“Very incompetent company who estimate bills. All they are into is their money. Luckily I'm ditching them when I move Home later this month as they are a terrible provider.
They don't care about customers. They just estimate behind their PCs when the smart meter is supposed to resolve this sort of trouble. It didnt resolve and when I spoke to a manager, he wasn't helpful, he kept me on the phone for an hour with no resolution.”
“The worst company I have ever ever dealt with, affecting my mental health. Complicated case but have had an ongoing complaint with them for months, they keep changing the person dealing with it, saying they will call at a particular time and don't, and then call when I am at work once then close the case as I 'didn't pick up', meanwhile saying I owe them ÂŁ8k and getting threatening letters even though they have admitted it is their fault initially and I don't owe this. They should be shut down. On hold to them now as we speak....”
“Worst customer service by far. All I need to do is make a payment and change the name on the property I've moved into. Been transferred around by incompetent agents and put on hold for atleast 2 hours !! to no result.
Might have to look out on options for other energy firms.”
“Completely Incompetent , no one i speak to knows what they are doing , refund of nearly ÂŁ400 to be paid after 10 working days but still waiting after 12 days, called again they said i wasnt in credit even though money had been taken out of my account this morning , person didnt know what he was doing and im now apparently having to wait another 10 working days , the number of calls ive made are ridiculous and time wasted actually runs into hours with no resolution !!!”
“Been trying to talk to some 1 about my account since 9th October still not had any 1 to talk to regards the section I’m trying to get through to …its a total mess since they got involved with ovo I guess this is why they have changed the call centres to India ….you either get lines are very busy at this time or else the computers are down if I could go with some other company I would but all energy companies are folding it’s a wonder SSE has never folded …by the other comments on here it’s a wonder they have no customers left”
“I have to deal with this awful company on my employer's behalf and it has taught me that there are some very goods staff who know what they are doing, but the majority don't. I'm told a different story each time I speak to them about a particular customer, or register them up and then I'm told after after a chaser call of them not having communication that they are not a customer. Was on the phone for 4 hours today and yet didn't get an emergency call out as I was transferred or cut off. Need to take valium for round two tomorrow before I explode over the poor customer services.”
“When I moved out of my address, I discovered the meter was faulty and I couldn't give a final reading. The estimate they gave was far too high and a supervisor at SSE told me that they would investigate it after agreeing it was on the high side. I kept getting emails saying that the bill was outstanding, and it would affect my credit rating. I contacted them again and they told me that those emails would be put on hold. This morning, I had a debt collector agency contacting me asking me for payment, including their charges on top of it.
I have spent over an hour this morning (not including previous phone calls to them) dealing with this. I contacted them again today and spoke to their phone operator who kept telling me that my account has been validated? I don’t know what this means, and she couldn’t explain it either. She then transfers me to another colleague of hers who has no idea why I am calling, prompting me to go through it all again.
I don't understand why I am being messed around like this. I am not trying to avoid paying my bill. Absolutely flabbergasted at how this is being dealt with!”
“This company offer a very bad service. I joined them in July 2021, no bill arrived by the end of August “we don’t have you on the system” was their reply, they offered me no help at all so I switched suppliers. Now they are sending me estimated final bills, I have emailed them and called them with the correct reading, this communication has been ignored by them. I strongly advice anyone not to have anything to do with this service provider.”
“Avoid at all costs. They cut your energy supply, put you in debt then take over an hour each time to answer. 3 months on issue still unresolved. I am currently on the phone waiting for them to pick up as no gas since morning it is now evening where they said it will be on.”
“Don't join an incompetent and ignorant supplier
Becoming an SSE customer in January I saw this as a good thing. With price hikes I decided to switch, this should be seamless but I have experienced quite the opposite. The gas first, I received a closing balance of ÂŁ1500 after just two months usage. After lengthy queries it was resolves and SSE admitted their mistake.
Now the electric. They have tried to charge me ÂŁ2000 because they can't enter meter readings correctly. Threats of affecting my credit rating and repeat hastle from texts and email to pay. I have submitted three queries of complaint, none have been responded to. I have called three times, waiting almost an hour each time at cost to me, and the customer service has been disgusting. Promised a call back after call two at 1500 that day, it was not forthcoming. Again after another call I was informed the account would be put on hold and a bill adjust carried out. Two weeks on and still nothing, other than the repeated threats again email and texts. Please don't use this company, if everyone switched to a cheaper and better customer service company then SSE have no business in the UK and therefore they can't continue to provide poor service. The thing is not enough will do the right thing and show these large suppliers that enough is enough. I only wish they would.”

Sse added someone else's bill into my bill. They don't provide any detailed explanation of any bills. They are dodgy and rip off company. Im a single mum and always most of the time away from the house , to my family place so there wasn't even much use of electric in the house, still They charge me ÂŁ4000 When I was away from home...”
“would love to give SSE no star as they are a total nightmare, i've never had so much trouble with an energy company, for over a year i waited for them to change my meter from a pay as you go to a smart meter and now they want me to pay a bill for over ÂŁ100 on a meter that was a pay and go, I've spent hours on hold over the last year and it costs a fortune being kept on hold for hours and then when you do get through they just transfer you to some other line and your back on hold for another hour or so, when you do get to talk to someone you cant understand a word they are saying as they don't speak good English, going to look into switching to someone else as SSE are totally incompetent”
“After approximately 11hours in total I finally got my account made, after having no electricity at all. Absolutely atrocious service. Been hung up on multiple times. Been told my account has been “sorted” also multiple times. The incompetence of this company is astounding. Not to mention after the account is “sorted” my money has been taken and no service has been provided. I suggest staying clear and looking elsewhere.”
“So having been with sse a while now they recently updated the smart meters, knowing I was going away I had plenty of credit to cover until I got home. So yesterday I received a letter saying I owed them 22 pounds. Luckily I'm not an idiot and checked it against my bank statement. So after an hour on the phone to get through and speak to someone it was removed. Just a heads up for anyone else who might have received the same letter.”
“I have been waiting on the phone for over an hour to talk to someone about their over estimated bill compared to an actual meter reading that was given to them, and still no response.
I will be looking at moving to another supplier.”
