“Insured with SAGA for around 10 years and never ever with 'auto payment' because after about 4 years every time they increased premium on 2 cars, but by about 10% max., and each time I called and got it back down to almost last year's premium. But like others here, I just got renewals on the 2 cars: one up by 80% and the other 100%! No changes to anything- same address, no claims, no tickets etc etc. Before I called them, I went online and spent 3 hours on multiple sites and even managed to find quote from comparable insurers (i.e. not horror ones like single employee with a website) like RAC, AA etc. And, I saw 80% of the quotes in a long list were around the same low ices. So I called, and spent 10 minutes laughing hysterically at the script of defences that I am faimiliar with as I cop them every time I have called them: "prices went up", sure, say 10% as allowed- not 80 and 100%, "more claims for the industry" (yawn yawn), really guys? the UK motor industry in 2023-2024 'exploded' in claims?, and my favourite of all time, "we use a panel of 10 underwriters and pick the cheapest"- really? So. I can go online on comparison websites and even selected individual insurers where 80% of insurance quotes are LOWER than last years making them 90-120% ish lower than the renewals that SAGA tried to double? Wow...so the same underwiters have 'suddenly' whacked up their costs and yet the majority of the insurance sector can even lower my premiums? What a joke. The 'best offer' from Saga? "We can reduce your premium as a loyal customer by £20" Lol!!!!! And this ius why the legislation changes that came in to try and stop insurers gouging existing customers are an absolute farce! Search on this and you will find many money experts who outline exactly what I found- insurers use all sorts of 'technicalities' like "you bought the insurance over the phone and it was between 13:01-13:05 so sorry, our lower premiums for renewal only applied to the window of 15:01-15:02 and only on a Wednesday..." (exaggerated but you get the point). So SAGA, this is a joke. The fact that I can find dozens and dozens of insurers that can insure the cars even lower than last year's premiums make a mockery of every scripted excuse provided and are clearly gouging to a disgusting extreme. And do we really wonder why inflation keeps getting driven up? I will never ever go back to SAGA. The 'justifications' for doubling premiums are embarrassing and dont stack up against the industry. Will avoid and ensure I spread the word wherever appropriate.”
“Having been insured with Saga for 16 years and on second year of fixed price policy contacted Saga to inform them I had changed the number plate. Within 2 hours I received email confirmation of the change with a new renewal charge which was 3 times more than my current amount! Tried unsuccessfully to call so emailed Saga CS to complain about the increase for purely changing the number plate and received an email cancelling my policy! Clearly Saga are not interested in customer satisfaction any longer, just profit! Have found equitable policy elsewhere. Think twice before committing to this company, there’s plenty of competition out there”
“Rubbish !
Must be part of Post office and Horizon computer system because every time I accepted offer the price went up £30 in the end I went with TESCO and no problem and the quote price went down.”

I booked a 28 day holiday with Saga at hotel Port Denia requesting a balcony room. On arrival I was given the key card to room 536, on entering I realised it wasn't a balcony room but a room overlooking dustbins. I went down to reception and explained that I had requested a balcony room, the receptionist showed me the booking form from Titan travel and said no request was made for a balcony room. He said I could have one next day if I paid him €270 which I agreed to. The next day I went to reception and paid €270 for the room upgrade to room 624. I also mentioned to Dave the Saga on-site representative about this and he explained that it was only a request not a definite booking, I wasn't told this when I booked the holiday. 8 weeks before departure I received a email from Saga saying that some restoration work was been carried out on some of the balconies at the hotel but this would have no visual impact and assurance that we wouldn't have any disruption. On Thursday morning 29th February workmen started erecting scaffolding on the adjoining balcony and then with mechanical hammers they were removing concrete and bricks, the dust and noise were horrendous. I went to reception and asked to be given another room and was told no rooms were available. I then contacted Dave the Saga rep who was most apologetic and went to see the hotel management. He told me that they said the work would stop the next day at 12 noon and they would give me €70 back for the upset. No work would be carried out over the weekend. On the Friday the work didn't stop at noon it went on until 4pm. On Saturday night at 9pm workmen were hammering and moving scaffolding around in the room next door so I rang reception and asked them to tell them to stop it didn't so I went and knocked on the door and a workman came and I asked him to stop the noise and they did. The next day I mentioned it to Dave and Sylvia who apologised and they said it would reported to head office. Dave and Sylvia did everything possible to sort out the problem but the hotel management didn't seem to bother. Since returning home 3 weeks ago I have emailed Saga customer services 3 times about the problem and had a automated reply saying I would be contacted within 48hrs to discuss the complaint. Nobody has contacted me, they obviously have had the £3509.16 that I paid them for the holiday and are not interested.”
