Cottage dated and not dog friendly . directions were useless, had to go into a pub to find out where the cottage was. Decking rotten and dangerous and access to drive dangerous also. Poorly equipped, with chipped bowls and no shelving in fridge. Will not go to this place again.

We were disappointed with the size of the bedrooms and the fact that our son had to sleep downstairs because of this. We were also disappointed that there was nothing left for us in the fridge when we arrived. Further the smell from the bins outside was so bad that we couldn’t sit on the bench and enjoy a drink. Finally, the oven was in need of a good clean. Overall, considering the price we paid for the property, it was not a great experience… Kind Regards, Guy Partridge.

Just had another wonderful week at the old butchers cottage in Chilham. It’s the second visit we have stayed the. You couldn’t wish for better hosts nothing is to much trouble if we visit the uk again we would not hesitate to stay there again. Thanks again Hilary. Regards Marion and John

House was great location but various problems with bins overflowing, tumble dryer not working, fan in bathroom not working, damaged cupboard and 3 weeks after submitting a complaint online and to head office no acknowledgment. I guess they had the money so it doesn’t matter to them

The booking process was fine, however on arrival the property wasn’t as advertised on the website, which was problematic. I specifically chose a property with electric car charging point as there was a scarcity in the vicinity of the area but the facility was unavailable (the owner advised that holidaycottages.com had been told but it was still being advertised). This caused much difficulty in locating appropriate charging facilities, and on reflection if I had known that these facilities were unavailable at the time of booking I probably would have elected for another property. Next time it won’t be with holidaycottages.com as I can’t trust the important details on the website.

We stayed at a lodge on the Holkham Estate. We called the helpline three times as we couldn't find the lodge, we did eventually find it after driving around for an hour. The help desk wasn't particularly helpful on all three calls. A map showing where the lodge is situated would have been really helpful. The grill in the oven was caked in old cheese from someone presumably making cheese on toast, also remnants of something else in the oven. We had to clean it before using it! There was stains on the mattress cover which were pretty gross. Although not related to the Lodge, dog poo bins are scarce so additional bins scattered around the estate would be desirable. Would we stay here again? No.

Old school house Holt Norfolk, Beautiful cottage but absolutely filthy. The whole place is awful The bathroom especially , Poo under the toilet the seat didnt sit on the pan correctly, the bath was grimy the floors disgusting , No cleaning products left for us to clean the place , The hoover didnt work hence the dirty floors . Beetles all over the floors constantly. The windows nailed shut so place was damp and cold so had to put heating on every time we were inside , which was in good working order.The blinds were water stained , The sofa disgusting , fullm of stains and sagging badly no support to it , spiders webs everywhere full of dead critters. For the cost it was disgusting we left early as we just couldnt stomach it . Have sent photographic evidence to complaints department but no response yet , would not recomend this company.

Walking up to the lodge straight away it looked dirty, there were cobwebs everywhere ( which isn't a big problem as it nature but these were old cobwebs with all dirt and dead leaves caught in them) windows were dirty, and old bird droppings over decking and door (which again not bothered as there was a bird nest above door with a family of house martins in but a broom would of been handy). Then when entered the lodge it was such a let down with how dirty it was, I spent 3 hours cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, no mater how much cleaning I did the bathroom smelt of stale urine, which I assume was old urine getting under flooring, we struggled to stay in Lodge with the hygiene issues and the smell coming from the bathroom, so used lodge just as a base, it costed us a lot of money just to be disappointed especially as when I arrived I had to clean whole kitchen and cooking equipment which was was disgusting as had old food and grease stuck to them, I had to get husband to lift microwave as there was old food and bread crumbs under it, I bought a lot of cleaning products, the microwave was full off old splattered food which I scrubbed, was so gutted as it just set the mood for the rest of stay which was not a good one, I carnt believe that the lodge had been cleaned. we found not very dog friendly as the lodge had carpet in the main living area and the hoover didn't work to keep on top of dog hairs also depending on size of your dog it can squeeze through spindles of the so called enclosed decking or jump over, so had to keep taking ours out on lead to go to loo and they couldn't stay on decking area to enjoy the lovely view of the lake and to watch the swans and their babies, so very sad we had so many issues, the WiFi password on the back of the WiFi box isn't the right password so had to contact cottage holidays via messages. Beautiful park though and friendly staff who work very hard, I don't normally complain but it was not cheap to stay at lodge and was a first holiday for my son and girlfriend, still not had any response from owner of my last response. Would be very reluctant to use company again, wish would of taken photos.

