Very simple to learn and understand the material

Some questions seemed to be repeated a few times while other topics seemed to not have enough information. Also some questions on the module quiz did not have enough information covered in the information to answer easily.

Overall, I think the BOATsmart training was fairly good. The voice-over was clear and consistent, most animations were helpful, and even included some funny moments to keep things more interesting (though they're eye-roll or dad-joke level of comedy). When I checked another website's lesson, it seemed lower quality than the lessons I received through BOATsmart. My main issues related to the fact that the content of BOATsmart appears to have recently been redone without paying much attention. An early quiz asked a question that wasn't covered until module 7, some content was repeated, and some spelling mistakes existed on some of the graphics. Additionally, at least one question on the final quiz was not covered. Lastly, the most frustrating part was the minimum time for each lesson. Some were consistent to the length of the video/voice-over, however some (I think module 3) were as much as double what was necessary. All timers were far longer than my reading speed, which lead to a lack of focus and reduced learning when I found myself waiting and seeking a distraction instead. Overall: Solid, but plenty of room for improvement

I love that I was able to do it on my own time

Very nice course. I completed it in one sitting and I learned a ton about boat safety. Thank you.

Not quite as comprehensive as I had expected. I had done a lot of reading of other marine safety literature and found this course did not cover topics in as much detail. Also would like to have been able to review the questions I got wrong.

Great way to support learning of safety, navigational tools, rules, regulations and laws for safe boating as well as instruction/practice tests to complete the Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card.

The video and audio features in the course greatly helped me in passing the boater exam, along with the useful infographic summaries at the end of each module. However, I was unable to click and download a pdf copy of some of the infographics; and I was also unable to enter my postal code in Singapore (with 6 digits) as doing so lead to an invalid postal code message popping up.

I felt somewhat confident going into the boaters test so overall I would recommend this site to anyone wanting to receive their boaters licence.

I understand why there is a delay or time requirement for each lesson but found it a bit frustrating as in some cases seems excessive. Also some lessons are blank, it would be useful to have a statement about why or to remove the extra slides/pages

I used my phone, iPad and laptop and none of these would load pictures during study session. As a result I had to google the pictures and what they were.

I learned a lot. Many videos were not accessible to me in explorer or chrome so I missed some information. It would be nice to decrease the required amount of time between sections so it matches the video. Sometimes I had to wait more than a minute after the video or reading was finished before being able to advance to the next lesson.

The French version of the online course is of very poor quality. Most animations do not work and when they do, some are not under the right lesson! Also, most of the visuals such as diagrams, are not visible. You will agree that not seeing what a buoy looks like is a real limitation for the learner. The online French course is NOT worth the price. Unfortunately, I didn't have any choice but to complete this course otherwise, I would have asked to be reimbursed.

Pros: The course was well designed and easy to understand Cons: Most videos worked well. Apparently there were videos on some of the screens, as the was a 'play bar' but nothing would happen. However there was still the text that one can read. One is forced to spend a minimum time on each part, however some of those are too long and one could only sit and wait for it to time out

Excellent course. Wish I knew what questions I got wrong; that would have been more helpful for long term retention of correct information.

I loved the visuals and videos that were created for the course, it was fun and informative. Glad to be boating in Cali! I respect minimum time on each screen to ensure the user is absorbing the content but I was very thorough in my reading and consistency had 30 secs left on every module. Roughly 20 modules across 6 topics = 120 screens which meant over an hour was just waiting time. Much information was duplicated from screen to screen. I could name 10 repeated sections (which of course I had to wait the full 2.5mins before proceeding). Multiple choice questions were also repeated. Over 6 quizzes of 10 questions I could have counted around 5 duplicates. Same with the final exam. For a California card (state-specific) I found much of the content very generic, "If there is a current, and depending on the time of year". For me to learn more effectively I would have liked to see, "Review this chart with the top harbour locations along the Cali coast identifying current directions and tide levels and how they change through the year." I can only imagine the ranges of this information is similar annually? Overall I am excited to be boating safety but the course took around 7 hours when it stated was roughly 3 hours to complete. Thanks
