So expensive. And they hardly pay for anything. We will be searching for better pet insurance.

Hi Sherese, thanks for your time and feedback. We regret to hear you’ll be searching for another insurer for your pet’s insurance. Premium increases happen at your renewal or your anniversary date with us. That’s when we consider your pet to be a year older. The premium at renewal is not based on the claims you’ve submitted, but it is based on your pet’s age, breed, and the cost of veterinary care in your local zip code area. As pets age, their odds of needing medical care increase, as do the odds this care will be more expensive. Premium changes occur annually at renewal to balance these age-related health risks with rising medical care needs. You can review options to reduce your premium by logging into your account on our website at www.petsbest.com and going to the Benefits button under your pet’s name. When you receive an Accident and Illness claim Explanation of Benefits from us, if any of the processing went toward the co-pay or deductible, that means the claimed condition was coverable. If a claim is denied or ineligible for coverage the amount would be in the ineligible column, and the Explanation section would show why it was denied. Keep in mind all Accident and Illness policies have a Policyholder chosen per pet co-pay and deductible that must be met before reimbursing on eligible claims. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee specific claims outcomes, or the payment of a claim, until all information has been received and reviewed. Our Wellness Endorsements are a set schedule of benefits that are not subject to a deductible or co-pay. Each line item on the schedule is the maximum the policy will pay for that line item for your pet in a policy year. Unfortunately, your pet may use up the benefits quickly depending on what your veterinarian charges for their services. To keep the additional premium for the Wellness Endorsements reasonable for our Policyholders, they are not designed to fully cover all your wellness needs, but to assist you with the financial burden of your pet’s annual wellness care by providing some reimbursement of what you paid to your veterinarian for their services. You can find your Wellness Schedule under Documents and Forms in your account on our website. Policyholders can request to change or remove the wellness endorsement within 30 days prior to their renewal (anniversary date with us) for the effective date of their renewal, or within 30 days after their renewal for the effective date of their renewal, as long as they haven’t taken their pet to the veterinarian from their renewal date to the date they make the request. If you’d like us to go over the options to reduce your premium with you, we’d be happy to help! You can contact our Customer Care Team by calling (877) 738-7237. Our phone hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. MT and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MT. This so-called insurance is a rip-off! I have calculated that after the life of my pet, I would have paid well over $10000 to them. I have submitted 3 Vet bills to them and they always have an excuse not to pay anything. I recommend to everyone to just start a savings account and put the money in that you would be definitely losing to pet insurance and you will be way ahead. I bet your savings account would not deny your claim as these scamming cons do.

Keep in mind all Accident and Illness policies have a Policyholder chosen per pet co-pay and deductible that must be met before reimbursing on eligible claims. It is written into our newer underwriter’s Accident and Illness policy that we apply the Policyholder’s chosen Co-Insurance, minus the Policyholder’s chosen Deductible, up to the Annual Limit of the policy. What this means is, on an eligible Accident and Illness claim, we apply the Co-Insurance percentage first to all eligible line items, and then the Annual Deductible, and what’s remaining is the Reimbursement, up to the Annual Limit of the Policy. That’s because the Policyholder is responsible for the Co-Insurance percentage on the entire eligible invoice, even before meeting the Annual Deductible for the policy year. I am unable to see the provider's name or submission of claim detail that your company is considering for reimbusement. When I called your company, I was told I could not see or receive copies of or details of the submission information by the provider to insure that the entire record and details were considered. You may call me if you want to discuss the failures of your claims process. Ron Spangler. 303-667-2190

Hi Ron, thanks for your time and feedback. If a Policyholder submits a claim via our app or through their account on our website, until their claim has completed processing, they can view what they’ve submitted under the Claim Center, View claims by clicking Details to the right of the claim they are inquiring about. However, if the claim is emailed or faxed to us, the Policyholder will not be able to view their submittal on our app or website. We’ve submitted your complaint/recommendation. We’d be happy to go over your claim processing concerns further with you. However, we’d need you to contact us either by phone or by chat so we can access your policy and verify it with you on a recorded line. You pay all this money for pet insurance and you find out after your pet has an illness or sickness that the company only pays for 10-20% of the cost. My pet had 6 teeth removed and the bill was almost $1000.00 Pets Best only paid $150.00 of the entire bill after my deductible was met.