This is the third time we've rented a cottage via your website. The cottage we've stayed in this time was not suitable to rent, in contact with holidaycottages.co.uk we're just reffered to the owner of the property.

Drummond Castle estate and gardens…..£2000 a week plus £20 per dog. Lovely house and gardens. Mis-sold as no enclosed garden. No fans for use when surrounded by wasps and unable to open windows. Renters have to dispose/remove/take away all their refuse. Stung by wasp in the kitchen. Travel Chapter offered compensation for no enclosed garden……cows in field opposite. Still waiting for 25% as per lawyer. Drummond Castle owner had never stated enclosed garden….. Ruined our holiday having to put dogs on leads each time they wanted out day or night! Rain or shine!

First time using Holidaycottages. You were great, when I sent payment you updated me. Then Went very quiet. I then tried to contact you about my booking. Online chat timed out. Tried calling at least three times, phone rang out no answer! Emailed you only to receive the email when leaving for my booking My last ditch attempt, I was going to pull my booking! I contacted the housekeeper Kerry, who was so informative and helpful. She did say after you’ve taken payment you generally go quiet. I have used other companies who have been so easy to deal with. I’m concerned with your lack of Customer service. Online chat timed out, no one answered my calls, email received when leaving for my property. Can you Please answer my concerns. I’m a little hesitant to use you again. Your property was amazing and all high end. It was a lovely stay with the help of Kerry but I felt Holidaycottages fell Short big time.

We’ve been staying at 1 Devon Beach Court in Woolacombe for over 10 years, previously booking through Marsdens. This year, our booking was transferred to Holiday Cottages. While we had our usual lovely time, there were some property issues — including a broken key safe, loose shower fitting, and a broken toilet seat. As always, we followed check-out instructions carefully: left on time, property clean and tidy, beds stripped, bins emptied. A few days after our stay, our £250 deposit was returned — but the very next day, we received an unexpected email stating we were banned from booking again due to the “very poor state” the property was left in. Despite contacting the company and writing twice to their complaints department, we’ve had no response. No evidence of any wrongdoing has been provided. The lack of communication and customer service has been deeply disappointing, especially after many years of being a respectful repeat guest. We would advise future customers to be cautious when booking through Holiday Cottages or Marsdens, particularly in how issues are handled. This experience has left us feeling unfairly treated and unheard.

Very musty smell, cobwebs everywhere, dust all up the stairs treads, windows stuck fast including the fire escape in bedroom (husband forcefully managed to loosen this). Very dark, had to have lights on continuously. This was due to trees becoming too big and overgrown. All cooking equipment in cupboards dirty, had to wash before being able to use them. Outside chairs and tables were dirty and very uninviting. A visitors book would be good to give recommendations for food, beaches etc. On the plus side we slept well, a very comfortable bed. Sorry to have to be so negative, but on this occasion very disappointing.

Wrens cottage fantastic . However , we were charged a lot of money to change dates of holiday , even though it was well in advance of booking . Was given the lame excuse that they had to contact property to approve this , even though dates were clearly still available .Not happy with this at all , so probably will not book through holiday cottages again as there is plenty of choice for similar properties with other companies .

Although our Holiday was pretty good, the cost is really too high. The increases this year are more than inflation by quite a lot. The place we stayed at is also not getting full bookings, which also suggests the cost is too high. Many times I see the week is not taken but the amount requested is barely 10 % lower. You need tp understand 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing. It also would be good if there was a Loyalty scheme.....ie if I return to a cottage again at a later date, I should get a better price.
