Spoke to an RAC representative about my policy as I had moved to a new address . Five mins away from my previous address. They managed to bump up my policy cost by an extra £14 pounds a month . Charge me a 25.00 admin fee and re-charge me interest for the new policy even though my existing policy was due to end in two months. Needless to say I will not be renewing with them in March . Nothing more off putting than being ripped off.

I have listened to the blurb twice and it does not allow you to enter a quote reference number

My car insurance policy expired the end of the year. I received no notification before it expired of the premium RAC planned to charge me for the following year. Instead I got an email demanding to know why my bank had declined a payment for renewing the insurance at a premium double the amount of the previous year. I told them that of course they had declined it because they had given me no advance warning of the cost and it was more than I intended to pay. They also said that I would incur a late payment fee of £25. I fought this one and it was removed as unjustified. I found a cheaper and better policy and transferred 8 days into the new year. I paid RAC £10 to cover the insurance for the few additional days I had gone into the new year and was told this was the last payment I would have to make. Since then they are demanding £25 for cancelling a policy I never intended to renew and would have cancelled before the renewal date if they had contacted me before the policy expired! Three letters demanding £25 and a referral to day to a credit agency is the first time I have discovered that this £25 is not a late payment but a cancellation fee. This is downright sharp practice. I am being asked to pay for the RACs administrative incompetence and they are now involving a credit company for recovery. Be warned!

RAC don't actually do car insurance. They will take your money and then pass yo to Aviva if you have a claim. Trying to deal with Aviva is nigh on impossible. I registered a claim on the 2cnd December 2018, it is currently January the 9th and I have not had anything done. I am currently on hold (20 minutes so far) trying to get them to do something. Luckily my car still drives or I'd be in real trouble. NEVER use RAC car insurance

waste of my time, after listening to the longest ever terms and conditions for what seemed an eternity. I expect to hear a bit where the insurance company covers itself but i have never heard anything like it. it went on forever......i was warned by the nice young lady that it would take about 30 mins to get a quote!! obviously i questioned why it would take so long but agreed to give it a go. 10 mins in and we are still on my details, they wanted to know everything! when i heard the question on what date did you pass your driving test? i was 17 and gave a rough month as i have no idea ( i am 46 ) we cannot go any further unless you have the correct date she exclaimed. At that point i knew this wasn't going to work. If you have time to spare and like listening to someone speak at you then the RAC is perfect! otherwise go somewhere else and enjoy the 15 mins of it on something entertaining.

RAC is one of worse service in UK, their response time over the phone is only 50-60 minutes and their rescue time is 6-7 hours in cold weather. Your will hear a nice music and advice over the phone. You will loose your all day if you got membership with RAC. You may die in cold weather if wait for RAC so it is better you immediately organise yourself an alternate service for hotel or for Taxi.

Filled in details online. Obtained quote of £377.08. Tried to pay having put in purchase date - and suddenly 'the site was closed due to maintenance'. Rang up - 10 minutes listening to drivel before I got to an adviser. Lots more sales chat - finally confirmed the quote of £377.08 and eventually go to the payment part - and I was then told. 'The price is £553 - OK?' Hang on - what ... No explanation for the huge price hike, just told 'That's now the price...' No explanation for not honoring the quote which on screen I was told was valid for today. He just kept saying - 'That's the price - OK? No - that's really NOT OK! Disgraceful! Will not buy any RAC products from now on.

I insure my car with the RAC, nearly three weeks ago I was rear-ended by a drive who accepted responsibility. I have been contacted by a personal insurance injury solicitor who is dealing with the personal injury claim with a great deal of enthusiasm. However, apart from sorting out a hire car and getting my car taken away for "assessment" by a car breaker, I've heard nothing about repair. Today I received a call from the car hire company who informed me that the hire agreement has been extended, and they understand my car is a write off. I phoned the number I have for the RAC to discuss the situation - this turns out to be yet another department of the car hire company - and they say that they believe the car was written off over a week ago, although when they attempted to phone the engineer he was apparently "looking at the report" so the information was unavailable. They will phone me today. It appears to be impossible to just speak to my insurer - RAC pass you on to numerous other (non-insurance) companies who have their own agendas (personal injury lawyers who take a 25% cut of any award and car hire companies who presumably have no reason to want to reduce the length of time you are having to hire a car - the car hire is taken care of by the other parties insurance but the addition £7 a day to avoid crippling costs due to any minor damage is down to me). Not happy with the RAC.