Hi Fred, thanks for your time and feedback. Under the Accident and Illness policy, the Dental Coverage Section advises of the requirements that must be met for your pet to be eligible for Periodontal Disease coverage. There, it advises that for your pet to be eligible for Periodontal Disease coverage, your pet must be free of any signs of Periodontal Disease prior to the Policy Effective Date or during any Waiting Period, and beginning at three years of age, your pet’s teeth must have been cleaned and examined under general anesthesia by a Veterinarian in the thirteen months before the date of service for the Periodontal Disease claim. Any Periodontal Disease found during the prior teeth cleaning mentioned above must have been treated before Periodontal Disease coverage becomes available for your pet. Our BestWellness endorsement is the only endorsement where we offer benefit for a pet’s Teeth Cleaning. Our Wellness Endorsements are a set schedule of benefits that are not subject to a deductible or co-pay. Each line item on the schedule is the maximum the policy will pay for that line item for your pet in a policy year. If a Policyholder subscribes to EssentialWellness or doesn’t subscribe to a wellness endorsement at all, there would be no coverage for Teeth Cleaning on their policy, as preventative care is a direct exclusion of our Accident and Illness policy. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee specific claims outcomes, or the payment of a claim, until all information has been received and reviewed. You can find your Policy Documents and Wellness Schedule under Documents and Forms in your account on our website. Anytime a Policyholder is in dispute of a claim that has been denied and wants us to review their claim further, the Policyholder can submit an Appeal Form with supporting documentation to us. Everything gets denied. They make you jump through hoops to appeal and get approval. We had 3 very obvious accidents and all were immediately denied. We finally just had one approved after fighting and appealing 5 months later. We are still fighting on the last two.

I just received my claim for my dog Charlie for services on December 27th, 2022 and I’m not happy with it. This is not the same condition he has been seen before. Nothing was reimbursed. Last time it was his ears, this time was a complete non-stop itching attack daily. The same medicine was prescribed before but for different reasons and it didn’t work. This time it’s keeping Charlie from itching all his hair off and itching his skin raw. How you all decided that this was a pre-existing condition is beyond me. How you can say its allergies without any allergy testing accomplished is irresponsible. When I signed up for this pet insurance, I thought it was a good deal for Charlie. I now can rest comfortably without the stress of wondering how I’m going to pay for all of it. Apparently not. I was totally mis-informed even after I talked to an agent. I’m appealing your nonpayment decision. I believe it’s wrong, I was expecting 90% reimbursement after my $250 deductible. Which I thought were the rules. 24 pages of fine print is totally unacceptable. I have friends who use this insurance, another reason I chose this insurance. After this appeal I’m going to cancel the insurance. My very first claim and NOTHING? What kind of company are you. At least I could have gotten a call saying my entire claim was denied and the reasons behind it. I shouldn’t have to play detective to figure out the claims. How you all described the coverage was totally mis-leading. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. I will go to the Better Business Bureau about your company if this isn’t handled professionally and will give a very negative review. I’m totally discussed with this insurance. And my second claim dated January 26,2023 didn’t even cover half. Imagine my surprise at the reimbursement amount of $180 out of $468. I really wasn’t prepared for this type of outcome. Also, I didn’t realize that reimbursement for shots, for example, what I wasn’t told over the phone is $40 dollars covered the whole year, not one shot as I understood it. For 64 dollars a month, I went for that coverage, really doesn’t pay anything except me paying you for non-service. I really thought this was going to be a good thing, not a massive headache being brought on by this. And I really don’t have time to write an appeal letter every time I file a claim. Again, thank you for looking into this matter. I look forward to hearing from you shortly. Robert Motley 978-761-7250 Rmotley1@gmail.com

