In May we broke down on the way to a family camping holiday. We had two under 2 in the car and it was the hottest day of the year. It took well over two hours for anyone to get to us, and when someone arrived it was not an RAC engineer but a partner. The partner didn't even pop the bonnet of our car, he just said "oh I get a lot of Peugeots" then loaded us on to tow us away. The guy was rude, slow and unhelpful. He spent a full 5 minutes enjoying his Costa Coffee in his vehicle before coming out of his car, despite the fact that I was holding a screaming 6 month old baby! My complaints experience with this issue has infuriated me further. Initially I wrote to offer feedback on the partner and to suggest that there may be other more suitable partners to team up with. Every correspondence with RAC has completely missed the point that the reason I was not happy was because I have had no apology for the fact that they took so long worth two young babies in the car on the hottest day of the year, and no acknowledgement that, perhaps, their partner was not good enough to deal with a break down, as I suspect that he was a tow truck driver and not a mechanic. I've cancelled my membership and will never join again.

We had a payment for renewal to our credit card, we were not aware this was coming out, no idea of the price of another year. The price was actually too high, so we rang to cancel and were told they would be happy to cancel, but they were going to keep all the money, no refund would be given. we have had 4 weeks cover with no claims. what a bunch of crooks. Beware you may sign for automatic renewal and get ripped off. Our advice is go somewhere else for your breakdown cover.

The insurance service is appalling. if you wish to buy a different car they charge you a whopping £54 fee just. Its a way of inserting higher fees and making their insurance look cheaper. Its utter robbery, and when I asked speak to a supervisor to discuss it no one was avalable, then this woman rang me back and just kept arguing and arguing she would not even listen to my point of view. utter bastards...

38 years member - very poor call-out service. Every year the cost of membership keeps rising, without any call outs and no long term Loyalty discount being offered to old customers of 38 years. Unfortunately, recently, I need this call out service, and this particular RAC breakdown man, lacked in knowledge after not be able to find the scanner plug, despite being pointed out to him, and he was unable to fix the vehicle and bombarded us with so called temperature readings and said this vehicle would never start up again, and he called out Westbourne Garage to attend as non-urgent stating 90 minutes waiting time. Westbourne mechanic informed us there was no fuel being pumped, despite having half a tank of diesel. 38 years of Membership being flushed down the toilet. Thank you RAC I will be looking for an alternative breakdown/recovery provider. Disgruntled RAC member of 38 years of Loyal Membership. We would suggest your RAC mechanics need better training. Reluctantly Goodbye.

In January. I informed them of a object falling of a lorry and hitting my bumper. After inspecting the damage. The third party agreed to pay. I never made a claim. When insurance was due for renewal. The price went from £300+ to £2700+.? I did not renew. I requested proof of my no claims. They sent A letter with proof of 7 years. But still had me down as a claim in January. After several phone calls and many hours on the phone. 4 Weeks later. Still not resolved. I asked to be put through to complaints. Got fobbed off. I would not recomend you use this company.

Rac was the broker for aviva On the 27 th april 2016 they cancelled my dad's insurance without notice . I rang to see why they said he had a claim in march 2015 it was settled on 25 th april 2016 and the cost of the repair was to high so they cant insure him any more , the renewal was up in 4 weeks , i had to argue and fight to get his no claims , rac and aviva blame each other for cancelling the policy. This claim was listed when the insurance was talen out ... JOKE STAY CLEAR !!!

After being hit from behind by a learner driver I contacted RAC to let them know. I was first passed through to a division of Enterprise Rent a car who deal with RAC claims, who then passed me to their car arm to arrange a hire car while mine was awaiting collection in Sunderland to be taken to my hometown in Stoke for repairs. After lots of phone calls by me to various Stoke companies (I more or less had to arrange the collection myself) and 'RAC/Enterprise' they suddenly cancelled my hire car as my car hadn't been picked up by one of their approved repairers, who suddenly said they don't collect from that far away. Another 2 days of phone calls and my car was eventually collected. I now had the issue of getting the repairers to do a proper job (my car is automatic and was shunted out of park). All of this was being sorted out with another third party company that look after authorising work to be done for the insurance companies. These do not work in your best interest. Even after getting advice from Land Rover and the gearbox manufacturer that a shunt from behind whilst in park would almost certainly damage the gearbox< AMS refused to have it looked at, leaving me to have the gearbox checked at my expense. The rest of the cosmetic damage was sorted out without issue. After complaining to RAC, they referred me back to AMS who just flatly refused to do anything. Meanwhile as I was disputing this with AMS, Enterprise demanded my hire car back!!. All in all RAC have done themselves no favours by outsourcing their entire operation to a range of companies that do not talk to each other, leaving you do most of their work for them, whilst wishing you'd gone elsewhere. Goodness know how difficult my experience would have been had the accident been my fault!!!! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE ..... on top of this they now want to increase my premium by 30%. WHAT A JOKE!!

Been with them for over 20 years, max no claims bonus. This years quote was double what I paid last year, from £300 to £650 for no reason Given. Watch out! many many hidden costs from £25.00 to update your own details online, and extortionate rates if you change your address. Remember Rac are only (brokers), and only use 30 proper insurance companies for quotes .There are hundreds more just as good ,if not better! Go online, got the same cover for £220. from lv direct. By By Rac . you saved me money in the long run.

I spent almost thirty minutes waiting on the telephone for a live human voice so that I could cancel the overpriced automatic renewal notice that I had received. Awful service

Poor. Been charged extra £95 when I made a claim for a stolen bike which has been rejected as the bike wasn't in my garage. The issue is, I was using the bike at the time. Having made the claim, RAC then decided to charge me more money for a clerical error that THEY had made on my policy. They've not been interested in listening to anything I've said and rejected every issue I've had. Customer first - NOT with the RAC. After eight weeks of waiting (and paying for a bike policy on a bike I no longer have) I'm now involving the ombudsman. Thanks for absolutely nothing RAC. Wouldn't recommend you to a soul if you were the last insurance company on earth. Top tip to customers...read and check your policy then read and check it again cos they ain't going to rectify any mistakes they make if you don't tell them to - in their eyes, the fault is ALL yours!

For the first time in my life (insurance since 1982) I feel I have been betrayed and uttley let down by an insurance company. Whilst they are polite over the phone, they are simply a rip-off should you need to change your car midway though your policy year. Id avoid at all costs and you'll save money to boot! Simply, I sold my old car having first transferred my plate off. This plate went on retention for new car. £25 sir but we'll waive the further charge for re-registering your next vehicle. Number plate put on next car with two months of buying it (DVLA slow), call them to advise of change - "no problem sir". Stopped by police in September as car coming up not insured - checked its original number and that was fine. Call RAC next morning to resolve only to find that the existing policy would no longer quote/insure my car. All I'd done was change the number plate. The new quote was over £100 more and bearing in mind I'd paid more in the first place for a simpler life made it now instantly over £100 more than an online policy through a popular search engine. To rub salt in the would they refunded my a paltry amount despite them effectively forcing me away. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Never more with them and I wood never prefer to no one to have Insurance with them ,,,thanks for your time and some of the blame is and for you to, because its your responsibility to check the companies you are dealing with.

Would never recommend the RAC my mother has been with them for years for insurance and full breakdown cover and was diagnosed last October with cancer, we had to sell her car and I wrote to them asking for a refund this is now March 2015. We have had 2 letters saying they are looking into it and a phone call from a very young lady demanding a written confirmation from my mothers GP that she was indeed terminally ill. I was furious, it is hard enough to deal with a relative being ill without the need to prove the illness, who on earth would make such a story up to gain a refund of what is due?! Disgusting
