded with calls, emails and threats that we owe them further fees, despite me given them notice. Apparently they are the only company in the world that doesnt accept written notice but need verbal notice!!!!!!”
“Unbelievably bad company to deal with. Signed up with them to promote our cleaning business on a 3 month contract. No business at all from them so cancelled giving 30 days notice and cancelled DD. Since then they have been constantly harassing us and threatening us, as they say all notifications of cancellations should be by telephone!! Clearly every other company is wrong in insisting cancellation notices should be in writing.”

“The most awful customer service for tradesmen, they charge a fortune and do not verify negative reviews. The small print states every account is under constant review basically forever. If a competitor complains to them anonymously they hold it on file against you without your knowledge then they suspend your account BUT still expect you to pay the balance of yearly membership despite doing sod all for it! FYI someone can complain if you are deemed to ‘park inconsiderately to others’ no I’m not joking!!!!”
“Asked a Check-a-Trade registered Joiner to replace floorboards (some creaking and broken) in my hallway.
He arrived and installed chipboard (9mm) on top of the floorboards I wished to be replaced.
When I questioned such, he stated "That's what we always do. Put down chipboard and use plenty of nails".
Is that correct? Seems strange to me. Why not use screws if chipboard is utilised?
Central heating pipes, should they need to be accessed, are now under two layers of boarding. The creaking has not stopped.
As it was Check-a-Trade, I paid him, although I now regret such.
Will have another Joiner examine the work.
Not pleased, as am a cardiac patient with a limited income and don't need the stress.”
