“I have found a very good tutor, but I do think that the fee for the "introduction" (some £24.00) was quite high.”

“This was my first time using the website and I'm not sure I'd use it again. I have 2 children that I was looking for a tutor for and who both have slightly different needs. This was quite difficult to 'advertise' as the assumption on the website was that it was for 1 tutee, and I didn't want the additional hassle of trying to co-ordinate timings etc twice with different tutors. Also the description area of what I was looking for didn't allow me much space to elaborate. However, my main gripe with this site is that you don't have any actual contact with the tutor until you've signed up (paid the intro fee) so I guess they assume that if the qualifications, experience, availability and timings match then it's a done deal. I don't like this approach as I wanted to at least have a conversation before engaging someone not least to ensure that they came across as empathetic and could explain something in a way that I knew my children would understand - not all teachers suit all children - isn't that why I'm here looking for additional support! Because of this I'd have rated the website as 'Poor', however, I had a query which I sent through the website and which was answered within an hour so I've rated 'Average'.”

Dear Sharon, Thank you for your feedback, this will of course be passed on. It unfortunately sounds as if your needs didn't quite match up with the way our site operates. We don't allow tutors to talk to prospective tutees prior to paying the introduction fee as many tutees wouldn't bother returning to the site to pay the fee once they had the tutor's details. “I was looking for tutors for my daughter for history and politics. She's just had her first lessons and both went very well, although both very different (one online one face to face) she's excited about working with them and I'm assured that she'll get the assistance she needs to polish up her A2 exam technique. “I found First Tutors quick and easy to use. It allowed me to look for the kind of tutor I wanted, instead of suggesting tutors who then emailed me. There was a good range of tutors to choose from and the profiles were accurate and useful. All the tutors I emailed contacted me quickly except for one, who First Tutors said they would follow up for me. Would definitely use them again.”

“Have been looking into a maths tutor for a couple of months and after a bad experience with another tutor website my husband came across first tutors.We arranged a lesson with our selected tutor and everything went smoothly.Very professional service.Wish we had found first tutors and used them first!”

“I simply entered our post code and a number of tutors in our area appeared. We were able to quickly identify a tutor with the skills we wanted in our geographical area. The tutor we selected contacted us an the whole thing was arranged in less that 24 hours. After only one session our granddaughter is more confident and enthusiastic in maths”

“I was very sceptical of paying for a tutors details before ever getting a lesson and worried about it being a scam. I hadn't heard of first tutors so I did some research. It was money well spent my daughter is in leaving cert and getting help with higher level maths. Joey our tutor so fat has been amazing. Highly recommend.”
