“I have been with saga home insurance for the last two years, with a 3 year lock on the premium of £361.92 . In January 2024 I had a claim for a broken screen on my tv. Saga paid out £240 towards a new TV. At the time I asked the Lady dealing with the claim if my premium would be increased because of the claim and I was advised that the premium would remain at £361.92 for the third year. I have just received my renewal for the third year at £494.07. An increase of £132.15 because of a £240 claim. So if you are with Saga on a locked premium for 3 years just bear in mind, that if you have a claim Saga will increase your premium by more than 50% of your claim and tell you the premium will only stay the same if you don't claim for anything, no matter how small the claim is. Another insurance company that is out to rip you off. Makes you wonder if it's worth having insurance.”

I phoned expecting an error from Saga as the insurers fir the elderly.

Operator had been told to say that costs had increased this year and repeated this several times even when I told him that his arguement was not valid and this was not an increase but a multiplication of nearly 4.
Apparently he has dealt with many similar calls recently!!
When did Saga start taking advantage of 80 year olds?
I am contacting Financial Ombudsman in the morning as there must be older customers on automatic renewal that get caught out by this.

On one occasion I spoke to an advisor who told me it was because of multiple claims when the last claim was at least 5 years ago and was not paid out
She then asked me to hold but was cut off with no return call
This happened on 3 further occasions either cut off or asked to hold and then cut off and no one bothered to call back

The home policy with an automatic renewal almost tripled in price from c£200 to £600 with a don't worry we will sort it all out for you.
The company which claims to protect pensioners appears to do nothing of the sort.
Any elderly person who does not check emails etc will find their bank account being emptied by old reliable SAGA!!
