“For a long time I had been considering laser eye surgery - I have worn glasses since the age of 11 and moved on to contact lenses aged 16. As a competitive swimmer, my poor eyesight meant that simple tasks such as finding my team mates on poolside at events or reading my time at the end of a race were a challenge. I was unable to wear contacts in the pool, and prescription goggles were not particularly fashionable! I wore contact lenses the majority of the time at college and University, therefore having problems with dry, irritated eyes, particularly in the evenings, and found it hard to focus on screens for a long time. I never thought I'd be able to afford the surgery until I was much older, once out of University with a full time job. During my 2nd year of University, I went for a free consultation at Optical Express in Reading, and found out that laser eye surgery would actually be a viable option for me. Optical Express offered 10 months of interest-free payments, enabling me to spread out the cost of the surgery during my time left as a student. I also discovered that despite the initial cost, having laser eye surgery would actually save me money in the long run - taking into account my monthly contact lens payments. My surgery was carried out at the Manchester clinic during the Summer term of university - potentially a risky decision due to my impending exams. However, this turned out not to be a problem: I had the surgery on a Monday, and by the Tuesday evening I had clear, perfect vision with no pain or irritations, and only slight bruising, which cleared in a matter of days. 10 months on, I have just paid my final instalment. My vision is perfect - my consultant informed me that I can see two lines better than 20/20 vision! I would absolutely recommend Optical Express to anyone who feels that glasses and contact lenses are impacting their life, even if it's the smallest inconvenience - laser eye surgery really is a financially viable solution. I am able to play sport with no problems, go to the cinema late at night without the issue of getting dry eyes, take a nap without the hassle of taking out my lenses - and so much more! Choosing Optical Express for my laser eye surgery was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I hope you can experience the freedom I now have from contact lenses!”

“I was nervous but found the actual operation to be "not unpleasant" which relaxed and prepared me for the second eye to be corrected. The first operation, I experienced moderate pain after the anaesthesia wore off but did not suffer any after effect with the second eye. Overall, I am very pleased with my sight. Even colours are sharper. I love being free of spectacles and feel a little more attractive without them. I would , and have, told friends and family how delighted I am and veery glad I made the decision to take this option. Lady P.A. Pembury”

“This was the second time I have had the surgery. Although the first few days after surgey were really painfull which I think you need to let more patents know about I had over a week off work to let my eyes rest and I think this made a big difference in my recovery. I found the first few days this time really hard and felt sick and just laid on the bed with my eyes closed. After a few days I felt a lot better could start to watch TV again. After a weeek I was not still not happy to drive so would get the bus and walk round town though I was tied after. Once I went back to work I did have to have lots of breaks as I work on a computer all day but after the first week back was back to normal.”

“Expecting to have similar vision to what I saw through my glasses, after having the surgery I can now see much clearer than I could have ever imagined! With higher than 20/20 vision (20/16) just looking around feels like everything is brand new! Has been a great experience and I feel I've been very well looked after.”

“Very pleased with overall experience and have found staff informative and able to answer questions to my satisfaction, as well as providing more information if required.My only mild concern is the difficulty I have with night vision but understand that it is very early days and that the halos and starbursts I experience should settle down in future months. Generally very pleased with the whole experience, and would gladly recommend to friends.”

“From the first phone call to Optical Express,everyone I have had contact with has been helpful and reassuring. I was extremly nervous prior to my first eye being done, but I was reassured by staff and meeting the surgeon,Prof Venter was more reassuring. The surgery experience was very good,I was no longer nervous once the process started and the experience was fine. I was especially glad after the first op when I could see white light through my dressing and new I was not blind! This was a great fear prior to having the first eye op! When it came to having my second eye done, after the improvement in my sight after a couple of days of having my first eye op, I couldn't wait until the week was over and I could have my second eye done.Everything has gone well so far, at my check-ups all is progressing well. I was glad when six weeks was up so I could resume normal activities, especially my yoga practice, not so much housework! All in all I am very glad I have had the surgery, and just not having to think "have I got my glasses" is brilliant! My sight is still not perfect, but, and I am realistic enough to know it will not ever be 100%, it is so much better! I would recomend the surgery to anyone who had similar problems to me.”

“the whole experience has been brilliant i was always put at ease and had all my questions anwered. the information pack given before the surgery was great and didn't really need to ask any questions on the day. After the surgery there was some discomfort but nothing to stop me doing anything i normally would. After 2 days my eyes felt back to normal and the vision was exquisite. i would reccomend optical express to any friend or family member that is thinking of changing from glasses/contacts. i still have to remind myself that i am no longer wearing contact lenses and how good the vision is. the overall experience has been life changing.”
