“Was hesitant to do my own colour at home with all the mess and staining but with The Shade, they provide all the tools necessary to make colouring your hair at home a breeze. I was also very impressed with the grey coverage, it looks better than a salon cover and with the bonus of having no nasties. Will be using The Shade from now and saving Salon fees. I will only visit the Salon once every 3 months for a good hair cut.”

“Have been using the shade for about 12 months now. I have changed my colour a few times but have now found the perfect colour. I love how helpful the consultants have been. My order comes on time every five weeks and I now pay a couple of hundred dollars a year compared the thousands I was spending at the salon. Highly recommend.”

I am usually quite sensitive so extra pleased that I have no reaction to these high quality products. Hi Kory, Thanks for getting in touch and I hope you are well. So sorry to hear that you didn't get the grey coverage you were after. In terms of grey coverage, as you may know, grey hair often has a different texture, because along with the loss of pigment there are also changes to the outer cuticle layer of greys which can make them resistant to colouring. The outer cuticle layer of greys is thicker and more tightly packed and it can be more difficult for the colour to be absorbed resulting in insufficient colour coverage. Our 27 vol developer is specifically formulated to cover resistant-greys. It is stronger than our standard 20 vol developer and it will lift the cuticle on your greys, allowing the colour to be successfully deposited within the hair. If you wanted to boost grey coverage, then I would suggest that you add some heat to your roots for 2-5 minutes with your hairdryer while the colour is processing, which will help soften and lift the cuticle on your greys, which helps the colour enter to be deposited within the hair too. Pop a shower cap on your head after you have added some heat during the colouring process too, as this will help retain heat and soften and lift the cuticles of the hair which will then allow the colour pigments to enter to be permanently deposited within the hair. The above approach has been effective on even the most stubborn greys, and I am confident that it will work for you as well. I am happy to arrange a free colour kit for you to try the product again with added heat - please just let me know your preferences on the colour. I hope this helps!
