Write Your review

Because the modules do not tell you the exact question that you got wrong, and the correct answer, how are you to know which question you got wrong AND SHOULD REVIEW? THIS IS A FLAW TO THE LEARNING AND RETAINING OF ALL THE INFORMATION. It is important to know where you went wrong so that you can correct it. All in all, the information provided and the video's were very well done and easy to follow. Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review Shirley. Since the test is open book and unsupervised, Transport Canada mandates that we aren't able to identify which questions were answered incorrectly. This is to protect the integrity of online testing.

I liked the website but I found annoying that every time you fails a mini quiz in the modules you had to re watch all the vids it would be better if they would only make you re watch the ones you don't understand

Very user friendly, enjoyed the fact I could do at my own pace but once you start hard to stop as you just want to get it done. Gerry

As a retired person just beginning pleasure craft operating, I found the BOATsmart printed study guide and online course worked very well for me. The quizes at the end of each module really helped me focus in on specifics of important learnings. However, I mistakenly thought those quizes were the required test itself and was quite shocked at the end of the study to now deal with the actual Transport Canada test. Fortunately, my sudden raised stress level did not prevent me from passing the TC test. I am looking forward to boating and fishing this year with my adult son's encouragement (who is a PCOC avid boater and fisherman) and my wife's confidence in being along. One confusing quiz question 10 in Module one. Page 26 states both b and c with c highlighted, yet the answer named correct is b. Oh well!

it was toooooo long. Some descriptions could have been combined. It was very organized, detailed and orderly and that is very good.

In the tutorial on storing a boat, it should be indicated that stabilizer should be added to the gasoline. Regarding towing, the instruction was that the boat should be "balanced". Actually, the rule is that about 10% of the weight of the loaded boat trailer should be on the hitch. I verified this by experience in towing a 16' fibreglas boat with a 70 hp. motor attached, which swayed when there was little or no weight on the hitch. It towed steadily when there was more weight on the hitch; really there was a world of difference. The change was easily accomplished by moving some of the load forward.

The way everything is worded on the boatsmart prepay information is misleading. I purchased the prepay card and on it it says "Take your BOATsmart! test online! Purchase a Pre-Paid Online Test Card" No where does it say that there is a mandatory 3 hour course as well. I had previously studied the book and was prepared to take the exam when I found out that I had wasted my time on the book since the mandatory course was essentially reading the book again module for module. Had I know this was the case I would have done things differently. It is very misleading to sell a prepaid card that does not have accurate information on it. I could have saved a lot of time had it been clearly set out and may have chosen to write the test a different way had I known. Since the pleasure craft operator card is necessary and you are the people who provide it the least you can do is make sure people are informed clearly of how it works. You should also inform the staff at Canadian Tire where these are sold so they could also inform their customers.

My daughter has had a boating manual for over 2 years and had not even finished reading the first chapter. When my husband told me he sign her up to this online boatsmart I figured he wasted his money. He purchased this mid February and she completed the course mid March, not a waste of money. The best money ever spent. Thanks she is very excited to have completed the course and was it very user friendly.

As a weekend boater on a small land locked lake (5km long x 1/2 km wide) I thought there was a lot of information that I did not need or will never use. Maybe there should be two different test/licenses. It would also be nice to know what answers you got wrong so you can learn from your mistakes. Thanks

Course was good, there was just one question that was in the TC test that was not covered, but everything else was spot on.

It is a very good course covering all the basics but the thing i didn't like about it was that i couldn't see what it was about before i paid for it. Would of liked to see what it was all about before i pay. Also it was a very long course.
