“Diabolical customer service, with antiquated chatbot, dire communications and making it up as they go along, to avoid a simple refund for a ferry cancelled by the operator. I will simply would not touch DF with a bargepole.”
“Been trying to edit a booking for two weeks. Multiple times failed and costumer service is terrible.
My advice, find the actual ferry operator an book directly and even save on the price.”
“Do not use dirrect ferries, irresponsible and confusing system.
They said failed to purchase yet they successfully debit my creditcard.
Only fully refund when my creditcard dispute the charges.
Please choose book with direct operator ferries .”
“Very difficult to report a problem and the Bot just keeps returning to the same point asking the same question. Our booking was not recognised by P&O even though we had the DF booking ref and the P&O one. All details looked correct. The reception said that this issue is happening multiple times. We sat in a queue for well over an hour and you can imagine what the people behind thought when we delayed them even further. P&O said always book direct with them ,the price is the same and you will not have the same issue and will have recourse to them! Will do so in future.”
“Be very careful when booking with these people - after I paid for a minor amendment they took the entire ticket price again. For 5 days they refused to admit this double charging and it took a lot of hassle and arguing to get the money back.”
“Very disappointing service from start to finish. Took about 3 weeks to get my tickets confirmed after multiple follow ups. That alone should have been a red flag. Then the week before our trip I received notification that our inbound ferry had been cancelled, with no explanation given as to why or course to rebook.
I booked under the “Cancel for any reason” option and did get my ticket price back but not the service fee or money paid for the cancel for any reason option which I found very misleading.
Seems like a scammy upsell, not a customer-friendly feature.Save yourself the hassle and book directly with the ferry companies. This site overpromises and underdelivers at every step.”
“Booked with Direct Ferries for round trip Dublin to Wales. They sent two emails letting us know of time change for our Dublin departure, which was good.
Four days later on our return to Dublin we arrived at the port to learn our ferry had been cancelled two weeks prior. Direct Ferries never let us know. Irish Ferries was as helpful as possible, getting us on the next ferry out, but we still missed our international flight, our booked hotel for the night and tour for the morning at our new destination, costing us $1,000 in change fees and no refunds. We also had to pay for a hotel in Dublin for the night. There is no way to talk to or email Direct Ferries. They only use an AI bot, which is useless. Don't use them! Go direct to the ferry company. They had over 2 weeks to notify us of a cancelled sailing, we could easily worked with that.”
“Payment error on their system, yet still took the money from my bank account. Result is that I played twice. No efforts for compansation whatsoever. Avoid”
“We booked a ferry ticket through Direct Ferries, accurately entering our car’s model and exact size. However, the Fast Ferries crew made us pay extra at the port, claiming our VW T4 was a minibus, even though it is officially registered as a private passenger car.
During our communication and checking my car papers, Direct Ferries first claimed I had selected the wrong category, then said I had entered incorrect dimensions (which were correct), and ultimately insisted there was no mistake on their side.
Unfortunately, this means that even if you enter the correct details, Direct Ferries cannot guarantee that the price you pay will be the final price at the port. I would advise other travelers with similar vehicles against using DirectFerries platform.”
“Fine when everything goes to plan, as it did the first few times I used them, but if there is a problem, you find out that the customer service that sits behind the website is slow, unhelpful and I got sent repeated incorrect information about my crossing which caused delays, concern and was impossible to speak to anyone at Direct Ferries who could tell me anything useful. I complained and they wore me down - I gave up fighting in the end so will never use them again. Not worth the cost saving when you would rather have peace of mind should there be an issue with your booked ferry service.”
“Direct ferry is one of the bad ferry services in Dover and Calais port. I booked sailing Dover/ Calais- Dover return sailing. Then I contacted with them to amend my sailing. They send me link to pay an additional fee £40 with 6 hours. The day of travel they contact us to pay another extra additional fee £36 to pay. I refused to pay extra additional fee and they send me cancellation email. So be careful to travel Direct ferry.”
“I ordered the ferry and tried to cancel the ferry but there system was down they then contacted stating sorry our systems where down you can now access your account to cancel the ferry, by this time it was to late now they won't refund me my money or reschedule a date when your finally able to speak to a human they are very rude and not helpful at all will not use again”
“I booked a ticket which I thought was $98 which was the same price as what I would have paid if I booked through the carrier direct on their website. Since I thought it was the same price, I booked through Direct Ferries but was surprised to find there was extra $10 service fee only after I paid for it. I realised that you don’t show the additional charge initially but only add it on just before the final approval for a credit card, even after going through the trouble of filling out all the details of the passport. So why do you not transparently show the total charge on the price initially? It is a very deceitful way of getting people like me to believe it’s the same price, then overlooking the final price to spend $10 more for no added benefit. Not only will I not fall for this scam again but make sure I tell everyone about how you try to scam people into making this purchase.”
“Do not use this site under any circumstances to book your ferry. Direct Ferries took my payment. When arrived at the ferry terminal my booking was there but the payment from Direct Ferries had not been paid to AML. Paid again to AML ferries. Still waiting for a refund although DIrect Ferries have proof of both my payments”
“Booked through Direct Ferries several months ago. Showed up for the ferry and it had already left. They gave me the wrong time and confirmed the wrong time just this morning. I wish I could leave zero stars!”