I purchased an accident only policy then a wellness policy. I was under the impression illness coverage was part of the essential wellness package I purchased. I thought I had piece of mind with the coverages I purchased and the reason I wanted solid protection is bc one of my dogs doesn't make very good choices. Just like I knew it would happen popcorn ate something that made him sickly giving him gastronitus sending us all to vet hospital for his care. I submitted the claim then over 30 days later it gets decisioned with a decline as my dog eating something bad is not an accident. How so???? Also, what really made me frustrated was the fact that now popcorn has history and when he gets sick like that you all will always say it's an allergy and pre existing and eill never be covered no matter if I buy more coverage. dirty dirty dealings pets best and I will never refer my many pet owner friends to do business with you. You people are thieves!!

Policyholders can request change or remove the wellness endorsement within 30 days prior to their renewal (anniversary date with us) for the effective date of their renewal, or within 30 days after their renewal for the effective date of their renewal, as long as they haven’t taken their pet to the veterinarian from their renewal date to the date they make the request. We’d be happy to go over your claim with you. However, we’d need you to contact us either by phone or by chat so we can access your policy and verify it with you on a recorded line. You can contact our Customer Care Team by calling (877) 738-7237. Our phone hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. MT and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MT. Another available option is to chat with an agent by logging into our website at www.petsbest.com and clicking on the blue speaking icon. Our chat hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. MT and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MT. We look forward to hearing from you if we can be of assistance and hope you have a great rest of your day. – PF

I am going through a claim right now. I made sure my vet sent the “medical records” to the pets best, same day! They also sent them to me. And now pets best is saying they are waiting for them? It’s bs!

Hi Keyshoni, thanks for your time and feedback. When we receive an Accident and Illness claim we may need to establish the pet’s medical history, so it is normal for us to request all the pet’s medical records and veterinarian exam notes from all treating veterinarians for at least 12 months prior to the policy start to present. Once all the medical records have been received, we review them to determine if the claimed condition is coverable or not. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee specific claims outcomes, or the payment of a claim, until all information has been received and reviewed. Rest assured, we’re continually focused on enhancing efficiency and reducing the time it takes to process claims. Claims are processed in the order they’re received. Medical claims are processed within 42 days currently. We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this has caused and thank you for your patience. We’d be happy to go over your claims with you. MT. They refused to pay for periodontal surgery after the vet recommended it. Dog had been on ins since 3 months old and was 5 years old at time. Waste of money, better off putting money in savings acct. This ins is essentially worthless!

Hi Victoria, thanks for your time and feedback. You can find your Policy Documents under Documents and Forms in your account on our website. Anytime a Policyholder is in dispute of a claim that has been denied and wants us to review their claim further, the Policyholder can submit an Appeal Form with supporting documentation to us. Appeals are processed within 90 days currently. If you’d like us to send you an Appeal Form for your claim, you can contact our Customer Care Team by calling (877) 738-7237. Our phone hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. MT and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MT. Hi Liyi, thanks for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, any condition that shows signs or symptoms prior to the policy start or during the policy waiting periods, is not covered by the policy. The Accident and Illness policy waiting periods are 3-days for Accidents, 14-days for Illnesses, and 6 months for Cruciate Ligament events. These waiting periods start from the effective date of the policy. If the condition is not coverable, then the diagnostics and treatments are not covered for that condition. Anytime a Policyholder is in dispute of a claim that has been denied as a pre-existing condition and wants us to review their claim further, the Policyholder can submit an Appeal Form with supporting documentation to us. Appeals are processed within 90 days currently. If you’re appealing a claim, please keep an eye on your emails during the time the appeal is in processing, as our Appeals Team communicates with Policyholders via email. If you have any questions regarding your appeal, you’re welcome to reach out to us, we'd be happy to help. You can contact our Customer Care Team by calling (877) 738-7237. Hi Jackie, thanks for your time and feedback.