Wish i read these bad reviews before i took out insurance with RAC. My premium went up because i supposedly didn't declare a so called claim. My previous insurance admitted on their error they put i had claims when i didn't. I had only had a notification but no claim. RAC asked for proof, so my previous sent me proof in writing that they had updated their system to no claim made, notification only. RAC then realised because of this error they would have to lower my premium back to its original price but instead they decided to cancel my policy without reason. And I'm still awaiting refund of my deposit money. It's strange that when they thought i had a claim on my file they were quick to higher my premium but as soon as they realise it was an error they decide to cancel it instead of lowering it back. Just want to steal your money. I will also be cancelling my RAC breakdown cover.

Took out Van insurance with RAC , then changed to a Car 3 months later , when I phoned to cancel they said I was with Aviva not RAC , run round the Houses, Aviva saying they had no record of me ! When things were eventually sorted out after 3 phone calls and emails , I was told by email that my refund would be £134.66 as I was taking out RAC car insurance , Just checked my Bank account and they have only paid in £104.70 ! Seems like they tell lies just like alot of the big Insurers ! I wont be using them next year !

Appalling. They automatically renewed my policy at an increased premium, it took me 8 days to get through on the phone to tell them I did not want to renew, then they charged me a £25 fee and £33.17 for the 8 days cover, even though I had taken out a policy with eSure. It then took me hours and hours to get through to pay the charges. Total rip off.

Expensive compared to most providers. Also I've got married and moved house in the year of being with rac and for a simple change of address and changing wife's name, they have charged me for both change of details, absolute shambles! 100% leaving as soon as my year is up. Do not need to charge for amendments to details.

Broke down on the A543 with no verge, you're literally stood on the road with your motorbike. Hot day, so it's busy as hell with tourists. Called the breakdown number they gave me - dead number. Googled a new number, got through, passed me to another dept, and left me on hold for 22mins before a passing farmer offered me help. 4th emergency service? Please RAC, never expand into Ambulance or Fire.

is it possible to give zero stars ? Took out insurance and paid in full. Twice sent proofof NCD. third time lucky and they accepted it, however because the new letter showed 6 years NCD and not 5 as I had previously proved, I was charged £82.25 for the amendment (pressing one button I presume). Complete rip off. STAY CLEAR at all costs would be my advice.

Call out when my car failed to start on Holiday, took 3 hours to arrive and charged me £110.99 for a new battery after fully checking all car electrics. Next day drove my son to alton towers and on way back electric seemed to go dead. Pulled over at 22:30 in dark and popped bonnet expecting to have to tighten the connection. Battery was on fire. Grabbed my son and ran down hard shoulder. Car went up in fireball 5 mins later. Closed the M6 with 4 fire engines to put it out. Car was a right-off and RAC denied all responsibility. Also Insurance Co. could not confirm cause due to the severity of the damage to the engine bay. RAC getting away scott free. On complaining they simply refunded the battery cost as a goodwill gesture and declined any legal responsibility. The car was a 2010 Mazda 6 with regular servicing in immaculate condition. Given I saw the battery on fire and nothing else, and the car had been checked by their engineers the day before and given the all-clear before they then fitted the battery, I will let you decide what you think to the cause but I dont believe in that level of coincidence and will never use them again. It's a shame you have to enter at least one star to submit a review. ** STAY CLEAR IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE *** -- Reply to Hannah--- Thank you for the reply however it remains that either :- 1) The RAC Engineer missed something life threatening wrong with the car during his extensive testing, Or 2) The battery fitted by the RAC engineer was done poorly, Or 3) The battery itself was faulty. In all 3 scenarios the RAC are in my mind at fault, either by incompetence or supply of faulty goods. Also at the time of logging the call no mention was made by RAC indicating they were in any way checking other batteries in the same batch to prevent any further occurrence of this - Be wary if they fit (or have fitted) a type '003' battery to your vehicle! When I rang to cancel the policy with the same person who had already been dealing with my complaint he even had the cheek to ask 'Why?' ... honestly you cannot make this up
