“Cato s in Hendersonville TN Sunday 2/22 a short hair dark head lady waited on my friend and I . Hello...... no response ..... no need to say more. not friendly which made her very unprofessional and there wasn't even a conversation through two transaction so maybe she should go home or not coming to work when she's not in the best mood to have customer service. I don't think I wanna be a Cato's customer anymore I haven't even been thinking about sending my credit card back. We must've checked her off since she had to leave the floor and come walk the register we're not sure but I'm not gonna be treated that way. Good luck”
“I visited the Sumter, SC store on February 7, 2026 at 9 a.m. Purchased pants, asked to be put on hanger instead of bag to avoid getting wrinkle. She sad she couldn’t give me pant hanger, but a shirt hanger. She tried but it kept falling off. Then she going say, “I can’t stand here all day with this.” I
Just thought that was rude to say to me. So I took and tried and just put over my
Arms. She walked off and didn’t even say thank you. I never go back to that store again!”
“My husband went to return a blouse for me; he had the receipt. The sales clerk took the item to the backroom, where the manager was. When she came back out she told him that if it was within 30 days the only thing they could do was return the item for the lowest price it has been marked. He asked, "Even with a receipt?" She said, 'Yes, that's store policy." He asked if that was what the receipt said. At that point he said he'd just let me come back and complete the return. As he was walking out of the store he read the receipt. It actually said that we had until January 25, 2026 because we had purchased over the holiday season. He turned around and called back to her (she was back in the storeroom) and said, "I'm going to ask you to honor what the receipt says." She took the receipt and looked at it for about a minute and he said, "Can you see where it says that?" She snapped at him and said, "You don't have to be rude about it. if you're rude, I can ask you to leave the store. He said he wasn't being rude that perhaps she was being rude by telling him something inaccurate and getting upset when he asked them to honor it. The manager then came out and gave him the refund but he did not say a word. I don't think I'll be shopping there even though I do like the clothes. It's not worth being treated like that. Quincy, Illinois store #01211”
“I went to the Cato in Roxboro nc with my daughter we are here from out of town she purchased a nice formal dress the lady just threw it in the bag I went back in and was told that she would lay it in a layaway garment bag but we couldn’t have a hanger. She said she has to keep her hangers. If it wasn’t an emergency I would have left it.”
“Staff ignored my arrival, never asked if I. needed anything . Seemed to be bothered that I was even there. Asked if the dressing rooms were locked, waited a while for the clerk to show up. Bought several items and ignored my request for an emailed receipt. Worst experience I’ve ever had at a Catos. Customer service is a skill set this team doesn’t appear to have. Wont ever visit the the Ambassador Caffery Store again.”
“Can all of you people please stop calling the store “Cato’s”. It is Cato. There is no s. It’s very basic grammar. Also, stop complaining about technical stuff that the employees have no control over. ( i.e. marking the bills then having to hold them up to the light) Get over it; it’s part of the company’s policy, not a way to criminalize a customer. Also, employees are 98% of the time not just messing with clothes on racks to watch what you are doing! That is in your head. It is part of their job to put back/fix clothes on racks after lazy customers decide to just throw them on top of other thing or leave them on the floor. Customers are not always in the right. And no..I do not work for CATO.”
“Your "pay by phone" system is very outdated. It takes over 7 minutes to complete the payment by phone. You first get an automated message. Then it transfers you to a live person only to transfer you back to an automated recording. It's ridiculous.”
“Went into the Store on Bobby Jones Expressway Augusta on 7/26/25 Sales Associate was counting down the register. She wasn’t friendly at all.
I will continue to order online. Very poor customer service. Nasty Attitude”
“I have visited my local Cato in Minden LA and was not acknowledged either time as even being in the store; unrecognized whatsoever by either employee present. Poor customer service!”
“For the last 3 years I have received a gift card for Cato's from my son. I understand that they are financially strapped. When I went to the store in Callaway Florida they told me that their gift card system has been down all week. I called the corporate office and they have no resolution. This is crazy. I think purposely holding the funds because their financially tight. You mean to tell me in our entire week's time there is no resolution to all of the other moms who may have gotten a gift card from Mother's Day. And I spent an hour picking up my clothing just to be told that I couldn't use it. They need to post that on the door before people waste all day looking for clothing. I don't believe that the gift card system is down.
Never again. Going forward I will tell my son to not include Cato in my gift cards from Mother's Day.”
“One of the workers there is very rude with her coworkers and customers. She is nice whenever the manager is around but when there are people there of a different race and the manager is not there, she is very rude. She is the short older lady that works there.”
“I placed an online order and I was charged twice by CATO. I called CATO Customer Service, explained the issue and I received Poor Customer service in return. I was told to take the matter up with my bank and they couldn't do anything to reimburse the charge even though she could see where they charged me twice. So, I say to you. If you don't have a CATO charge card and or not shopping in store don't order online because they will double charge your card.”
“As an employee of this awful store, this is THE WORST place I've ever worked!!! Before becoming an employee, I never even shopped here. They are very cheap in EVERY aspect of this company. I'll give them about 3 years and they'll probably have to close more locations. This is a sorry company to work and to shop for these cheap ass clothes that shrink or rip when you wash them even on gentle cycle. Then they want you to do things that they're not paying you for. Whoever reads this, do yourself a favor and don't shop here or try to get employment here!”
“The manager is RUDE!!! She kept staring at me then kept moving from side to side on the counter like I was gonna steal something I want for preparation and I’m not gonna be treated like this. You need to find a new job. You’re a freaking cow.!”
“Steer clear of the manager (Michelle) at Cato in Concord Commons, Concord NC. When asked for a simple explanation of the a return slip she had a complete meltdown, stormed off into the back room and refused to help. She is volatile, hostile, rude beyond belief.... a customer standing next to me even tried to help out. Michelles behavior was so outrageous and unbelievable. NEVER GIVING THIS BUSINESS ANOTHER DOLLAR.”
“I was at the Cato's in Tuscaloosa before it opened. I'm sure I was seen walking in. I went straight to the counter to do a return. I actually really wanted an exchange with a skirt I saw as soon as I walked in the door. Their was one clerk who was pushing a cart
around I guess restocking the racks or whatever who Ignored me for 18 minutes. When she completed whatever she was doing, she walked toward me and said "Are you ready?" I didn't see you? What a liar and what poor customer servic. I will never return this Cato store. The reviews are so bad I probably will not ever shop in Cato again Period!”