“Yesterday I received my policy renewal invitation. To say I was shocked to see that my premium had been raised from £374.93 to £828.07, over 120%. I have had two lengthy phone calls asking for a coherent explanation as to why. Yesterday, I was promised a call from a senior manager for today. Nothing happened. Today the call handler insisted that the time delay for a call was 72 hours, I told her this was not what I had been told yesterday. She then put me on hold again and a few minutes later just put the phone down, ending the call. I still want to know why you have seen fit to impose this sort of increase. Actually it's not an increase, it's an affront.”
“Wanted to give zero stars but wouldn't let me. For you own sanity do not go with Saga. Takes your money and even with a serious repair job like tiles missing from roof due to storm damage 21st Dec nothing been done.”
“"Won't renew car insuranc with saga. Premium almost doubled. Also got house insurance with them. Had leaking roof, water coming into bedroom. They refused to pay saying we had not had winds over 55 mph and not enough rain. I live in Wales and it had rained for 5 days and our roads and rivers were flooded. Needed an ark really. So much for helping elderly. Husband is 84 . No help from Saga. "”
“In December i fell broke my ankle same time i had no wi fi so my Sister in Lsw set up an insurance for me and added in Home Emergency For plumbing/Heating/Electrical.After receiving the documents i called them to check i was covered and was told i was coverrd for all blocked toiletz sinks ,drains the lot.I had an emergency with a blocked sink, called them to be told even though i paid thus i am not covered!!!Now i have mice as the guy i paid to come out couldnt unblock toilet now blocked and i have mice!!I am retired, classed as vulnerable and had so many problems, even car insurance with Saga..expensive and cin merchants!”
“Home insurance renewal received today.
No claims....ever.
Last year £85.90
Renewal quote £308.06
The numbers clearly explain why I've given one star, unfortunately there is no option for zero stars.
Disgusted of Bolton. Saga, there are other providers. I shall be insuring my home with one of them.”
“I have my car insurance with saga. My car was damaged and written off in July and saga gave me the option of going with Enterprise who would deal with my claim if I went to them for my courtesy car. The sweetener if I went with Enterprise was, my £250 excess would be reduced to zero. So, I took the offer. Nearly 4 months later I still have not received a penny. ALWAYS GO WITH YOUR UNDERWRITERS! I believe Saga misled me. You only find out how good your insurer is when you have to make a claim.”
“Once you pay there is no customer service to speak of. Impossible to get online to amend policy. Breakdown assistants attitude left a lot to be desired. Not impressed to date.”
“Update 27/10/2023.
I got a quote from another company fully comp for £550.00 for the year so people, shop around and Saga's new advert "WE TAKE THE PEE OUT OF OLD PEOPLE" and we don't have helping and understanding.
Update 23/10/2023.
For three days now I have tried to contact Saga as advised by Layla who left a message on "Trustpiolot" to contact them through their chat which came back everytime with a message there is no-one there. I telephoned and spoke to a sales agent today and she informed me that the most she could do was give me a £40.00 loyalty discount which still does not explane why my quote increased 120% which again is outrageous and they have the cheek to advertise "SPECIALLY FOR THE OVER 50s" I am 72 years old. !!!!!
I was 72 years old this year and do under 1000 miles a year (Doctors and Chemist). In March this year Saga increased my insurance to £529.82 for a brand new Toyota CHR. The renewal for the same car is now this coming November £1296.31 an increase of £766.49.....ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS
Date of experience: 19 October 2023”
“"Zero loyalty to customers. My premium more than doubled this year although I have never had a claim and drive less than 3000 miles a year. I wouldn't go back to Saga if they offered me free insurance. "”
Hi,
Thanks for leaving a review and we are very sorry that our prices were not competitive.
As a comparison service we have no bearing on the price of your policy. This is determined by the insurer based on the risk presented to them such as your driving experience, vehicle details, age etc.
Prices are based on real time pricing and subject to change, which means if you return at a later time to purchase the policy, the previous price is not held for you and an updated quotation will be provided.
If you would like to discuss this further with a member of our team, please feel free to email us on customerservices@gocompare.com or give us a call on 01633 654 019, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5.30pm.
Many Thanks,
Caitlin
“We have just been to Caple in Spain for a week with SAGA Never again. TUI and Jet 2 were there as well they paid less and had the best rooms and premium drinks. SAGA guests only have local drinks and not until 1 pm.Whereas the other companies wrer 10 am. We actually felt like inferior guests. I am afraid all the SAGA guests at the hotel said they would never use SAGA again!!”
“Very poor probate service following a recent bereavement. Saga were given all the requested documentation and after several months of silence, I called the for an update only to be told that they were unable to verify my HSBC probate account because it was too new. At this stage 5 other financial institutions had already paid into the account. SAGA requested a statement from the account to support it's verification so I sent a statement. Two weeks later I called again and they still hadn't been able to verify the account, so I asked for a cheque. A further week after this I still haven't received the cheque.
My first issue is that they didn't contact me when they found a problem. My second issue is there inexplicable inability to verify an account. My third issue is that I have seen no evidence of payment for at least 3 weeks after they said it was the next step.”
